I can go along with all of this, but also add that in terms of 'mistakes' or perceived mistakes, the difference between Perry and NS and JC is that the latter have been making public decisions regarding the band for 12+ years post Perry. So they have much more to be scrutinized over versus a person that has all but retired.

I was thinking something along these lines too. I just want to take it a step further and say that it is very easy to blame SP for the problems within the band because he's the one no longer there. I mean, the band named Journey is still going on, and SP is not in it any more, so he must've been the issue, not the others. He's the ass, the control freak, the (fill in the blank)... I know he's not innocent, and he needs to own his share of the crap that went on, I just wish the others would own theirs. I mean, think about it, did anyone ever say "we might have pushed him too hard"? Neal admitted he knew he was 'toast', but did he take steps to correct it? I don't recall that happening. Of course, we know it didn't happen with SA, and we see whose lap that landed in. I'd be willing to bet if/when things sour with Arnel, that somehow he will be to blame for it all.

It's kinda like at work... have you ever noticed how easy it is to blame problems on the person that no longer works there? :?

O.K. I am a little confused on this whole loon or not a loon definition. I have no relations with soap..............

I do have an av right now with his picture in it, but my avitars change regularly. I have a username with his name in it. I do not dream about Steve and me...................I want him to be married, have family kids the whole nine yards. I think he has earned that right. I am happily married to my best friend, and would not trade my husband for Steve Perry or any other guy.

I think he is talented and has deserves some respect, and I don't like people spreading false rumors about him. Having that said, I will not go try and find his house, dig up birth certificates, marriage licenses, or any other personal information on him. That is just creepy................I will not follow him around or move to the town where he lives. Truth be told I have no clue where he lives, and I am not truely interested in finding that out. I have never, nor will I take pictures of his house. I have no clue who was in the photo with him on that ride, and I feel it is not truely my buisness who he runs around with. So I won't speculate.

He is one of my favorite singers of all time, but I listen to alot of music, and I have over 300 CD's from over 250 plus artists.

So what kind of loon does that make me? :D

In my time here on the board, I don't perceive the definition of a 'loon' as what you describe, Yak. I'm a self-professed loon, but I'm certainly not any of those things. I put SP up on a pedestal because of the way he moves me with his voice. When I watch him sing, there's something about him that transcends other performers. It's used a lot here, but the word 'emote' is the best way I can describe what I mean. He does it like no other. It's not just his voice, we hear his soul in some of the songs.

Is he fallible? Sure, we all are. Did he screw up a lot with regard to the band? Perhaps. But there is no other performing artist in history that moves me the way he does. I oooh and awww over him in lots of his pictures, but that's just silly girl stuff (and we know it drives the guys here crazy). No one will ever come close to touching me with a voice the way SP does, and that's why I consider myself a loon. Just a somewhat sensible one.

We loons have to stick together...............I still have all my Journey Force and SPIN stuff. I also collect photos, and I don't care who doesn't like it. Now if that makes me a loon I know I am not alone, and I am in good company with quite a few others who do the same. As I said I have no desire to invade the mans life. But it would be nice to say hi, and thank him for the great tunes.

So for those who are as old as I am and remember the show Alice. If you don't like it.............you can KISS MAH GRITS!   And my SPIN membership card as well.............. :P :P :P :P

That makes you a closet loon. Make today your coming out day. It's a very liberating thing. But don't wait too long to come out of the closet like this Perry Loon did:

That lets me out then.I love his music and know he is a great person. But that is as far as it goes.I would love to meet him but know that will never happen.Non of us are perfect and that goes for Mr Perry as well.

That person needs help big time

They came in plural...as in persons. Meaning not just one, but there were a few who participated. The OTTs are likely the reason the name "loon" was coined.

Steve Perry's voice helped get me through all nighters in college.
I was a member of Journey Force or whatever Fan Asylum called it in 83.
Even had the calendar & christmas card posted on my dorm wall in Hendrix College.
I still have one newsletter.

I graduated & life eventually took over most of my time & I forgot Journey from 86 to 95 when the TBF came out.
I didn't even know about ROR & FTLOSM so I did miss alot.
In 95 my friend told me Journey was coming out with an album & it spiked my interest again.
I caught up on the missed albums.
I even sent some poems to SPIN at the San Fransisco PO Box in mid 95.

WYLAW got airplay & I was again mesmorized by the "voice"
I remember just about to leave a Italian Rest on bleecker st on xmas eve 95 & WYLAW came on the radio.
I just stood there & drank in every last second on that song. I remember it just made me feel at home...like he was singing it just to me.
That's the magic of Steve Perry's voice...he is able to make everyone experience a song just like it was written just for them.

Now I deeply admire him for the music he has made & respect his right to life his life out of the moonlight.

I wish him nothing but happiness.

:P

I think loon comes from lunar...the moon & the affect of it's gravitational force on behavior...lunacy...loon...
OMG...getting a copy of his Mom's death certificate is really nasty. I spoke to a few strangers after the HWOF & one of them said they had a copy of his birth certificate & I thought that was strange!

OMG: just had 2 big tremors
one a jult
earthquake

hope that was it
was scary enough to set my bird in flight
I got chills up my spine....

Those things are ok
but I just think what if they get really bad.

Heart beating a bit here...
See guess we shouldn't think about Steve...

If I were you I'd watch out for Shadow. What she and a friend of hers did a few years back was weirder than getting someone's birth or death certificate IMO.

I think we need a definitive definition of "Perry Loon", because there is a significant difference between someone who loves Steve Perry's voice and a psycho-obsessed stalker who has issues with soap! And quite frankly, the person who went after a copy of his mother's death certificate needs to be committed. There is a good probability that people like that have played a more significant part in his decision not to sing in public than we realize. I can't imagine having to deal with that kind of invasive behaviour and people who actually believe they have the right to access every bit of your life because you are famous.

I may be a Loon as far as loving SP's voice and music, but I don't think I'll be looking at the bar of soap in my shower quite the same way for awhile :? Ari, I need some Brain Bleach!

Thanks for not being so cryptic.
So are you Debbie Borden? I think I know who you are & we had no differences in a chat that warranted us being threatened with bodily harm.
It was logged as they keep a copy of chat...
This happened maybe 5 years ago?
I remember that incident as it was very perplexing & scary.
I don't know what you thought was being said but both I had nothing against you other than you were someone who seemed to be very mad at us.

That was so long ago.
we all have our not so good days
I have since let it go
maybe you should too.

Well then I guess I am out too, afterall I was shocked and saddened about the crap I read on the GQ blog that was written by I guess you would call them loons, I don't want to be put in the same classification...I am a fan of the music.....the stuff you describe makes me want to vomit at best.

So I take it back, I am not a loon just a very big fan...and I too would take a bullet for alot of my old friends as well. I think they would for me too.

Hell yeah, I'm a loon. The man rocks! But I too know that he is a human and not perfect. Thats his private side. I don't know him privately. (But I'm willing to! lol) But his public side is perfect. He is everything I want in a front man. The voice is untouchable, the tight jeans that looks just as good in the front as they did in the back, (he had a great ass, and he could still have a great ass, I don't know. But when I met him 3 years ago he had that suit on that you couldn't tell. I wanted to give his ass a little squeeze, but I thought that would be disrespectful so I let the idea go) the hair: don't even get me started on the hair....the expressions on his face when he sings. ITs all there in that perfect package.

Is he difficult to work with? Maybe, but what do I care, I don't wanna work with him. Is he full of himself? Maybe, but again, not my problem. He was very sweet and humble when I met him. He thanked us for coming a few times. He seemed very appreciative of us being there.

So flying 1800 miles by myself to meet up and stay with people that I had only met online (except for 2 people and I had met them the year before that I had drove 300 miles to meet and stay with) to see the Journey Star make me a loon? Hell yeah, and a crazy one at that.

With that said, I'm also very aware of personal boundries. I would never stalk him or anything like that. His personal life is his personal business. I don't know where he lives, where he hangs out or anything like that, and I don't wanna know. Even if I did know, its not gonna do me much good cause I live in Ohio, the land of nothing. lol

Even if I did know, its not gonna do me much good cause I live in Ohio, the land of nothing. lol

We can all be loons without knowing everything about him.The ones that want to know that are the scary ones.

Exactly. I want to know everything that he is willing to let us know. Everyone , regardless of who they are need a private life and I respect that. When we met him at the Journey Star, he came to us, we didn't hunt him down or anything like that. One minute he wasn't there and we were all just taking pix of ourselves with the star and the next minute..there he was, big as life. I respected him before, but knowing that he took time out of his Saturday to come and meet us, gave me a whole different respect for him. He didn't have to do that. We had no idea he was even in town. It was just great. Its a day that I will never forget.
