From the fantastic Manila show and then five sellout shows in Hawaii and the cohesiveness and energy with the band that you could see on the Hawaii clips and now Neal blogging for the fans and sharing by video this aspect of his life when he's off the road and playing it bodes well for this whole year re concerts and the writing of the new album and his new solo album. The creative juices are flowing for Neal. Keep up the videos. The fans appreciate it, Neal, in case you're reading this.

Of course he is, this is saved in his favorites for sure.

The living room sound system could have been carrying the guitar pickups' output,
while the mic on Neal would have separately picked up the unamplified string noises.
Neal sounds great, and if putting that vid on the Tube was Lori's idea, then she
deserves massive cred.

You know what I would like to see them do every once in a while is blog during the tour. When Tears For Fears reunited and put out a new CD in 2004, Roland Orzabal actually did a blog diary during the tour, kind of a stream of consciousness type thing while on the road here and there. Curt always blogged daily about every little detail, but he wasn't the driving force of TFF anyway and I didn't really care.

But Roland was never accessible to his fans. So he did that and it was really great and quite amazing to see the openess from him, when he had never been like that before. And you saw the behind the scenes of touring and how he felt that day or what they were thinking about setlist changes and that he was listening to the fans on that. Quite a lot of humour in his blog. That would be great if Neal did something like that.

First, that solo was unbelievable. I'm hoping they seriously rock on this album; get Jon off the keyboards and back to the synths and rhythm guitar.

Second,

Have zero interest in Cain moving off keyboards/piano. That's his role in the band on stage, and the fact that he is versatile enough to play some rhythm guitar is icing. But should not be his main focus. Ever.

That's why I mentioned "synths." But with the exception of a few, I think the piano itself can ruin a rock song. Notable exceptions to this are "Wildest Dream" and "To Be Alive Again." But could you imagine if "Separate Ways" had been played with a piano rather than synths? Or "Stone In Love" had been played with a piano instead of rhythm guitar?

For the rock songs, unless the song works better with a piano, keep Jon on the synths or rhythm guitar. It just works better in most cases.

No one said it should be. Thus synths. But, like I said, using a piano can castrate, neuter, or otherwise effectively destroy a decent rock song. I refer you to the new "Faith in the Heartland."

I think the balance between piano/synths/ and RG has always been a strength of Journey. They seem to have a good ear for knowing when to bring in each for it's own purposes. Stone in Love is a good example of using both piano and RG. The RG compliments the solo, but they also kept the keys as a shadowed melody, which I always appreciated. I remember seeing Perry play the keys while JC was playing guitar for the first time, and remember thinking that he looked out of sort. Sounded great though.

I noticed that he had a new axe also: looks like a SG/LP hybrid. I wonder if they have stopped his signature line or maybe this is a new one?

I hope that's not his new one - that double cutaway look is ugly as hell on this "hybrid" body. His "old" LP sig is incredible - I'd love to play one, let alone own one.

MY wife LOL'd and asked if Neal is still living in the 70's as his surroundings seemed to indicate. I said no, babe, I think that's just the home of a guy that spends a lot of time on the road and probably doesn't care too much for having the latest and greatest in decor....just a comfy place to hang his hat when he's there. :)
