Craigslist killer

Postby Ehwmatt » Fri Apr 24, 2009 1:31 am

Anybody following this story? I'm always fascinated by this kinda shit, and this is shaping up to be just as crazy as some of the past monsters we've seen. Eerily resembles Ted Bundy's case. A good looking guy with seemingly everything going for him, a bright future as a doctor (Bundy was at one time a law student), a fiancee yet got his rocks off preying on vulnerable women and had a hauntingly dark side to him. I'll be shocked if there aren't more victims by the time this is all unraveled. If there aren't, then boy are we lucky they caught him at this stage of the game. Guy woulda been the next BTK or Ted Bundy for sure.

Main story: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crim ... _case.html

Follow-up: Killer kept mementos from victims: http://www.bild.de/BILD/news/bild-engli ... phies.html

Truly chilling. It's always the guy who "looks/seems like a nice guy" and "not capable of those horrible things."

Really sick stuff. I was just having a conversation with my boss about this, which led to talking about meeting people online. How these women could just respond to ads like that, oh my god... scary!! I mean you HAVE to get to KNOW people the best you can and THIS is why. I have 5 nieces, ages 6 to 16, all of who either use or are learning to use computers and internet. Thank god they all have great parents, but still, its easy to hide things. I worry about this.

His victims were advertising "escort" services on the net so be less likely to report robberies which were his main goal. He had a major gambling problem as well as a sense of entitlement.

He carried zip ties and a gun to the meetups and wasn't above physical attacks. The girl who was shot (3 times, one in the leg, one through the heart) was resisting being zip tied and trying to escape the hotel room (her hotel room).

It took her death to catch the sicko, yes there would've been many more victims, this guy is only 22 or 23.

I was a bit fascinated by this as well. Of course his girlfriend is blindly denying everything.

Craig Newmark, founder of Craiglist has had to address previous misuses of the site. What people don't get is its just a classified page.

These things would've happened regardles of CL, local papers run ads too. Responsibility is up to individuals and their friends/family.

These women engaged in risky behavior so put themselves in situations to be victimized. Alone in a hotel room with a stranger you just met off the interent? Not a good idea.

Here's an interview with CL's founder

I am kind of fascinated by this too. When these things happen by some low life, I think people can rationalize it easier because they say he was abused, he had a rough life, lack of parental teaching etc.

But when it's someone that seems to come from an ordinary life and have a relatively normal upbringing and seems to have everything going for him.....it's scary to think about.

I am watching Fox News now and they are just saying their might be another victim and they are going to report a story of a high school (or college....I can't remember for sure) friend and her "chilling story" in regards to this guy.

There could be alot more to come out about this.

Good vid about the case and whether "erotic services" should be banned on CL.

We had a case, a doctor with a beautiful wife and family was drugging female patients while examining them, and raping them. One came to as he was dropping the syringe in the wastebasket and zipping his pants, and she had her panties around her ankles when she woke up. He just looked at her and told her to get dressed and walked out of the room. Even though still drugged, she was alert enough to think something strange happened and pulled the syringe out of the wastebasket. He even charged her for the visit. She got home and told her husband she tought he knocked her out and raped her as she was in pain, and went to the police with the syringe. The syringe was loaded with heavy sedatives and a rape test proved she was raped. It came out there were many, many victims that came forward that felt something happened but were intimidated to go the police as they were completely knocked out and had no proof and were embarrassed. He didn't murder anybody, but he was an upstanding member of the community and well-respected, but, as it turns out, a freak.

John Wayne Gacy was a pillar of the community, and this was after serving time in the State Pen for Sodomizing young boys. You never know who your neighbors are, behind the smiles and how do you do's.

Go to your state's sex offender website and put in your zip code. You might be shocked to see who is staring back at you in some of those photos.

So true. Unfortunately sometimes even when you get to know someone, or at least you think you know them, and they seem like the "perfect nice guy/gal" to everyone around them, they turn out to be not so nice after all.

Like you I worry about this stuff too, especially with kids.

The women were the one's that placed the ads. They were escorts, and were having men meet them in their hotel room. Or are you talking about the women who place ads on sites like match.com?

I haven't caught all the facts on this whole story... i've gotten random bits of it... I didn't know the women were the ones placing the ads... in that case, UM... not that they deserved such a horrible fate but... DUH?

No I wasn't talking about women who place ads online... meeting online is a lot more common now, I guess, I was just saying you still have to be careful. I heard a random factoid the other day (in a sales training, of all things)... the topic was, basically, advance of technology... it said of all the people married in 2005, 1 out of 8 met online. That number has to be a lot higher now, what with sites like match and eharmony, and so on.

I know a guy who picked up a chick on MySpace a few years ago. He was all lovestruck at first, jumped REALLY fast into the relationship, and then the girl turned out to be 100% full tilt PSYCHO. DUH! It's MYSPACE.

Yeah, when I was single I signed up for a month or so for Match.com and was floored by the number of women I knew who were on there as well. I was also shocked by how fast the women wanted to meet after only exchanging a couple of emails, and maybe talking on the phone once or twice. I'm sure guys do the same thing. I think online dating has become a vehicle for skipping the preliminaries and going straight for the alter or bedroom, or whatever people are looking for.

A friend of mine met a guy online. They starting dating, living together and engaged, then married in less than one year. They are now expecting their first kid and have known each other less than 18 months. Someone was in a hurry! :P :P

DAMN!
That's entirely too fast. I guess if you're in love, you're in love. Whatever. But I've always figured if it's the person you're going to spend the rest of your days with, what's the rush?

In America "the rest of your days" is on average 8 years.

Yeah I agree. Before she started using online dating, she paid some matchmaker big bucks to set her up with 'quality guys'. I think she stopped using her after the first date when the 'quality guy' forgot his wallet and she had to pick up the $100.00 dinner tab.

I laughed.

The guy I know who did this, it was the same thing too... I could have slapped him for this just because it was so stupid... he sent her a myspace message and they went out once (p.s. he had JUST separated from his wife - she hadn't even moved her stuff out yet and he was looking for a new relationship... right away, this isn't the smartest move...). One year later, to the day, they were engaged and living together. It went bad FAST, like hyper-speed fast. Does he get out while the getting is good? Nope. Still screwing her. Go ahead and GUESS the outcome of this? Now he's tied to the psycho forever, and for the next 18 years, his life is going to be hell.

The sad part is I saw that coming from the beginning and I did say "dude, WHAT the hell are you doing? This is clearly a crazy person" but he never would have listened to me. In fact, a bunch of people saw it and a few tried to tell him.

He's learning it now, boy!

And my former sister-in-law...her older sister was the one who introduced Gacy to his last known victim. Innocently, as the young man was looking for employment. She has struggled with this ever since.

Sick indeed.

This wasn't a fascinating story in my opinion, just about some fucking sicko. Not a good idea to be advertizing services on the internet such as massages, escorts, etc. in the first place. This type of story is the reason why I have never wanted to meet anyone in person who I've bs'd with on line. My wife was selling stuff on e-bay a number of years ago and one guy wanted her to drive somewhere to do the exchange. He wouldn't take no for an answer and that's when I got involved. I just told her to tell him that she would gladly meet him down at our cities police station. That did the trick and he didn't ask again.

Yeah, she was quite a pretty lady. I'm sure this dude who killed her is going to end up like Jeffrey Dahmer in no time at all, found beaten to death with a mop handle in prison. People who get sent to prison for hurting women and children don't fair too well in jail.

I sold some furniture once on the site...the purchaser came to my place to pick it up and I didn't have to pay the local newspaper a fee for a classified.

He picked prostitutes 'cause they'd come to him, might be carrying cash, and might not call the police afterward.

As for online romance, I'd say meet them the first time in a very public place and, for heaven's sake, don't go anywhere alone with them for awhile.

The only thing that is garbage is your uninformed opinion. It's a virtual newspaper/classifieds. Just as many escorts have been killed by taking out ads in the local independent newspapers that have all the sex ads.
