It's a Simple American Idol Choice

Postby madsplash » Wed May 20, 2009 11:18 am

It's simple. Do you prefer Steve Perry/Freddie Mercury (Adam), or do you prefer John Mayer/Edwin McCain (Kris)?

The last song they sang showed that Kris isn't in Adam's league, vocally. He was cracking and flat and couldn't hit the notes. The song was too big for him.

As the judges have always said, "It's a singing contest". If it really is, it's a joke that Kris is even on the same stage as Adam.

But, what will the youth of America decide? Who knows?

Doesn't really matter what name they call tomorrow night, Adam's got it made. :)

It's simple for me. I like Kris' style much better.

(I thought Adam sounded terrible on that last song as well)

OK. Choice is choice. Just know that trained vocalists would disagree with you.

And just judging by your username, do you prefer Steve Augeri to Steve Perry? It's cool of you do, just hard to comprehend. Kinda like preferring Kris to Adam. Hmm..... Oh well.

Putting Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury in the same category as Adam is an insult. No one can touch Steve Perry and absolutely NO ONE can touch Freddie Mercry musically or otherwise. I am hoping it will be Kris.....Adam is a shrill singer (no soul in his voice) and that gets stale after the second song. :)

Nope......my name does not suggest that I prefer SA over SP. Just says that I love SA.

You assume too much. Perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to judge.

And I don't really think you can speak for all trained vocalists. And sometimes a star is more than just a voice. It's a total package.

DUDE...What, do you have a weekly meeting with some "vocally trained" people to discuss this show or what?  Kris's voice was cracking on that last song, because they wrote the damn song for Adam! It's not rocket science! They have been building Adam up as the second coming for WEEKS, they let Kate Perry prance around on stage with a fucking "Adam" cape on (which is the biggest bullshit I've ever seen on this show!), AND had him on the cover of People magazine! What do you expect? They wrote that last song to match his vocal range, and the hell with Kris! If I were another contestant, I'd probably be talking to lawyers about that whole freaking cape thing...that's utter bullshit! Now go back to your trained vocalists!

Well, I guess it all comes down to personal preference. Some prefer Kris's rather low-key, acoustic, emotive style, some prefer Adam's edgier, old-school rocker style. This time around there are two very different contestants to choose from. I must say, I'm not much of a rocker, but I have really enjoyed each of Adam's performances - screeching, guyliner, protruding tongue, and all. Kris is obviously a talented singer and musician, but Adam, in addition to being a very good singer, IMHO was a much better showman. He brought excitement to the show every week. If I were inclined to vote, it would definitely be for Adam.

A definite "Thumbs Up" post for sure! I still think this show might be fixed. I mean, come on, do you really think they would leave it up to the public to decide? They're in this to make MONEY, and they hold the keys. Whoever wins will probably have a contract that they will need to hire lawyers to get out of. I have read the Idol contract requirements, and they are brutal.

Put AI aside. It is a TV show. Adam will be the big star as writers will flock to bring him their songs. Any covers he does will be exceptional!

Amen brother. This whole show is rigged. Now personally, I could care less for either of them. Even so I still feel bad for Mr. John Mayer wannabe. This whole thing has been stolen. If anything it should have been a contest btwn Danny and Allison.

You can be so condescending and smug, Splashy. Augeri was with Journey for ten years. He has many devoted fans who love him. So what if she did prefer Augeri to Perry? Many people develop an attachment to a singer through their experiences in concert-going and emotion from hearing them sing over a long period of time.

Secondly, I love Adam and think he is a star, but he will never be in the same category of Perry and Mercury b/c as much as I loved him, I have to admit the shrill sound and thinner high vocals at times can be grating. And he wasn't great on that last song. That's why Randy said something and Simon declined to comment on his last song performance but focused instead on the entire season. Why? B/c Simon didn't like the performance and didn't want to end on a bad note.

This post is hands down, the most ludicrous post I have EVER seen here, apart from I think the other famous and controversial one. I seriously, seriously often feel sorry for Andrew here at times, all the rubbish he has to put up with, take it on the chin, and just move on. My god man, what the hell?

Words just cannot describe, they just can't. I am sure your a nice guy, but do you and this message board mix well? ;)

Dial Idol is actually calling for Kris to win. I am not sure how they work this out.

Personally, even though Adam brought a spark to the show - he is far too theatrical for me. When he opens his mouth to hold a note and starts wiggling that tongue - to me ( and this is not being disrespectful) he needs to be a contestant on that RuPaul show.

Is it rigged sure - Even Seacrest has admitted to knowing the outcome at 7 a.m in the morning. So if he knows alot of others know....this wasn't suppose to be this way. The whole Katy Perry thing...very Hollywood and very tacky and they allowed her to do it.

Kris has stood his ground and hasn't changed who he is ....much like Daughtry.
When in doubt, DUCK!

I was looking at Dial Idol this morning and they are saying it's too close to call. Although they said from what they could tell, Kris was head 1.1% all night. I think they have about a 97% record at being correct in their predications.

I agree with you about the theatrical thing. I think Adam has a fantastic voice (althought I too at times think he sounds too screechy) but I think he is much more suited for Broadway.

I don't think it's rigged. If that's the case, Daughtry would have made them WAY more money and he came in 4th place. Same with Jennifer Hudson. I do think the show pushes who they would like to win (Aka: Adam) but America ultimately decides....and many times doesn't agree with the judges.

That whole Katy Perry cape thing was ridiculous!!! That should have never happened!!

I totally agree with these statements. The whole thing with KP capes really aggravated me and I couldn't believe that was allowed... it will serve them right if that back fires and actually works against Adam.
I like both singers however neither one really moves me... it will be an interesting night weds.

Not sure about it being rigged, but from all the youtube clips Adam was a professional singer before American Idol.

What are you talking about? I expressed an opinion and can get most any trained singer to agree with me. It's very simple and not a big deal. Why would this post be a problem for anyone? If you don't agree, that's fine, but why the overdramatic BS?

Others were also professional, but the key is that they aren't currently signed to a contract with anyone else, because Idol's contract makes you sign over your life to them.

Kris was much better than Adam last night.

Kris has been my fave for weeks now.

And I am a HUGE Perry fan

It doesn't matter who wins - they will both get a recording contract. The question is, who will have better songs written for them to sing?

My opinion is that Kris will be a bigger hit than Adam regardless. Adam will be another Rueben, Clay, or that gray haired guy.

Man, I sound just like a teenage girl jumping into this discussion

Really??? I just don't see it that way at all. Kris reminds me of that boring-ass guy that won last year. Adam is one of a kind, and if they market him the right way that guys gonna be huge!
Kris can definitely find an audience, but to me Adam is one in a million, and has something NONE of the other winners have had....STAGE PRESENCE!!!! IMO, the dude has the whole package.
I AM worried, however, that a large segment of the nation won't vote for him because he's so obviously gay. Sad ...
