Ok...I'll bite...The Club owner says no...the employee says yes...who should be believe here bro?

I don't think he was suggesting that it's true, just pointing out more info in this unfolding drama.

I can see a TV special on its way: "The 2009 Steve Perry Fake Concert Announcement: What Went Wrong?"

Splashy, you're good at tracking down people and stuff, why don't you track down this Greg Azus at the Pipeline Cafe and find out just what the hell's going on? and I'm not being scarcastic.

The employee can't get online to see that the gig is canceled probably.

LOL...exactly...Personally...I believe it WAS true...but the club jumped the gun...and promoted it without permission...and show was cancelled because of it...

Wow. It's amazing the buzz SP creates. I think anyone doubting the success of any upcoming music from him, has seriously underestimated his fan base.
It's all going to be very interesting.

SJ, you're friend was actually told by the club that this was happening? Hard to imagine a really known club putting this out without being completely sure.

Just who would they need to have permission from? SP's manager? I wonder what he manages....SP's sock and underwear drawer. There sure hasn't been any musical performances to manage. :P

I'm willing to bet a sushi dinner on the following scenario:

Perry is pretty well plugged into the Hawaii scene....rumor has it he has/had an apt on one of the islands, and it is a big vacation spot for him. Odds are he probably knows Greg Azus because Azus is a pretty influential concert promoter on the island in addition to being the owner of the Pipeline....Perry was probably hired for a one-off private show be it a corporate or private money event, and Azus mentioned in passing to someone, maybe even Perry, that he should book a one off at Pipeline since he was in the neighborhood. Someone, maybe even Perry, laughed it off and said "hey man, let's do this!" or something in jest...Before you know it, Azus gets very excited and puts a date together and even leaks something to a local paper, without ever really confirming the date w/Perry's people....By the time Cyndy's post appeared in this thread, a cell phone was ringing in Azus' pocket with a certain LA attorney chewing him a new asshole about the whole debacle.

Or maybe not, I'm just making an educated guess...

Either way, if I was Hugo I'd be on the phone with this guy right now and getting a plane ticket lined up for the date... 8)

They would likely have needed permission from the Perry camp to begin promotion.

Personally, if I was working with Perry and we were scheduling this date (or maybe a string of dates), and a leak happened, I would just let it go! Leaks and rumors often generate more buzz than an official announcement. If anything, the leak would have helped to sell more tix.

I don't know anyone who would know anything about this particular possible event. I'll only believe anything for sure when our gracious host swoops in and confirms or denies.

Andrew, here we wait so patiently! I'm sure you'll let us know when/if it's needed. Thanks for this great forum.

If you use a celebrities name to promote your business without their permission, I could see where you could get in trouble. The guy already got free publicity in the newspaper for this right? All by using Perry's name.

Yeah, something like that definitely went down. I have a hard time believing Perry would have even made a hint at doing a live show on a whim like that, but other than that it's entirely plausible.

Didn't that guy see what happened to Aerosmith? You get people booking airplane tickets and you could end up getting slammed for false advertising. I know they're two different scenarios but still..

You would have to hope that silly early promotion didn't cause a cancellation. I mean that would be bad, if it was gonna happen and now it's not. You would think that even with early release, the buzz would only help things, but who the heck knows?

I guess the good news would be that maybe at least it WAS scheduled and he's ready to sing live. Hopefully.

I bet it's all part of a momentum promotional push. Throw out a little chum to get his name in the press again. Great idea if you ask me. No way that Perry would let this leak out if he was going to perform. The man dots his "I's" and crosses his "T's" folks.

Premature ejaculation, Perry-rumor style.

If anyone bought this for a second, congrats on being an eternal optimist. And a little loony. :P

I think he's up to something 4 sure, what i don't know. Can he sing at 60 live, we don't know ans maybe never will. But can he record a CD in studio form, i bet he can and sound better than 80 percent of music today.

Do a private show at a club, film it and package it for one of the big three (Target, Best Buy or Walmart) Get paid up front for CD/DVD set. Do a few concerts and be done with it.
