I just finished writing the longest and best song I've ever written, and HAD to share it. It's not completely polished yet, but you've gotta check it out!!! I only put a clip on myspace, the entire song is 6 1/2 minutes long!  it's very modern sounding, but melodic at the same time. The clip is over 3 minutes long, and is the last half of the song. You don't even hear any verses in the clip, it's that long!

I think it's almost like a rock opera song. Anyways, check it out if you're interested. it's called "If We Believe". I'll also be adding a brand new version of "Losing You" later today once I finish the backing vocals. I think it's Alex's best guitar work ever! Hope you enjoy these, and Happy Easter everyone.

I love all your stuff Jim, and IF WE BELIEVE is simply AMAZING!!!

Hey Bobby, thanks! I'll be spending most of today (yes, Easter I know...but this has to get done today!) working on that song. I've already changed a section of what's on myspace. I have to remix the entire song, record/re-record some strings, and Alex is reworking all of the vocals to get the pronunciation right on everything. It's gonna be a busy day, but I can't wait to get it completely polished. If I can get the new vocal tracks back from Alex today, I'll replace the version on myspace. I'll keep you posted.

IF WE BELIEVE

Postby A. M. Scott » Tue Apr 14, 2009 7:31 pm

Hello Guys,

I just want to thank you all for the great feedbacks about our songs, but most importantly, I thought I would publicly thank JIM RYKBOST for giving me the opportunity to work on his project and for bringing me back on track after years of inactivity. I think this is the most intense and productive experience I've ever had the pleasure to be involved in since I first started making music in the early 90's.

Thanks Jim and thanks All you at melodicrock.com for your support.

Great song Jim. It reminded me a bit of Try Me by UFO:

Hope the track finishes with an extended guitar solo.

Thanks for the compliments Duncan! I'd never heard that before, and it was pretty cool. I don't know why, but it reminded me of Pink Floyd towards the end. Very cool!

Well, I just posted the enitre 6 1/2 minute version of "If We Believe"! It could be cut down in length, but we really like it the way it is. You'll have to let us know what you think!

Oh my! Jim, Alex - I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes - just beautiful!
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Awesome! Thank you, I really appreciate it. I really like the newest version, and I think it's mixed a LOT better than the previous snippet. I also re-wrote the last bridge of the song, and made a few other changes between the two versions. Thanks again.

Love the chorus! Sounds great overall but it's still a work in progress isn't it? There are a few spots that still need correcting don't they?
My feedback....
The word "questions" sounds like its coming thru the nose....I'm sure just due to the accent. The word "were" sounds like "wore". "So lost in each udder" ...I know he's French and I expect some accent but in the rest of the song it's not very detectable so the mispronunciation of those few words stick out more, I guess.
The loud " NO" yell is a tiny bit disconcerting... it sounds nasal and too loud ...for quite tone of the rest of the song.... maybe it would help to build the strings up to a crescendo after that?...a little more drama, if you will, to go with it...right towards the end..bringing up the guitar a bit too.?
But anyway..just my 2 cents and what do I know...
I like the song a lot and as I said, it sounds fantastic overall...you guys are doing great and I enjoy hearing your music! :)

Love it Dude! Seriously, the only comment I have is the solo at the end, I would have something more soaring something like a Neal solo. Just my 2. Otherwise, great stuff! :D

Hey Blueskies, Thanks for all of the feedback! And yes...it's still a work in progress. I had to crack up when I read that you said he was french! He's Italian    There are a few notes here and there that are pronounced just a tad off, but that stuff is easily fixable.

I do think the guitars are a little too low also. And I agree with you also on the "NO". He'll beat me up, but I'll talk to him about it tomorrow. I mentioned it today, but we were both trying to get a lot of other things done. Will fix several of those things though. I'm very glad you liked it though, and we're very proud of it.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I have to admit that I was kinda iffy on the guitar ending the first time I heard it (as I told Alex), but after a few listens, I think it fits the song perfectly. Who knows though...maybe we'll do something more melodic in the real recording. Thanks for the feedback.

Well, we could have used them, and we actually talked about it. The WAV files are just so damn big though, that it takes forever to send them. We will definitely for the real recordings.

Great stuff guys! very good

Will listen more this weekend, cheers. For the moments I listened to "If We Believe" really good vocals going on. Reminded me of The Little River Band with Wayne Nelson on vocals, and Nelson is no slouch when it comes to singing, great stuff!.
