Trial By Fire

I listened to TBF at least three times today That album gets better every time I listen to it. I really like the song Trial By Fire. I dont see any reason why Steves voice would sound any different today. Im ready for some new music from him I dont care if its just one song. Lets have it!!

TBF is a spectacular album. So many layers on that thing. SP's range wasn't as wide, but EVERYTHING else was as good or better.

I love it too and do not see one problem with the voice.....so I as well am ready for the new stuff.

I love the song, "Trial By Fire." I always played it to get the kids settled down at night. It's so beautiful and soothing.

TBF is definetly underrated. Love the songs WYLAW, MOL, TBF, and IHSBYH.

Nice album and I really enjoy it, but no cigar. Can't compare it to earlier work. Having said that, they never put out a bad album together.

Best album. Superior writing and superior musicianship; Perry was no longer able to maintain his iron grip and it shows (and improves).

It was nice hearing Smith again and I think Neal played some good stuff there. There ARE some excellent songs on it, don't get me wrong, but some of the songs weren't good AND they left "I Can See It In Your Eyes Off" and put on Just the Rain, TBF, and that stupidass reggae song. Remove those 3 and add ICSIIYE and I'd like it much more. The production was decent accept the way the vox were recorded.

TBF might be the best example of Neal at his best: Playing crafty melodic leads that you can sing that perfectly fit the song. I really like TBF including the title track. Sure it's not the turn the radio up and roll the windows down Escape Journey sound, but it's still a good effort to me. I don't have any problem with how Perry's voice sounds either from him or the way it was recorded either, though I know some do.

I think somebody already said it....it was Steve Perry's Raised On Radio. His name was all over it; after all he was the producer, so he apparently did what he wanted to. And it showed. It could have been a Steve Perry solo album.

Message of Love is actually my favorite Journey song of all time, go figure.

That being said, the rest of the album has its bright spots and its not quite so bright spots, but hey, Perry is on the record and if thats the last recording to officially go out with Journey in that part of his legacy, it wasn't exactly a bad release was it?!

TBF is one of my top 3 favorite albums. His voice is very soulfull on this one. Its very sexy.

Yep. The tension, creatively and functionally was not there.
Hints of it on MOL and One More but that's it.
Even ROR had that tension, the Journey sound and it came back starting w/ Remember Me. But I find TBF to be FAR more the "perry solo album" than ROR.

I love it too.

But definite favorite is Easy To Fall. That one (and probably WYLAW) are IMO a couple of their best ballads.

They were probably just trying to have a bit of fun like "Her Majesty" on Abbey Road, but I just thought it was dumb. Sounded like Perry's "Summer of Love" which I can't stand either. Dang, I'm negative man today!
