Bullshit! Neal, Jon and Ross are doing original stuff when they perform most of those songs. Why do they have to ditch the music they were a huge part of making part of peoples' lives because one selfish, lying, mental-case member decided to leave?

I, too, get so tired of those comments. Older bands would love to play only their new music, but the fans dictate they also will always want to hear the songs they grew up with. One of my favorite bands struggles with that, but that's the way it is. The older music is Jon and Neal's music too, and they had a huge part in creating it. They have every right to play it and the majority of the concert-goers want the music from their heyday, except a better change up in setlist would be nice and playing deeper cuts. They are playing Revelation songs too, so Arnel is doing new Journey music also.

They are trying to slowly move on but you cannot abandon the classics no matter who the frontman is because that's what made you famous in the first place.

Arnel has been with the band for just a little over a year and like it or not they have accomplished a lot for such a short time; platinum album, sold out concerts and radio play.

That "living is the shadow" crap doesn't bother me because my Journey is Arnel but I am not loon enough not to recognize what Perry had done for the band.

What bother's people I think is that Arnel has the chops to do the job and they resent the fact that the band is moving on without Perry at the helm.

also, let me also remind you that it was Perry who turned his back so stop blaming my Neal.

Hey more power to them....GB just said that they need to concentrate on new material and I agree. IMO the re-records were like taking a step backward...if AP is that wonderful with Journey than they should be able to stand on original songs not songs made famous by someone else. IMO it's like Neal saying F***k you, he can sing them as well as SP and we are moving on by trying to erase the memories of when SP was in the band.

But hey I am one person.....and this is my opinion and I know that people will disagree with me and they have every right too. I have not been posting here for as long as many of you have and I do not pretend that my opinion is more/less important that anyone elses.

The one thing I can say is by posting here I have listened to more of Journey's music than before and I do like some of the songs on Arrival....I think that SA has a good voice and was not a SP clone. That being said after listening to all of the singers on You Tube, for me on the old material SP is just untouchable.

So yes I am a little bit baised and I love Neal's gutiar...the two of them together are unforgettable...and there is plenty of blame to go around for everyone in the band.

My point is that I have never said that you should not like the Journey of today...I just prefer the Journey of yesterday.

Hate that track.

And I think Still She Cries is one of their best songs.

Still She Cries is a sexy ass song where Cain is just immense.

Not a fan of CB or CTTL and IIJTR but apart from that it's just an amazing album. I even love the raggae number... the name escapes me at the moment.

Portland was responding to Gunbot talking about the next album and the expectation that it be all original songs. Journey is always going to play classics from their catalogue in concert, as they should, but as many have said they want to hear more new material too and I think Arnel deserves to have original songs to perform.

No one could ever replace Steve Perry, but I understand the band wanting to move on and the fans will always want to hear the old favourites in concert. I'm glad they have a singer who can do a great job performing them - it isn't the same though. I just hope there are no more rerecords, because that would be ridiculous.

TBF: If the songs were different, writen in tight rock oriented tracks, that CD would have been talked about to this day. Sound, production, eng., was awesome, just not their thought concerning their idea on this project.

Hence my smiley. True, he was was the icing on the Journey cake, but without them he was the Steve Perry Street Talk/FTLOSM solo artist, which could never come close to his Journey albums.

The group-thing label is a togetherness type thing with certain guys belonging together not for one CD or 1 year, usually as long as it can do it. Solo for any singer (who ever it is) is what it is, it's excitment but to a whole lot lesser degree. Solo, your own single process and your solo project. Sure Journey with SP will have legacy status for ever, they were a group, searching for riches and stardom in the day. If SP would have been with any other band, say SP's first bands name (i think Alien Project) with his UNREAL, i will REPEAT this UNREAL talent IN rock, R & B, E.T.C., they might have been a big name which im sure they would have.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know how big their success would have been or longevity. With Journey it was the songwriting that came about with that nucleus of creative talent (Perry, Cain, Neal, Rolie) that brought album after album after album of great music with Steve's vocals to showcase it.

I Can See It In Your Eyes is a Reject? Why because you did not like how SP sounded? I contend it's a gem; it's a very nice rocking song. And I want to reiterate, Arnel will rock and nail that song.

It has nothing to do with Steve Perry. The song didn't make the original cut for TBF. That's why it was a reject. It was only added in 2006 as a bonus for people who repurchased the album again to get the clearer audio.
If reject is to strong a word, then consider it a throw away track instead.

If you're talking live though, then of course I don't care what Arnel sings with the group, although What it takes to win and Sunshower still need some stage time, dont they?

Edit: Just saw the Sac setlist. With the exception of the Rev songs, looks like the same setlist they've been playing the last few years so no surprise additions from TBF or ROR.

Who they once were is very much a part of who they are now. Why feel like they're in their own shadow? No one is on top forever, but that's no reason to make like what they do now has no importance.

Regardless of personal reasons they are out there for us because of us. Whether they appreciate us still showing up isn't my place to speculate. But they're there and it matters to this fan.
