holy soap on a rope! chickenfoot had me rockin' out like i was 16 again! my face hurts from smiling so much. :D i haven't seen the fillmore packed with that much joy in a long time.

i expected to see a few more girls in the crowd. the boy:girl ratio was about 9:1, like at a jeff beck show. i liked the fact there were no lines for the women's restroom.

Even if it is Sammy Hagar, if I don't know the songs he's playing - I wouldn't pay to see it. I wasn't that impressed with the cuts on their new album at all. Some of them sounded like they just recorded a jam session and slapped it on the album.

Whenever a band has a new album, they usually only play two or three songs from it on tour because people usually don't know them yet. If these guys aren't going to play stuff from Van Halen or Sammy Hagar, then Sammy could have just stuck with his old guitarist Vic. I mean c'mon... no Sammy Hagar and no Van Halen songs on the tour? That is lame!!

apparently, most fans at the shows so far didn't find it lame at all. i personally loved hearing all the new songs last night. i remember HSAS played mostly new music at their 3 shows in 1984. i loved that experience too.

Any one that advocates bands like Journey Styx etc etc. changing up their set list frequently, herein lies the problem they face with most fans/concertgoers. Although I do have to agree with you that the cuts I heard didn't immediately wow me. I will still probably pick up the album, it seems like the kinda thing that would grow on me. And if they came here live, I definitely wouldn't pass up the chance to see Satch and Sammy live in any capacity.

I would love to hear Sammy and Satch... but how many people would go see Journey if all they played were the new songs off the Revelation album?

Also, when is the last time a 70's or 80's band recorded a big hit album? It's just not happening anymore. Those artists have to rely on the fanbase that loves their old music in order to sell concert tickets. I doubt that the new Chickenfoot album will even sell a million copies... possibly much less than that. I realize Sammy doesn't need the money from a big tour, but I wouldn't go see him again unless he sang some songs that I know - even though he is my favorite live act because he knows how to bring the party.

I thought the whole idea of getting a "superstar guitarist" in the band was to be able to reproduce the Van Halen and Sammy Hagar songs better than Sammy's guitarist Vic (or Eddie when he's drunk) could. I just don't get it. Plus the name is very unmarketable - my wife thought it was a joke when she heard it on the radio. I don't see where Sammy is going with this at all. I think it will hurt his popularity as a killer live artist. There is no possible way this act will fill big venues with their current setlist.

Good points. I always thought Chickenfoot was just the codename until they came out with the real one. I guess it stuck.

BTW, I hope everyone will come out to see my band Raventoe when we debut next month.

I take it the name Chickenfoot was meant with little tongue in cheek humor...and maybe to convey that they are not taking this venture all too serious...just a group of guys getting together and doing what they love to do...and then see where it goes...if the chicken flies, it flies..if it doesn't, it doesn't....they may already be thinking it won't fly real far...but just hoping it will land on it's feet. It is a name that sparks curiousity too, though..one may think..."Well thats funny...who is it and what are they about? "

Glad you had a great time, C! :) My brother said they totally kicked ass, said the music was real tight and they were 4 guys definitely having a good time! Ratio was about the same at Vancouver show too, he said he was talking to people that came from all over BC and Alberta for the show. He was front and center in front of Sammy and thinks he got some pretty good video. Oh and he got a pick from Satriani.

while i agree that chickenfoot is an odd name to me, in the current markey of limp bisquick, and kings of leo etc..
chickenfoot fits, i believe these guys are going after a new audience, while still trying to retain some of the old,
as for playing only new music, there dont want to be a nostalgia act with no past.
