The Orignal Escape starts tonight......

Postby eclipse » Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:51 am

If you (or anyone you know) is in the Northeast Ohio area, Escape (featuring Jason Kelty) will be performing at the Main Street Saloon in Akron tonight, along with Eclipse. While it is not a full-blown reunion (yet), bassist Paul Soos was in the Escape lineup from 1993 - 1994.

This 75 minute Journey show is a preview of the full-length show debuting in North Olmsted (Cleveland area) at Sly Fox on May 15th.

Stay tuned to melodicrock.com for future updates!

I'll see what I can do. This is one of those "bring your own PA and run it from stage" gigs, so we will see. :)

Yeah. It's a 5 hour drive for me. I've been wanting to see Escape. You guys ever play near Toledo? I'm up in the Flint area of The Peoples Rupublic of Michigan.

Give him time guys. Dealing with video is a pain in the ass. Editing, etc.... We all want to hear Escape and Paul is listening... I would ask this though.. Paul, would you see if Jason at least has some old Escape shows that he will share with us ? Lots of us are willing to make the drive to support you guys but we need to hear what we are driving 5+ hours for.

LD, I can do that.

For the rest of you - I know that you are anxious. I also work a "real job" which requires travel, have a daughter who doesn't live with me that I try to spend as much time with as possible, and am dating someone who lives 4 hours from me that I try to see often as well. If I had a grand or two to drop on hiring someone to do this crap - believe me I would in a heartbeat! :D

You've been offered help for free! I think if you want to generate any real interest in the shows or the band, you really need to get SOMETHING out there for those interested to check out! I keep hearing "it's coming", "This weekend", "Soon", etc...but nobody here has heard anything yet! I understand you're busy, but there are people right here willing to work on your stuff and help promote you...Why wouldn't you want that? It's really none of my business, but from one musician to another...if you're trying to get your name out there (as I'm sure you are, or you wouldn't be posting about the shows in here), get SOMETHING out here to draw some interest. There are a LOT of Journey supporters in here that would love to go see a good show...Like LD said...they need something to judge whether the band is worth driving 5 or 6 hours for! Just saying!

I would be more than happy to take the entire show, edit it, master it (if needed) and post the clips everywhere. Paul, if you need any help with web promotion you have my sword sir. Once people hear you guys the rest will take care of itself... If you guys can still deliver and Jason can still sing the material you guys could make a living off of it IF you wanted to. For better or worse Jason does/did sound more like Perry than anyone I have ever heard period. It is hard to fool people around here but when I posted the crappy quality vhs clips people were saying no way dude this is some bootleg for a bit.

There are plenty of good singers out there singing Journey and I have heard so many of them. Many of them dont cut it singing Perry to be blunt and it is not that they are bad singers. Jason was able to convey the emotion in the songs with his voice. Even if he didnt sound so much like Perry that would still carry a ton of weight. Add to that the fact that he not only can emote without it seeming forced or fake (rare these days and more rare during Escapes heyday during the middle of the grunge movement). He appeared to believe in what he was singing or at least made you feel that he did and that is what have people STILL talking about Escape around my parts some 12 years after the last show.

I am sorry dude but for a cover band it's fucking unheard of. To have someone come up to me that recognized me from back in the day not once but MULTIPLE times and have one of the questions be, "Dude, what ever happened to that Journey tribute that played the Tiger ?" When Escape played the Tiger it was an event and not just another cover band.

You would be shocked how many times I have been asked that since then. Mainly by other musicians or former tiger staff (I knew them all including the booking agent Perry Scrogins) but still after all this time.

There is something special there my friend. I wondered how does Jason feel about it. Does he feel pigeon holed ? He cant help but to sound like Perry but then again I havent ever heard him sing anything else.

Part of the reason that Jason joined up with us was the opportunity to be in a good all-around cover band with the opportunity to do something other than Journey. We split the lead vox three ways, whcih works really well, as well all have different sweet spots. People have raved about him singing Runaway (yes, including the sky-high part at the end). However, at the end of the day, he is still SMFP Junior. LOL

I am trading voice mails with a good friend of mine regarding professional audio demo and video shoots. He has about a dozen music projects, though, so he has to squeeze us in (see his website at www.cponline.us). He is a guy that DOES make a living doing the tribute thing (supplemented by his studio).

So can you come up and film on Friday May 15th? 8)

The 15th is out for me because of gigs. I dont have a camera but I do have editing suites and know how to use them as well. I cant film you guys but I could record you. I have a 24 track hard disk adat so I could record audio. How many sends does your board have and do you have an extra snake with enough leads to cover the channels used for your live performance ? Do you know how many channels you guys will be using for your shows ?

Did you listen to the floyd tribute ? I recorded that show on the 24 track machine that I am referring to. I am a little limited when it comes to travel because of my frugal lifestyle. I buy POS older vehicles I can fix myself so I can spend my money on computers, audio and musical gear etc. When I do come up i will be renting a car in other words because I do not trust my 86 nissan low rider pickup on a six hour drive ! A very bouncy six hours it would be as well.

I'll be there the 15th, but I doubt you want to trust me filming, especially if Dan comes up again, LOL. In that case, don't let me anywhere near any expensive A/V equip...

BTW Paul, just curious, I might be imagining this but I thought you mentioned some line-up changes a few weeks ago. Am I imagining things? Or will I be seeing a different line-up than I saw with Eclipse in December? If so, who's in/out from then?
