No. Definitely not. Assuming Journey ever gets in the HOF, I would imagine Perry will be right there, front and center. As I've said before, Perry wasn't Journey's first lead-singer, and he certainly wasn't the last, BUT, he's the only one that ever mattered. Should Journey be inducted into the RRHOF, it will be soley based on the body of work they created with Perry. (I don't know what they're going to do about all those other guys).

Somehow, I imagine it something like the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony where Perry comes sweeping in at the last moment, completely steals the show (women shrieking, flashbulbs popping, loons, spoons and octoroons clamoring for autographs), then sweeps back out of the scene, never to be heard from again - until baseball season.

Amen to that! Perry's voice was a huge contribution and is why they sold over 80 million albums. He is the one everyone still wants to know about and is the one most people want to hear when it comes to singing Journey tunes.

I wonder what people will think of him 50-75 years from now. I mean, am i wrong to say this, i know he's my fav. singer and all but i don't think anyone really truly sounds (Perry tools) like him and never will sound like him. Thats why i think it's so dam silly that every1 the last what, 15 years or so that have dogged him about losing everything he had in his voice and the fact he can't sing worth a crap anymore. They probably would be surprized even if it were true that he would still be better than most singers on his worst day than most singers on their best day. Of course, that doesn't translate into a billion record sales and him breaking any sales records but i mean, face it, were all on here and have been for years talking and contributing our beliefs and thoughts on him.

If all the fans of the original did that. That would leave about 500 fans to show at the current Journey shows!

Bottom line:

Without Steve Perry, Journey doesn't matter.

Without Journey, does Steve Perry matter? Not sure, but HH didn't come calling on THEM to make HIM famous. He came calling on HIM to make THEM famous.

Every show THEY do is a tribute to HIM. Deal with it. Ask Arnel and see what he says.

If Neal Schon wasn't in the band...maybe i think twice about if Journey really matter like you say..i love Steve Perry but i don't think he was Journey, either Arnel, but i don't call it in anyway the current line up a tribute band, they are doing new material and i enjoy it a lot!

And in his solo shows for the FTLOSM tour all the Journey songs he sings is a tribute to THEM.

One thing I do truely respect about Arnel is that he does recognize and has made reference to SP and the fact that there will only be one SP in this world. Fortunately, Arnel is above all the petty crap that goes around. He knows he is no SP and he isn't trying to be him. He only wants to help retain the sound Journey is famous for, while at the same time bringing his own unique style and voice, which is clearly embraced by the fans as you listen to their reactions when he comes on the stage. Listening to Arnel lately, it's become clear to me that he is shedding SP's shadow fast, singing in his own unique register. He does write music and has for his previous albums. We will see what he contributes to Journey shortly....if Friga will have it.

It can get asinine, agreed. But so can the myriad of Perryheads, Loons, SPoons, and other utensils when they "shit all over" Arnel.

I mean for me this is my legacy of Journey, why do I have to accept these comments?

?

You don't have to. But it's... not just your legacy nor is it all about you.

I did not say it was about me, I just feel like it should not be done, I don't comment on AP on you tube, I don't feel the need to.....

Right, but that's the thing that I'm not quite sure you're understanding. These comments aren't directed at you or your feelings for Steve Perry. Arnel fans prefer Arnel, Perry fans prefer Perry, and both are notorious for getting quite personal and quite heated.

The fact of the matter is that it takes two to perpetuate an argument, and Perry's fans are hardly guiltless. Ideally, both would stop, but that's not going to happen.

I get that - the whole loon equation - but to say that Steve Perry did not contribute to Journey is like saying that Neal can't play gutiar...ya know - I get they only see AP but who do they think co-wrote the songs he re-recorded?

They're inept. But... once again, you have the same people here who tend to forget that "Open Arms" and "Faithfully" either originated or were created solely by Jonathan Cain.

There are factions out there who will attempt to minimize certain contributions of certain members. It requires a sense of objectivity. I personally have major issues with some of Perry's personal decisions while in the band. However, he was the major reason (not the only reason) for Journey's success and a vocalist par excellence.

Don't bother arguing with the people on Youtube. It's bad enough doing it here, but no one has a shot in hell of making either side back down.

+1

The arrival of Jonathan Cain and his songwriting ability really took the sound of the band to an entirely new level and his contributions do seem to often go overlooked. I'm not sure why that is, but could someone tell me why Tito's JC appreciation threads I've read about were banned? Were they just over-the-top, because I can't imagine they were more so than the Neal or Steve Perry "Porn" threads.

There is a stark difference between Journey's success and Steve Perry's success as a solo artist.

ST was released while Journey was still incredibly popular and sold 2 million.

FTLOSM was released while SP was not in Journey and barely went Gold.

Greatest Hits + Mostly Filler was released when SP was way out of the spotlight hasn't even gone Gold.

Let's not get crazy about all of this. Journey was successful because of all the parts.

Yeah but, I don't think that Steve Perry will be willing to stand back and let AP be the only one to take the stage that night. I could be way off, but he will be looking out for his rightful place at that concert...I am glad I am not the one who has to deal with the organization of that one.....they may need Dr. Phil to make the phone calls

We all know that Journey will never get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Should they? Of course, but with the joke that place has become, I won;t mind at all that they don't.

I'm just fine with one of the best bands ever, not being enshrined beside Grandmaster Flash.

Chicago should have been inducted a long time ago! The place is a joke and its better not to be a part of the crap they induct into the hall anyways.
