Welp, my story about the flight attendant was subsequently repudiated by one the scientists who reported it; anyway, here's a part of an article about the origin of HIV and the first cases of AIDS:

"Much was made in the early years of the epidemic of a so-called 'Patient Zero' who was the basis of a complex "transmission scenario" compiled by Dr. William Darrow and colleagues at the Centre for Disease Control in the US. This epidemiological study showed how 'Patient O' (mistakenly identified in the press as 'Patient Zero') had given HIV to multiple partners, who then in turn transmitted it to others and rapidly spread the virus to locations all over the world. A journalist, Randy Shilts, subsequently wrote a book based on Darrow's findings, which named Patient Zero as a gay Canadian flight attendant called Gaetan Dugas. For several years, Dugas was vilified as a 'mass spreader' of HIV and the original source of the HIV epidemic among gay men. However, four years after the publication of Shilts' article, Dr. Darrow repudiated his study, admitting its methods were flawed and that Shilts' had misrepresented its conclusions.

While Gaetan Dugas was a real person who did eventually die of AIDS, the Patient Zero story was not much more than myth and scaremongering. HIV in the US was to a large degree initially spread by gay men, but this occurred on a huge scale over many years, probably a long time before Dugas even began to travel."

Shilts wrote a critically acclaimed book about AIDS called "And the Band Played On." Evidently though he misrepresented Dr. Darrow's conclusions.

Anyway, this particular article says that there are four known early instances of HIV infection: a man in 1959 (the Congo); a woman in 1960 (the Congo); an American teenager who died in St. Louis in 1969; and a Norwegian sailor who died around 1976.

This article is pretty interesting; here's the link: http://www.avert.org/origins.htm

Slightly off topic. Both Allen and Lambert will be performing on NBC The Today Show this morning.

They showed Adam rehearsing. He's going to sing Mad World. 8)

I walked in the room on the end of the interview with him. I think he said he had no plans to sing with Queen and wanted to concentrate on his own career solo, but not that he wouldn't enjoy singing with them. I think he was referring to like a guest performancel, not full-time.

Saw the performances. What a star Adam is. Amazing. He didn't move an inch during the performance and commanded the stage (you could have heard a pin drop) with his Mad World version.

Cool, guest performance with Queen would be great, but ya not full time. And agreed, Adam just has that spark, I think he'll do very well.

There are 10,500,000 google sites/articles for Adam. Many are repetative. He said that he wants to put out his own eclectic album 1st. He is under a 2yr contract to AI/Fox for this. He also says he would love to sing Queen and the album at the same time. Good luck on that Adam. I think his future is with Queen and writing with Brian . I loved how semi graciously he handled an attack by Clay Aiken. Clay was probably still enraged by AI blocking him from any Adam Lambert meeting. Clay supposedly wanted to do a duets album. Adam is also wanting to sing with Madonna.

I don't think Jeff would last either. If he couldn't hit the Journey high notes, how can he do it for Queen? Adam has him beat in that area. No diss on JSS... he's defintely got the passion for the job. But Freddie had a higher vocal register than JSS does. I think Adam is the man (or 'queen') for the job.

Even with Jeff they don't really need to hit those high notes. Mostly fans want to hear the rockers.

The more I get away from hearing Lambert, the less I like him. More of a screecher than a singer imo.

No question! I like Adam too, but I could see Jeff pouring his heart and soul into it more.

I definitely like Jeff better than Paul Rodgers. Though, my favorite would be George. But he's a successful solo artist and at most would only do one tour for them. Jeff would come on and commit to them and give them the energy and showmanship they need for Queen music.

Was this Adam Lambert kid the one who was on The Morning Show or something like that last Wednesday or Thursday? I caught the portion of the show where he was singing "Mad World". Weird, I heard that song before somewhere and was even able to sing along to it during his performance, but couldn't remember who did that tune. It bothered me so much that I got on youtube to find out what it was. Found out it was Tears for Fears and then it came to me, I used to listen to that album in Japan, last time was around 87'. Fuck that was weird that I could remember it word for word and sing the melody precisely when I was hearing it on that morning show, but completely forgot about it before that morning.

Yes, it was. I love that song. Adam based it on Gary Jules' cover of Mad World where Gary's version was much slower, which became a big hit. Tears for Fears did it to a fast synth pop beat, which I loved the faster original version of the song, the contrast of the upbeat fast synthesizer music to the dark lyrics regarding their painful childhood, but also love Adam's amazing soulful rendition, not Gary Jules' as much.
