This is your turn to vent about folks who make your job nuts! Joe and Jane public.......people who probably either never work, or have not worked for the public.

My Gripe...........

I had a parent irrate because during the feild day festivities yesterday, her daughter did not get the size shirt she ordered. The shirt fit her O.K. but apparently not what was ordered.
Now mind you, I had 23 children to get shirts handed out to, changed and ready to go in 15 minutes time. Some paid for shirts and some did not. I put the paid forms of shirts with the shirts that were of that size. I have only had this job as this teacher for 2 1/2 weeks now. I am learning where everything is and there are umpteen forms and money and things to keep track of. Needless to say no form was found, and I was handed 23 various shirts because that was what they delivered to me. Only the children who paid got a preference on shirts. Someone ordered dumb sizes that would have been a bit small for any of the kids. The ordering was done before I started working. I cannot off the top of my head remember who paid and who did not pay.
Apparently the parent called today, crying and hysterical that her daughter did not get the shirt size she ordered. She insisted I call her.
Looking around I found a loose amount of money the amount of the shirts on top of my book shelf. I then remembered her handing me the money a few weeks ago, with no form and just saying they were for shirts. Now mind you there are more shirts to be given away on another fun day next week! I guess I was unsure where the money went, and with no envelope or form I put it on top of the shelf to ask someone about later.

Yes, my fault. But live the Kaos folks.

I have walked into a classroom where I don't know where anything is, having to keep up with several forms, and money, and grades and grading, in a room where the previous deceased teacher's personal things are all around me, dealing with children who sometimes break down and cry because they miss their teacher, I am missing the teacher too because she was a friend.

And dealing with remembering who rides what bus, and who can't sit next to who, and little Johny who is acting like a monkey on crack because mom forgot to give him his meds, and getting schedules ready for going from place to place throughout the school and keeping up with all 23 students at all the stations.

I refunded the mother's money back and sent her a letter of appology. I can understand her wanting to get what she paid for, but to call the principal crying? Furious, and irrate? I can see asking for another size of a shirt, or the money back. The principal even rolled his eyes about the call.
Cut me some slack! Even if I had not found the money, I would give her $6.50 cents back if there were no more shirts. Beats having a parent have a nuclear meltdown over a clerical error.

I just don't understand why people feel the need to use the smallest little incident like this as an excuse to go off on service workers like yourself. I always make it a point to be extra polite to any one who performs services and has to deal with people minute in and minute out every day at their job, because I know how many assholes there are.

To sorta analogize your situation, I would never ever even raise an eyebrow, much less look for a manager, if I were eating with a party of eight, being served by a server covering 10 other tables, and he/she forgot my drink or took a few extra minutes to get back to me. Life's just too short, ya know?

Ehwmatt, people like you are great to deal with.........
What bugs me the most is this little girl was also asking to go to the bathroom every 15 to 20 minutes! I asked her why she needed to go so frequently, and she told me her mom had told the deceased teacher that she was to go whenever she wants. Kids tell you tall tales a lot but to give the girl the bennifit of the doubt I asked her to find out from her mom how frequently did she feel she needed to go. I got a nasty note stating that she had already discussed this with the last teacher. (As if I could read the mind of my deceased friend   ) And she is to go as often as she wants. Problem is she goes too often and has been found playing in the bathroom. But I can't say anything about it.

bwahahaha!!!

don't ask me--I just had a throw down with the alleged twirling instructor ( not a school employee-just a local twirler who gives lessons) about why I hadn't scheduled a time for the twirling tryout.

SWINE FLU!!! they canceled my parade, my band concert, my flag clinic and sent a bunch of my students home, who can't come back for 10 days. this is coming after she marched into the classroom and starts talking while I am teaching, and tries to hand me her flyers for twirling lessons--which i would not take from her so she shakes them at me. later, I put them precariously on top on the closest surface to File 13.

yea. I opened the texas whoop ash on her today. my bad. :? no worries, dokk. I can handle her; the standard for the twirlers to make the band will be so high that NO ONE could qualify.

ANNOUNCEMENT!! twirler tryouts. 2:15 am May 35th. registration fee is $4,000. :P

sheesh ... if you gals would just remember that some people's needs are WAY more important than anyone else's (especially yours) and treat them accordingly, your lives would be much simpler ...

Ginger, that mom is going to be telling it to the probation officer and the judge ... you'll just have to wait about 10 years for the karma to even out... helicopter parents are not doing their kids any favors in the long run ... and this one sounds like a Blackhawk

Man your cheep! Flyers? What flyers? Refuse on the grounds that the twirlers might put an eye out of one of your band members........SAFETY FIRST!

Don't you love these Primadonnas...........  LOL! Ah well, I am with DrFU...........What goes around comes around..........   This child is a mess. She is in trouble with another teacher for disrupting her class to deliver a love note.........understand again this child is in third grade. She had lied to me and said mom helped her make an important note to a student and it was important that she deliver it. I questioned her to be sure it was important. Then she marches down to the fourth grade room tells that teacher she needs to speek to little Timmy. She asked her if it was really important, she asured her it was. Later little Timmy shows his teacher the note.............Dear Timmy, I love you! Do you love me? Yes or no. How I found out is the teacher for the fourth grade marched down to my room upset at the girl, (rightfully so) and tells me what the important note is about. I made her write an appology note to the teacher. I love these kids, but their parents.................LOL!

Co-workers... *grrrrr*

Let's start with my industry: hospitality.
Now, let me talk about just how many people I work with who flat out refuse to go the extra mile... not even the extra inch... for the guests. Literally 7-8 minutes ago, we (me, one co-worker and our boss) ran into an issue where something needs to be done for a guest (who is spending a lot of $ with us) and another manager (the one who actually deals with the guests on arrival...) is refusing to do what's needed.... why? Because she "doesn't have the time for that."

Um... lady, you work in hospitality - MAKE THE F*@%!NG TIME!!

AfP: I was a teacher for 8 years. Whenever I feel like I want to go back to the classroom, I will look at your post! LOL I have many similar stories. I actually had to spend about 2 hours with a mom on the phone after school one day so she could tell me all of the things I was doing wrong, and how NONE of the kids in my class were happy. Turned out that she talked to 2 kids--her daughter and her daughter's friend. The mom had zero complaints about my actual teaching abilities or what her child was learning in my class. It was all superficial BS that wasn't even accurate. The funny thing was that I had the woman's older daughter in my class 2 years earlier, and there had been nothing but praise all year. I think mom needed her meds adjusted or something!

Thanks ladies I needed that.........you have always one loony complainer in parents.

And Retail.............vent lady, I hate shopping with people, and see how they treat people who serve them. Give me a good idiot story.

Bluejeangirl, that is what I am talking about! What part of the population has their brains wired to treat everyone around them like they are beneith them! Or that they are too good to do what is needed?

Keep the stories coming please, today they are having the memorial for the teacher in my classroom........... :(

Ok, last summer this guy and his fat wife came in and wanted to return something from electronics. No receipt, and it had been open. Can't do it, the best I can do is exchange it for the exact thing. They didn't want that, they wanted to exchange it for a tshirt and box of vanilla wafers. He started getting rude and I called a manager over. Luckily she had heard what he had been saying to me and sided with me. The wife calls the 1800 number for customer service above her head and wanders off. In the meantime this guy goes OFF on me, handing me his drivers license and saying "Do you know where I"m from? I'm from Chicago, you're a piece of shit clerk in South Dakota" and on and on. He even started singing the Deliverence theme!

He tells me he's some big boxer and he's made over $200,000 a match and I'm just a low life yadda yadda. Well, I'm NEVER one to put up with shit like that, so of course, I'm mouthing back at him. I told him if he's a boxer he must have gotten it in the head a time or two to act like such an idiot. (I have a feeling he was a cage fighter-they were in town that weekend)

Did I mention this is all over a $14.99 item? Yeah.

Eventually, the manager has talked to the people that the wife has called on the 1800 number and told them how bellligerant these people were and they told us to just do it and get them the hell out of the store. The wife was satisfied but the guy just keeps going on and on and on to the point where his WIFE told him to shut up. Finally, I'd had enough. I looked him in the eye and said, "Sir I work here part time two nights a week and I don't have to put up with your shit, so fuck off" He was totally shocked that a clerk would say that to him!

Yes I said that in front of a manager and yes I still have a job. In fact, after they left, the people behind them congratulated me.

One story of a HUNDRED just like that(although thats the worse I've said to someone). I hate people.

Priceless AngieKay! LOL! Yeah he makes 200,000 a fight now, maybe he will loose all his money some day and have to be a "lowly" clerk himself. Hopefully another schmuck will come in and give him grief and he will have to "take it".

Gunby I still love teaching, and the children. The folks that act this way have no clue how to treat anybody. They lack anything remotely to grace, kindness, patience, decency, or dignity. I have known some of the kindest millionaires, and some of the most hateful social climbing middle class who think they are important.

Neither money nor fame makes you great...........but how well you treat your fellow man. Think about it, when you die who will miss you? Those whom you have treated with kindness and dignity.

I joined a group of women to honor such a lady, we each swapped stories of what we missed about this special teacher. She had left such a mark on so many lives. I cried, laughed, and remembered my friend. She left a mark that will last in every heart she touched. That 200,000 boxer may have a few fans to remember him, but in time his memory will fade. :D Because he left nothing good behind.

Even in my small town, there were at one time a lot of teachers on stress leave and most of their stress stemmed directly from really stupid parents. I really don't understand what is wrong with so many of these parents today - it probably hasn't occurred to the mother whose daughter spends the better part of the day in the washroom that she isn't learning anything. As long as you have done everything you can and her inability to pay attention has nothing to do with a learning disorder, then at least when she is in the washroom she isn't disrupting the other students and impeding their ability to learn. And when she has to repeat the third grade and her mother gets irate, you can tell her that you tried, but she was the one who insisted her daughter be allowed to play in the washroom instead of paying attention in class, so who's fault is it? I feel sorry for the little girl - her mother isn't doing her any favours.

I have a few stories, but one was when I worked in retail too, at a major bookstore. There was an older woman who had no idea what she was looking for, just that she was buying a gift for someone who was interested in archaeology. When I started on my first degree in history, I took some archaeology and anthropology courses and I was making suggestions, but we had a limited selection in store. After trying to ascertain what branch of archaeology her friend was interested in (she didn't know) and showing her a few titles she didn't like, I finally suggested after about 15 minutes of pulling books off the shelf that she talk to her friend and I could help her order a title from the in-store kiosks.

Finally, this woman who had absolutely no knowledge of the subject asked me if I read much. I told her that I read quite a bit for my schoolwork, and she had the nerve to tell me that I should read more - I might get an education!! Really, I was working on my second university degree (this one in sciences) and I wasn't educated enough for her ignorant standards! She said this as she was walking away from me near an aisle and she must have hightailed it out of there, because to hell with my job, I was going to tell her off, but I turned the corner and couldn't find her. I vented in the back receiving area for at least 15 minutes (probably longer) with some great staff members, but if I had told her off and she complained, I would not have apologized and would have been fired. She was more infuriating than the guy who came into the Travel BC booth I worked in as a travel counsellor one summer after highschool and started threatening to kill people on my phone! (That's another story). I don't like dealing with the general public either for some reason

The best thing to do to piss those kinds of people off are to laugh at them...OOOOOOH, they hate that! I've pissed off more people by smiling and telling them to have a good time and say hi for me when they tell me "I'm never shopping here again, I'm going to Walmart!"

My FAVORITE though was one time this lady was in an all fire hurry and she wasn't getting through the checkout line fast enough. I was walking past her and she let out one of those huffy sighs and said really loud, "JESUS CHRIST!" As I walked past her, I said, "I'm sorry he's not scheduled to work today, maybe check back tomorrow." She didn't find that near as funny as I did....

OMG, I'm laughing at all of your stories. I too work with the public. I work in a bank and you would think with the economy the way it is, people would know something about their money. People are to freakin' lazy to fill out their own deposit tickets, they don't know their account numbers etc. I just wanna look at them and say "bitch, I'm not your mom. Do it yourself." I swear if breathing wasn't involuntary, half of the population would be dead. I think what pisses me off the most is people don't want to show their ID. And again I just want to say "look bitch, I can already see that your freakin' ugly, just give me your ID." And why would a person come to a bank to cash a check if they didn't have any accounts there? We don't know them and if that check comes back for any reason, we are screwed. People don't get that.

Last weekend this couple that live in our area came in and we didn't know them. She looked like a prissy bitch. She had a big zip loc bag of change and wanted us to count it. We don't take loose change. Our main office has a coin counter and we told her she could take it down there. We her hubby got all bent out of shape and started telling us that we knows our CEO and he was gonna call him and tell him how disrespectfull we were of him and his wife and all this other crap. Come to find out that he owned a car dealership in the area and GM shut it down. I giggled my motherfu*king ass off. Karma.....
