How many of you have seen Journey with Arnel?

Postby Voyager » Sat Apr 25, 2009 6:51 am

I was just curious how many of you have seen Journey with Arnel yet?

I saw Journey with Steve Perry (once), Steve Augeri (three times), and Jeff Scott Soto (once), but I have yet to see Journey with Arnel Pineda. When they played in Saint Louis last year with Heart and Cheap Trick, all the good tickets were sold by the time I got around to looking for them, and the prices were simply too high for good seats. I may try to catch them this year, but I don't see any Saint Louis dates on their schedule. However, after seeing them with three different singers already, part of me is not in a big hurry to do it again.

Have you seen Journey with Arnel? If so, do you think it was better than seeing them with Steve Augeri or JSS?

Saw Journey with Perry 4 times. Great shows.
Saw them with Augeri once and he was okay, but he didn't have the power, this was in 98 I think. Still love the guy's studio stuff. Cain's brother was filling in on drums. Not a great show.
Saw them last year with Pineda. Thought he and the band were excellent. Didn't catch JSS.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

arnel with Journey

Postby Kelley » Sat Apr 25, 2009 7:02 am

I saw Journey in Arizona this past October and I did not like Arnel at all. He seems to be trying to hard and when he threw his microphone up in the air and to catch it on the way down, he dropped it and was chasing it across the stage!! It was so embarrasing!!!

I saw them in Nashville, August '08.

It was the best concert that I've been to.

Yep.
Twice in Vegas, once in Cleveland. A near miss in Dallas thanks to bad timing, but he was very entertaining at the three I caught.

Perry 5 times, no interest in seeing them with SA. Saw them w/JSS and Arnel once. Arnel put on a great show, but unless they put out new material, I wouldn't go see them again until such time.

He almost did that when I saw him him at the Greek. He recovered but it looked sloppy. Arnel either picked that up from JSS or John Farnham. Those guys have been doing it along time though. Overall, the band did a good job and AP did a great heartfelt rendition of "WYLAW".

The show doesn't quite have the the impact that I felt when I first saw them with SP (once at the Spectrum and three times at JFK). Perry never did the physical antics, like running , jumping and throwing things, he just sang and with out his eyes popping out on the the high notes like HomeBoy does. I think that all the running around takes away from the performance as AP does appear out of breath sometimes. I don't care for that part at all.

I don't plan on seeing them again until Arnel has enough new material to sing to cut the dirty dozen down to 5 or 6. I'm no longer interested in seeing the Classics unless Perry is singing them, whether it be live or on my TV off of a DVD.
The band talks about moving forward, well I'm all for that. Give me a solid album without any more remakes and countrified ballads and I'll be more than happy to shell out the dough, especially if it rocks.

3 times. Las Vegas, Scranton PA, and Cleveland. He sounded better and better at each show and I expect that trend to continue the next time.

He's getting his act polished, especially this year. I saw them in Spokane, Wa. last fall. The sound system in that arena sucked and our seats weren't very good because we did not buy them early enough. I don't blame the band. I'm gonna try it again in Sacramento next month.

Saw them in Nashville, 2008. Fantastic, better than the two Augeri shows and the Soto one. His physical performance was also impressive; he has the childlike exuberance and energy, genuine love for performing and the humility to respect his station. Given his age, too, it's impressive, since he demonstrates excellent breath control.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

True. By the time he got to Florida I could see improvement compared to many of the earlier clips on YouTube of shows. Arnel did a great job, and the few longtime Journey fans I know came away really impressed with him in concert.

I am one of the biggest SP loons out there and never got to see him live. They never came close enough when I was a teenager. I saw JSS with journey and Def Lep and it was the best concert I have been to and I have been to a ton!! Saw Arnel last year in Charlotte in 3rd row behind neal and I was loving watching Neal and Ap was dead on. Great performance!!
Come back Steve Perry!!

3 times with Arnel- Las Vegas, Dallas, and Cleveland. Thought each show was great. I personally wanted to see JSS go forward with them, huge fan of his voice, have been for a long time before he joined Journey, and absolutely loved all the shows we saw with him fronting. I won't lie, I enjoyed seeing JSS fronting the most (yeah how's that you AP "cheerleader" accusers?  ) and I think both JSS and Journey fans have missed out on some pure magic now that there will never be a JSS fronted Journey album. That pisses me off  LOL, but oh well, what can you do?

Now I just consider us as fans lucky the band is even still around, and we will go to shows with friends, have a good time together as always 8) and enjoy the live music with Arnel for however long that lasts, until some of the other member's candles cost more than their cakes.

Never saw them with Augeri, but I was not paying attention to concerts at that time and didn't even know Journey had done anything with him past "Remember Me" (which I love). Stupid me, lol. I do think he is a great singer now that I've had the chance to discover those Journey albums with him. "Kiss Me Softly" is my favorite.

Never saw them with Perry either, but I did see Perry on the FTLOSM tour in '94, and yes, it was heaven :D lol.

Would watching and listening to it on youtube count? If so, then I've seen all of the singers fronting Journey. If not, then I've not seen one.

Pretty much agree with you here. The only time I've ever seen Journey live was back in 82 when they came here on the Escape tour! Great show! Would love to have seen JSS fronted Journey, but thank gawd for the 3 or 4 different boots taken. If an Arnel fronted Journey played here, I'd go see them, but wouldn't travel to do so, those concert $$ are earmarked for possible JSS and/or EM/Mr Big shows. :) Can't knock Journey though, after all, they DID bring me two of my all-time favorite vocalists......actually in around about way, all three.......since Herbie managed EMB/Mr Big too. :D
