Stanley is a showman...not a killer singer. Eric Martin has a much stronger and more soulful vocal.

lol...the same old terms ("soulful" and "emote") for singers that can't even sell out the local taverns. Paul Stanley has a fucking army of fans and Eric Martin has....you and Deb. How come, just like with Soto, no one else hears this "soul" and "emoting?" Why can't these great "soulful emoters" even fill up a bar? *I* know why...because the two of you drag out these intangible terms to compensate for the fact that no one else is interested in these guys domestically. I'm not saying they're not talented, but you guys waaaaay overestimate their abilities, and their inability to fill up even a tiny venue is pretty much proof of that. Success, as far as hits and the ability to draw a crowd, is not the sole indicator of talent, but it does have something to do with it.

So the fact that the likes of Jimi Jamison, Rik Emmett, Lou Gramm (just to name a few of your faves, 2 of which have played little casinos here recently) aren't selling out arena's anymore makes them any less talented? Domestically, it's our loss. Mr Big is starting a sold-out tour in June. A lot of these 80s and 90s rockers are selling VERY well overseas, ya know...........to people who still love to rock! Dan, if you are basing your music choices on numbers and superstar status, then I feel for ya, cuz you are missing out on some stellar music there my friend.

Those singers all have hits and back catalogs to play. Eric Martin has To Be With You and Soto has ??? And I'm not gonna apologize because I happen to like singers that sold very well. That just tells me that a lot of people heard the same greatness that I did! Conversely, no one seems to hear what *you* hear (with the exception of To Be With You). Enjoy your music, Deb, but understand that no one is interested in the music you like because they simply don't hear what you do. "Soul" and "emoting" can only be a worthwhile argument if there is some sort of success behind it. These guys are in the business to sell albums and/or sing to crowds (of worthwhile size).

So by your criteria, that makes Mr Big better than Journey cuz they've had a number 1 hit (in many countries) and Journey hasn't? EM/JSS have back catalogues too. You're logic kills me sometimes. Hanna Montana sells very well in the US. Most popular doesn't always mean better.

To clarify, you're not criticising their talent, right? Popularity is not indicative of talent; it's indicative of greatness in that the public clearly holds some artists in higher regard than others.

I'd agree, Soto and the like are not nearly as "great" or influential or, well, important relative to people like Perry, Gramm, and so forth. But that doesn't mean they lack talent or that they are lesser than those who are more popular than them.

I expected something better than the two wrongs make a right mentality. Excusing the [hilarious] comeback because Tito made a joke about Soto? It wasn't even a dig at Tito, which is something I could understand even more.

I would just point out that if you're going to crack down on such comments, you should crack down on them everywhere, and not excuse them when one of your favorite singers is burned.

How's it a "dig?" We hear over and over at how "big" Soto is in Europe and other places, and how he is "underrated." Is it truly out of the question that maybe one person's poll could put him in the top FIFTY? Or are you all but admitting that he's really not as good as some of you purport him to be? For Tito to be an idiot to ask such a question wouldn't you also have to be an idiot to think he's one of the top 50 vocalists of all-time, and I think there are a handful of people here that do indeed think he is.
