OT: Any April Wine Fans?

Postby weatherman90 » Mon Apr 27, 2009 10:36 am

I saw April Wine and Head East perform last night, April Wine in particular put on a terrific show. It's hard to believe they've been around for 40 years but they still sounded very fresh.

Review is up on the website, and the photo gallery is at this link:

Hope you guys enjoy them!

Thanks!

Yeah, I think they definitely should have been bigger in the US.

I was having a discussion with my Dad and from the way it sounds, they were really big in North Dakota in the early 80s. Must have been because of our proximity to Canada.

Yep, we up here in the north tend to embrace Canadian music quicker/more passionately... Rush first broke here in Cleveland... The Guess Who was wildly popular in Michigan (esp. Detroit) and Cleveland to a lesser extent... just to name two more examples.

I saw them in Dallas in the early 80's. Was a really good show.

Saw them many times in the 80's, saw them here about 3 years ago - and met them all after the show, along with Carl Dixon (of Coney Hatch fame, he was playing with them at the time). Fantastic show, although a little loud for our tiny arena, and nice guys (but Myles still scares me with that eyebrow  ).

Great pics Matt!
April Wine puts on a great live show. I saw them both last year and a few months ago, which happened to be new drummer Blair MacKay's first show.

Love April Wine. Just saw them last year and they still kick major butt! Saw them and Triumph quite a few times back in the day here. Myles Goodwin reminds me a lot of Rik Emmett, VERY talented and very underrated. Thanks for sharing your pics and great review too. :D

Two of my favorites....... :D

Thanks all!

It would have been a treat to see drummer Jerry Mercer with the band and it's hard to believe that he's turning 70 tomorrow. Blair is doing a fine job of filling those big shoes, though.

 He just always looked so miserable and mean to me (wasn't like that at all when I met him), kind of like he was scowling all the time or something. That's my favorite AW song, by the way :) .

LOL, time to plan strategic visits to the hubby. Probably will look into April Wine and maybe Nazareth...........and that Lee Aaron/Prism one. Saw Lee Aaron years ago, she got into singing jazz for awhile there, but now back singing some of her rock again. She's got a great voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQufqVoTGZQ

BTW, great shot of MH in your AV. :D

Well actually hubby's coming back next week (which is a good thing :? , except then he's in for back surgery a couple weeks later). Oh well - I will be coming for TSO for sure, won't miss that one.

When we first moved here, I couldn’t believe some of the good concerts at our little arena – Dr. Hook. Trooper, Harlequin, April Wine, etc. Hell – we even had Alice Cooper here. Now they’ve changed management, there were promises of big names to come – but the biggest we’ve had since then is Emerson Drive (whoever the hell they are, some Canadian country band). We do get some treats at the summer festival though - Colin James a couple of times, and others - but not full concerts.

I've never seen Colin James live, would love to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPxdKEfynWo

Back to April Wine, have to laugh at how the kids think Britney Spears is cool getting away with the title of her new song "If You Seek Amy".  Been done before by April Wine back in the 80s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjmxUSsL-qk

And sorry to hear about hubby's surgery.
