Flawless is a strong word around here...ya sure you wanna go there?

AP's first concert with Journey was flawless too, from what I understand and the studio recordings were...uh, flawless. Non of them fix it tools were used, as I'm told by certain credible members of the band. They all ate balony sammiches and tried not to get miracle whip on the mic or keys, but supposedly it went real smooth. :P

Yeah, I agree with you there Andrew. Probably the most underrated JRNY album, which is probably their best? (of course that's my opinion) which I am probably in the minority :)

Seriously, I agree with this. Now why is Arnel not singing any of those songs, except BGTYS? Deen handles most of the ROR stuff. I think Arnel could do them nicely. I'd love to hear Arnel sing I'll be alright without you, as well as Why can't this night go on forever. They're fucking up in not letting Arnel do these, unless there is something in the contract disallowing this.

Yeah, different to any other Journey album and obviously that strong Perry influence (rightly or wrongly), but I love that AOR meets soul feel of that album (and the 2 Perry solo releases).

Soto performing I'll Be Alright Without You was something else....just stunning. Because he has that naturally lower rock n soul style that Perry had in that era.

Best 3 word description ever and dead on accurate.

Arrival has a lot of soul but it has a lot of everything else as well.

ROR has a special feel to it that is very unJourney sometimes. They broke out of their mold on this album which ticks a lot of rockers off.

ROR sent a lot of Journey fans packing and they defected to bands like Def Leppard and Bon Jovi, helping Slippery When Wet and Hysteria both sell over 10 million albums. Great decision by Perry. But he only changed the direction of the band so when he resumed his solo career he would be leaving the band high and dry. But that failed because his backdoor attempt at quitting and recording a solo album failed because the label deemed Against The Wall utter shit. They should have done the same with FTLOSM.

Portland, you've got to scroll ALL the way down to the bottom, then leave some space between the previous post and YOUR post. I had to read this three times before I realized (by looking at the post above it) that you just added to what St John wrote. And for the record....I love BOTH albums.

FTLOSM is a much more mature, deeper album that I love. It's very different than anything he'd done before. If his new album sounds like this, I'll be happy with it. I know most on here want to hear a rock album (I think it'd be cool), but I just don't think he can pull off a rocker. I guess we'll see. I just hope he releases something SOON!

Interesting poll, because both of the albums shared the similar amount of success being that they have both sold 2 million copies. One is regarded as Perry's best solo effort, and the other is often referred to as Journey's album that wasnt quite up to par.

For me I really like both albums and appreciate both, but I think ROR has a better catalogue of hits. For example my favorites on ROR are: "Be Good to Youself", "Ill Be Alright Without You", "WCTNGOF", "Girl Cant Help It", and "Suzanne". My favorites of the Street Talk album include: "Oh Sherrie", "Foolish Heart", " I Believe", and "Shes mine". So my choice would have to be ROR!

I love ROR and really dont see why so many peolpe dislike it. For me I'll take ROR over ST.. but that being said, it does have some great songs on it;

She's Mine
Go Away
Captured by the moment
I Believe
Strung Out
Running Alone
It's Only Love
You Should Be Happy
...although I HATE Foolish Heart.. that guy from American Idol made the song a million times better than Perry did.

Ask Schon if he likes ROR? He can't stand it.

It didn't even have a drummer?! It was written with a drum machine for fuck's sake. I like it as good or even great pop, but that album is and was written for Perry's pipes. Only one song has a real guitar solo.

The success of Bon Jovi and Def Leppard had nothing to do with any supposed shortcomings of Journey. They were just the new generation of bands coming to prominence. Simple as that.

It had two real drummers on the record. And one of them was Steve Smith.

As for Neal whining about the record...well, he whines about a lot of things when it comes to Journey's music. And that lack of pride or passion probably explains why Journey under his leadership have been such a hack outfit for so many years now.

Agree though the album was written for Perry's voice. But given that Perry was at his peak - in the studio in any case - that was no bad thing.

It's not that ROR is bad, it's that this poll raises an unnecessary comparison. Compare ROR to Frontiers or Escape, but not Perry's best solo effort.

Hello Matt, where have you been?!?. Always enjoy your posts setting the "facts" straight.

To me, ST and ROR are similar only because they featured the vocals of SP back-to-back-- in his prime. I agree ROR was written to suit his voice of that era. There was even mention of that in a ROR promo, where Jon said, after hearing ST out on record, he immediately started writing for ROR in the same vein. What I don't agree with .. is the belief that ROR is like another SP solo record. When I listen to ST, it is SP singing solo. When I listen to ROR, I hear Jon and Neal in there, too. That make it Journey songs, in my opinion.

That's not the point, needle dick. The point is that had Notrildamus not hijacked the band that they could have had similar sales. He cost the band millions with the decision to take the "rock" out of what was a rock band. But he wanted to do that, so I guess he accomplished his mission.

Matty!!! Good to see ya popping in. Hope life's treating ya well.

And I was one of those that defected to Bon Jovi, but it had nothing to do with any perceived shortcomings of ROR. I LOVE ROR! Some of Perry's best ever vocals. Probably had more to do with nothing coming from Journey after/during that time period.

You're outta you're mind. Put the pipe down, man. He was taking the band away from doing the same shit over and over. ROR is the most sophisticated Journey album to that date. Only surpassed by TBF.

Gotta disagree here Dan. Perry did what was smart and brave; He knew the formula is only good so long and on so many guises. Who is going to buy the same songs with different words and titles over and over? Look at TBF, Arrival and Revelaions- same stuff over and over, and, declining sales. ROR out sold all of them combined. Also, take away the Pinoy factor for the latest effort(valid point), and you have a continuous decline from ROR>TBF>Arrival>Revelations.

Part of what SP was doing or trying to do was stay relevant. He knew the same ol same ol was drying up- He wanted to reinvent the band and stay in the forefront. Look at the remaining 80's super bands today; U2, E Street, Madonna...like them or hate them, they all stayed huge, survived Grunge, and still play arenas and stadiums today.

You make a good argument though, but IMO, it's more complicated than what you make it seem.
