Journey: Yesterday and Today

Postby Musiclaydee » Sun May 03, 2009 11:05 am

First time poster here and an avid Journey W/ Steve Perry fan... I came across this and found it rather interesting.

Journey: Yesterday and Today

Steve Perry joined Journey in 1977, their first album, Infinity was released in 1978 and the world heard the most angelic voice ever. More albums, more tours and even though he never tried to become the star, Journey became known as Steve Perry and Journey, or Journey with Steve Perry. Steve Perry was(still is) the Voice of Journey. Time passed, good and bad, the most beautiful love songs sung by "The Voice" was heard world wide. Jealousy reared its ugly head as Steve's solo career was just as popular as Journey, but no other member of the band was as successful as a solo artist. Journey recorded Raised On Radio, they had not lost any of their appeal, but Steve's world fell apart. He had to find meaning to his life, so he took a much needed, well deserved break. Journey dropped out of sight. Trial By Fire was released on October 22, 1996 and the world rejoiced at their comeback. The fans anxiously waited for them to tour, but fate intervened and Steve Perry was unable to go on the road. Did they wait for him? NO. Did they consider his feelings? NO. Did they honor his request not to fracture the stone that was Journey? NO. And why not? Neal; Schon was under the misguided delusion that Journey could survive without their Voice. He once said that "There was a Journey before Steve Perry and there will be a Journey without him." True, There is a band known as Journey and they have tried to carry on with different singers. Original songs with the new line-up were alright, but when the new singers tried to do the Steve Perry Classics...well that was a total disaster. So was Neal Schon right? Absolutely not. Before Steve Perry, Journey was just a small time local band on the verge of losing their recording contract because they weren't getting air play. After Steve Perry, they have had three singers, shorter tours and fewer sold out shows, with people walking out on. Today Journey is aquiring a new legion of fans. Movies are using Journey music, TV shows and commercials are using Journey music. Is it the new Journey music? No. There are now more and more new fans of Journey because of the classics sung by Steve Perry. He is THE VOICE OF JOURNEY.

Of course they want you to use it. The more propaganda the better, especially if that person, who's blog you borrowed is a bonafide Perry loon. :P

Now, tell us what you think of the current Journey lineup. Have you heard them or seen them play? What say you?

Hey now JANA! I don't want to take ANY kudos with this article. I simply copy and pasted what the true article read. I emailed the 'chick' and informed her that someone was messing with her article, and posting it on Journey message boards. She gave me permission to post her real blog entry. (hehe :P )

Quote [There are now more and more new fans of Journey because of the classics sung by Steve Perry.]

They gained some fans when they hired SA, on top of that they gained some fans when they hired JSS
But most of all, Journey gained many new fans when they hired Arnel. Then Arnel rekindled the interest and enthusiasm of Journey fans all over the world because he not only nails the classics but also puts a slight spin to the songs that ultimately makes them his own.

People are also rediscovering the beauty of Journey music….beautiful and catchy lyrics of Jon Cain and the riffs and licks of Neal Schon’s guitar that make Journey songs distinct.

Ultimately, it’s still because of “Journey the band”.

Beautiful and catchy lyrics? You have got to be kidding me? I can write that mushy shit on my work break. The stuff he writes is so simple and cheesy fluff, it's downright embarrassing. Sure, Faithfully and a few others are nice, but the following sap is the same shit inverted and reversed.

1st of all welcome. Always wear a helmet when posting. That was really a reality stretch with tons of sugary words & senarios. It is correct that Journey was a struggling band and was ordered to get a frontman c 1977-78. The band became huge in every way from the writing , record sales, radio airplay to 2 million attending a single tour. After Perry left you can put those numbers in reverse. At this point NOTHING will change that short of Perry, although Jeff did get me out to pay $$$$ to see them. Oh,I think Def Leppard had something to do with it also.
