The one time I wanted the Celtics to win

Postby Journey/Survivor » Mon May 18, 2009 1:43 pm

For the first time ever, I wanted the Celtics to win. But they had to blow it.

I looked forward to the Cavs walking all over the Celtics in the next round of the playoffs, and yes, the Cavs would have stomped the crap out of the Celtics.

I think the Cavs are in for a run of finals/championships similar to the Jordan-led Bulls.

I hope so, but we here in Cleveland long learned not to speak of such expectations with any kind of confidence . But I will say the Cavs are clearly the best team, regular season record against the Lakers notwithstanding. If we lose, we will have beaten ourselves. Team wise (perhaps not talent wise), they are far and away the best team.

I'm glad Boston got taken out. Serves them fuckers right. Even the word makes me want to puke. B-O-S-T-O-N. Cleveland will probably sweep their way to an easy Championship this year (as weird as that may sound.) That team is MAD GOOD and I don't see them losing not even 1 game in any series. Lebron James is a Beast amongst children in that league. Too bad he can't go a league higher up than the NBA, he's THAT GOOD.

Here's a question to ponder. Which will happen first? A Cleveland championship or a new release from Steve Perry? If you think about it, they are very similar. Cleveland teases us every now and then that we might finally win one, but we never do. Much like the many rumors that always float around about a new CD, but then just never amount to anything. Sad thing is that as a lifelong Cleveland fan and a Steve Perry fan......I don't know which one I want more

I wanted Boston to win because I liked the Cavs chances better against the Celtics. Something about the Magic series scares me. For one, the match up of Howard vs. Ilgauskas is just frightening. I love Z and all.....but I believe at this point he is hurting our team. He is too slow and his defense is terrible. The only saving grace was his shooting and that is not up to par lately. I still think the Cavs will win but it's gonna be much harder than their first 2 series.

Celtics had no shot against Cavs, hell - no one will have a chance against them...BUT, having KG and Powe out for the playoffs is the reason why Magic has a shot to get SPANKED by Cleveland. If KG and Powe are healthy - Celtics sweep Bulls and Magic. Get real people. KG is THAT good defensively.

A better point would be: Lebron has guys(teams) defeated before they even take the court. Talent aside, psychologically, Orlando is already defeated. And the only other player in MY life that had that ability is MJ....Sure he had talent, just like Lebron. But if the opposition just treated him like another opponent - they'd have half a chance....but they succumb to all the shock and awe that follows these guys - then they fail.

I think you guys are way overestimating the Cavs. I think Orlando is going to be a tough match up for them.

And don't even get me started on the damn Lakers!!!

I sure hope I am wrong.

I'll say (with perennial Cleveland sports fan trepidation) that neither of those teams is anywhere near as good as us. Maybe the Lakers were at one point this season when we were having various injury problems w/ Z, Big Ben, and crucially, Delonte, but not any more. Frankly, I'll be shocked if the Lakers make it past the red hot Nuggets. The Magic are an explosive team, no doubt, but Van Gundy does them no favors and their shooters are prone to huge lapses in crunch time as the Celtics series demonstrably showed. If the Cavs don't go all the way this year, they've got no one to blame but themselves. They will literally have to beat themselves with mistakes and choking.

In 07, the Spurs were just way better than us (let's face it, that was probably one of the worst NBA finalists in recent history with the likes of Drew Gooden, Donyell Marshall, Larry Hughes, and "No D, No J" amon ones supporting LBJ). Last year, they got edged by an overall slightly better (but massively overrated) Celtics team thanks to Pierce's memorable performance in game 7. This year, there's just no matching the chemistry, coaching prowess, fresh legs thanks to short series, and the superstar on a mission that the Cavs have goin for them. Come on fuckers, bring it home for once. There's people here who joined AARP before I was born still waiting to see a championship! I just can't see any team left in the field being able to take 4 from the Cavs when they have home court advantage. They are just too solid.
