New Here - Have a question?

Postby portland » Sun Apr 26, 2009 5:25 am

Has anyone been over to the GQ inteview with SP lately?? There is alot to read..and someone who is spinning alot of stuff about SP and Neal..she is something to read!! As I am a newbie, does anyone have any insight? She has posted as Jan 123 and I think she has a couple of other names she is posting as...some of the things she has stated are pretty graphic and she has insisted that she is SP part-time girlfriend, not a believer just looking for opinions!

To merrypeary: Please understand that I'm not anti-Steve and I don't believe my previous post comes across that way. I love him dearly. We've been through growth and change together. If it sounds as if I'm mostly defending Neal, that's true. But that is only because Steve doesn't need my protection here. If this were a discussion wherein posters were making fun of Steve's nose, hip, nationality---whatever---then I would go to bat for him. It's circumstantial. When I first considered posting to this forum, I was advised against doing so. I was told I would be a minnow in a piranha tank, and yet I couldn't let it go. I couldn't sit by watching poster after poster beat up Neal. He's a beautiful man. OF COURSE I love Steve too, but Neal's the one the pubic seems to have the problem with, and so I feel I must defend him. For reasons I can't go into, there are certain topics I am forbidden to discuss, but if I could, you'd understand the gravity of the situation. Outside of that, I will say this: It's easy to have an entourage of admirers during the times when things are good, during the hard rocking, bright lights and boozing we all equate with rise to fame. It's the bad times that test the true measure of a friendship. I was there for Neal during both. And I will continue to be. Speaking of "boozing," that brings me to my next point. I think it's awful how some of the people on this site have attacked Neal over the issue of drinking. It's not like he WANTS to be an alcoholic. He's been sober quite a while now and he only mentioned the thing about drinking because he's proud of how far he's come. And so am I. What else can I say? I love him. It's my nurturing instinct. There's just something about holding a cold towel to someone's forehead while they vomit that locks a bond between the two of. Edgy enough for you? If you were there, you'd understand. How can I walk away from someone who's lying on a bathroom floor with tears in his eyes, begging "Please don't leave me here?"
To pinemom: I originally signed on today to address your question regarding Jon. That other post got in the way. I'm upset at the moment, but I do plan on getting back with you. I'm happy that you asked about Jon. He is worthy of his own discussion. He's an unsung hero who often finds himself as a footnote to whatever Neal and Steve topic is going on. I'd like to give him his own post and give him the credit where credit is due. But not today. I have to walk away from this.

THANK YOU GoldenGateRhythmSec and THANK YOU spfan. Steve will be happy to learn your sentiments.
Now, can we please all forget the Perryalltheway thing? IT IS FICTION. Do not entertain that person by indulging in their fantasies.
I will not, nor cannot "fill in the blanks" so to speak regarding PATW's story, because it is just that------a story.
To the person who stayed up all night reading this sorted mess then came in late with a bunch of questions: My apologies. It appears you have been duped as well. Please erase any PATW posts out of your memory.
I wish I had never logged on to this website. I wish I had never said anything to begin with. I never meant for this to happen. I never wanted any controversy. All I was trying to do was to humanize Neal and Steve a little to the fans who claim to love them, and to hopefully bring them back together as friends---not necessarily bandmates, but friends. I am so sorry I ever came here. It was obviously a mistake.

Hi and welcome to MR. I remember reading some posts about a month ago on Amazon and there was a woman claiming that SP goes to Vegas all the time and has a girlfriend who's a showgirl there. She claims her friend who works in a casino see him around town all the time. Since there was no proof, to back it up, I just ignored it. I figured if he was really running around Vegas with a showgirl, someone would have snapped a photo or taken video and posted it to the internet by now.

Epilogue:
Up until now I have centered all of my post around the emotional and brotherly side of both Neal and Steve. However, since several of you have been asking, I will address your re-occurring question that causes me to delve into their business side as well: The question of whether or not Neal and Steve will ever musically reunite. Note that Neal would love that. He's often said the door is open. I realize that for some this is very hard to hear. It has been alleged many times that Neal and Steve are equally stubborn on that issue. They are not. As for Steve's position, his response is "Never say NEVER," but please don't hold your breath. If they should someday reunite, it would be for a one-time collaboration, perhaps at something like The Grammys. As for anything more permanent, Neal and Steve have too many business-related differences to ever make that drastic leap.
The topic of ProTools is a good example. Steve favors the use of ProTools because it opens up a whole new musical arena. It allows him to charter into unexplored territories, taking his music in different directions. Neal, on the other hand, doesn't feel that's truly fair. He says that anyone can sound good using ProTools because ProTools offers the ability to distort and enhance sound to the user's specifications. He feels that if the artist is truly talented, he wouldn't need ProTools.
Neal and Steve share other business-related differences as well. For instance, Neal is open to the idea of allowing Journey's music to be used for commercial endorsements depending upon the product. Steve dislikes that idea entirely. He was also against the Escape Arcade game. To Steve, the songs he wrote with Journey are like his children. They are like beautiful paintings, each one telling its own story, each with its own personality. To Steve, commercialism lessens the value of the music. He doesn't want his photo on any fast food soft drink cups.
Then there's the whole Soprano's Finale thing. Neal and Jon were quick to approve the use of "Don't Stop Believin'" in that final episode. Steve, on the other hand, wanted to know exactly how the song was going to be used before he granted his permission. He didn't want the song to be the backdrop to a series of violent whackings. "Don't Stop Believin'" is an inspirational piece and Steve didn't want it carrying any negative connotations. Neal, on the other hand, (although he has since changed his position) thought it would have been an interesting contrast had the song been used that way. He said that everybody expects dark musical scores to resonate through scenes of mayhem and bloodshed, but nobody expects to hear something happy, and so he felt the show's producers really missed the mark on that.
As you can see, they have a conflicting business sense, and in this industry, that often means the kiss of death. Please try not to look upon that too tragically, however. They are both happy in their own right. Neal is extremely pleased with the current Journey line-up. I know that's hard for some to take. It's even hard for me at times because, like you, I want my Steve. Nevertheless, their current music is phenomenal and far exceeds what were once the expectations. I disagree with the band's decision to re-record the Journey classics, but that is only my opinion (which doesn't matter in this case.)
As for Steve, he is content in life as well. Semi-retired, he has devoted portions of his time to perform as back-up vocals for various artists. He has directed on occasion. He recently released "The Very Best Of Steve Perry" which features a hand picked selection of his personal masterpieces. He's enjoying the anonymity of working behind the scenes, while still being able to contribute musically to the whole creative process. He is an avid baseball fan. He enjoys hiking, although not as much these days. He appreciates each of his devoted fans, and he is thankful that you love him.
Take care.

I'm not pissed. I see crazy stuff written all the time re members of the band. I take it for what it is. Some mean posts, some enjoyable posts, and some delusional, crazy posts, many nonfactual posts. It goes on and on. You just have to take it with a grain of salt.

Simply put: No. Neither one is me.
Now, onto other things....
Steve's birthday is in January and so he's already had his birthday for this year. I am 43, but Steve is 16 years older than me because it is still early in the year. I will be 44 this year, the same year he turned 60. I was 18 when I met Neal and Steve. The year was 1983. They both had girlfriends at that time, but our paths would cross again and three years later, Steve was free. That's when we got together. It was 1986. I'm telling you all of this because I feel a question looming on the horizon and so I'm taking this time to answer it before it surfaces and breaks out into an onslaught of theories and accusations and a whole lot of ugly name calling directed toward me. The question has to do with CTS's and now pinemom's latest sleuth, the one about the videos. I know that in the archives of CTS's mind she remembers me mentioning "Chain Reaction" a while ago. "Chain Reaction" was filmed in 1983 and so I'm expecting Detective Stone to question the timeline there and then to drag in Sherrie and all that other "evidence" she's accumulating. Since I don't want an onslaught of theories lashed at me, I will answer this in advance. As I mentioned earlier, I met Neal and Steve when I was 18. That doesn't mean I was involved with either one of them. It was a same place-same time type situation. I was there during the filming of the video, but we were not linked romantically. As I also mentioned earlier, they both had girlfriends. Three years later, Steve was free. That's when we got together. I was 21, not 24. I referenced the 24 thing in my explanation to duped because I was using HER wording in MY rebuttal, which SHE was using from an earlier post by CTS. At no time did I say that I was 24 when I lost my virginity. Considering the mean-spirited tone of duped's message, I didn't think it was necessary for me to veer off course and launch into a detailed explanation about how I was really 21 and not 24 and that CTS had miscalculated her math in one of her previous post when she assumed I was 24. It wouldn't have changed the purpose of my explanation to duped, and so I simply let it be. Yet, since everyone here seems to be stuck on that number 24 thing I figure I'd better clarify myself. I didn't really think the age I lost my virginity needed explained, but with CTS riding me with her sleuthing, and with pinemom subsequently posting her "Send Her My Love" theory, I now feel the need to ward off whatever looming questions you are all going to lash out at me whenever one of you does the math and realizes the numbers don't add up. "Send Her My Love" was from 1983 and Steve was still with Sherrie which, of course, would have triggered a load of questions, such as "Did Steve cheat on Sherrie with Jan143 back in 1983?" And, "Where does 'Chain Reaction' fit into all of this since it, too, was filmed in '83?" And that's where the firestorm of accusations would have started. I'm simply posting this explanation as a preventive measure, and for clarity's sake. I was 21. Steve was 37. The year was 1986.
I got to admit, CTS, I'm still pretty much okay with most of your sleuthing, but OH MY GOD, do you exhaust me! Anymore and I'm going to have to hire myself a secretary to assist me with your theories. :)

As was said earlier, by Gunbot I think, she could be anyone, because a lot of that stuff is public knowledge. Anyone that close to Steve and Neal probably wouldn't be spilling that stuff on a comments section of a GQ Magazine article. But you never know.
