OT: RIP Wayman Tisdale

Postby conversationpc » Sat May 16, 2009 12:00 pm

It's been almost two months since I posted here but wanted to drop by pay my respects here for Wayman Tisdale. I wrote a blog entry about his battle with cancer back in December, so I was saddened to hear of his passing today.

Hope everyone here is doing well.

Never heard of him 'til now but I don't listen to jazz much either.

Where ya been? Thought we'd see you in GI Jim's "Gramm is back!" thread.

He's more well-known for playing in the NBA and he was a pretty good player, too. I'm not familiar with his music, either, but he was apparently a very good bassist.

Thanks for starting this thread, I was going to do it but got sidetracked at work. I was thinking of the similarities between him and Warren Cromartie, both professional athletes who also found a calling as jazz musicians.

Good to see coach Bobby Knight having good things to say about him...

Bobby Knight wrote:"Of any of the kids I coached, he was one of the most enthusiastic for playing basketball and toward his teammates," said Bobby Knight, who coach the 1984 Olympic team. "He was a great player on that team because he wanted the best for everybody. The phrase team spirit cannot apply to anybody more than Wayman Tisdale. He was simply one of the most enjoyable kids I have ever had the opportunity to coach."

Such a talented musician and such a sad loss to the world of music. Wayman Tisdale is in rotation on the Smooth Jazz channel on Music Choice.

I'm going to miss this guy. I am from Norman Oklahoma and still live there to this day, and our community is saddened but we're glad that he no longer has to suffer. We'll miss one of the nicest men on the face of the earth and one of the best basketball players in our states history.

Loved Tisdale. A classy guy- he was a part of that great Phoenix Suns team I loved so much in the 90's.
I also used to play as him on the old NBA JAMS game. Anyone remember that blast from the past?

RIP Wayman.

I definitely remember playing as him on my old Sega Genesis! That's how I first heard of him. Sad story. What a talented guy.

It's rare to have a person that can become a success at not one, but TWO, professions they love and still retain a degree of humility and kindness the way Wayman Tisdale has.
