That's fine, but what was Journey supposed to do, because Perry wanted nothing to do with the band? Go off in a corner and die? Then there would be nothing. Or maybe that was what some actually wanted to happen?

The truth is Journey moved on, and as a result, maybe new fans heard the songs that nobody would have been privy to, if Journey had laid down and played possum. Journey is still relevant, and Perry still gets a paycheck. A "win-win," no?

:?

Hmm...

Well, considering I love Arrival with SA and they had several songs form Revelation get airplay last year and are still getting airplay and sold seven hundred and something thousand CDs and they had a successful tour last year and the spring tour this year, yes, they are relevant still. Like they were in the '80s? Of course not. It's an older band, but they're doing pretty good I'd say.

Just wanted to say that they always have successful tours. The tour in 2006 was #15 on Billboards charts. Last years tour was #18. Touring has never been a problem even before the influx of AP fans.

No im not, i bet the ponies 9HORSES) alot and i use my own tools (Ralph's tools). It's called REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY. It means what i say negative, will bring out the positive. I want SP back, i want to hear his VOICE and his legacy continue in music. You see, iv'e waited 15 years with a positive approach and it's done nothing. Maybe SP needs this. People telling him he is washed up and he can't sing anymore. Maybe it will get him jump-started in the right direction.

Those things are all great, but relevant? Some of their songs are getting airplay, but let's face it, every time someone hears a new(er) Journey tune, they dash in here and breathlessly post an account. In other words, we're no longer accustomed to hearing Journey over the airwaves. What was the highest chart position of their last release? The question isn't whether we still like them, or not (in whatever incarnation). The question is are they still relevant.

All those "things" posted above are part of what makes them relevant. Perry is the one who's not relevant. By his own volition. See?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Jeremey said Walmart has sold three hundred copies of Revelation this year. What happened with all the hoopla surrounding Journey's appearance at the SuperBowl pre-game show? Did Walmart drop the ball by not keeping the album in stock or did Sony make a killing off of back catalog sales?

Journey is relevant but it's not neccesarily the current line up but more the over all brand name that is still noticeable.

Well Gumbot, Journey sure would be relevant+some if Steve Perry was back in the saddle. the old, midde-aged and new generation would get a birds-eye view.

All those "things" make them relevant to US. They're preaching to the already converted. I guess what I'm wondering is whether Journey is really relevant outside it's own circle of fans. My guess is that question will be answered with the release of the new CD.

As for Perry, sadly, yes, he has become well...less than current shall we say. 8)

Jubilee, You're killing me. I guess your questions are too deep whether they're relevant. They're alive and kicking. That's all I know.
A lot of the artists I listen to aren't the big hits anymore but they're still relevant to me. So Journey is relevant enough that I get to see them in concert and will get to see a DVD and a new album. Good enough for me. Oh, and relevant enough that I come on here and argue their relevancy.

Ah, I guess I shoulda figured. I find it interesting that such a controversial tour (with JSS) that didn't have the media blitz behind it outsold the tour with AP at the helm. Congrats, Jeff Scott Soto! 8) It makes me wonder now if Journey lost more fans after the SA debacle or as a result of Jeff's firing/Arnel's hiring.

I would think the JSS tour was people who had bought tickets for longtimer Steve Augeri with the band, not knowing they had to call in a replacement during the tour. What was the gross earnings I wonder for both years? Each year is different b/c some big name acts only tour every so often. Both years they had great bands they toured with which sells the tickets also. Many people who saw Journey last year did so b/c they love Heart and thought that was a good combo, not just that it was Journey playing.

My whole aim here is to show that Journey was always relevant when it comes to touring. It doesnt matter if the singer is SA, AP or JSS. People like going to their shows. The whole reason Walmart took a chance on giving them a record deal was because of their summer tour success. They're a group that people know, even if the don't know the members.

I guess that is possible, earlier in the year. I saw them a total of 4 times (3 with DL and at the Jamestown celebration - that wasn't held in Jamestown... :? ) knowing that JSS was the lead singer. When I was in the bathroom at the Pompano Beach show, there were some women there talking like they thought perhaps it was supposed to be SP singing, so anything's possible!!! I simply find it interesting that with all of the fans AP brought to shows, and the increased amount of media buzz his story brought them, that they didn't outsell the 2006 tour. I do believe that Def Leppard probably had something to do with it, as they probably drew more people than Heart & Cheap Trick. Just my thoughts. :)

Same show as last year - not exactly a promoters dream in a tough economy. I wonder how many others are not going who would usually be there. Unless Perry comes back (and we all know that is not going to happen), Pineda just doesn't excite me enough to invest the time and money. I cannot get over that cover band mentality.

Must admit i would like to see Heart again and if they toured the UK i would go, but i know what you mean regarding the cover band feeling. Arnel is a great singer and Revelations was a cool release but for me something is missing with Journey now.Still its good that a lot of people will still have the chance to see the band play live who may not have.
Dare i say it but despite all the lipping nonsense i knda wish Augeri was still in the band despite Arnel being a superior singer
