I agree. One of my favorite songs by Perry was 'Oh sherry" for the tone of his voice. Another I have been listening to recently is "I Stand Alone" for the tone of his vocal work. I also think that when it comes to phrasing, the guys a master at it. Sinatra had it, Darin had it as well. There are alot of great voices out there, but phrasing properly is almost as important as voice quality. Perry has both, which is a real tough act to follow.
I don't think that Perry needs the ultra high end vocals to be popular, his ability to sing better then many today(if what folks say concerning his voice is true) coupled with his ability to 'emote' and phrase would make him a killer vocalist, even in this day and age. Add to that the mans stage presence and his past work with Journey and the 'aura' he brings to the table and man, you have something we haven't seen in a performer in a long, long time.
The question is WILL he bring it to the table. Lets hope so

I love I stand alone it is a great song and he sings the hell out of it. Hell he just needs to stop watching baseball and go do something about this lack of new material thing, they can put a widescreen in the studio and he can watch his baseball there.
