I wish they'd drop down to 0 day a week so some other responsible company would pick it up and turn it around to something better.
They have the WORSE tracking system,,, slower than both UPS and FedEx, with higher rates. I say Fuck em and let them have 7 days off

But how do you really feel, B?![]()
I'm still waiting for my replacement debit card. The bank mailed it on 5/15. 13 days later and I'm still waiting. That is a little unreasonable. I'm getting notices left and right from places with which I have automatic withdrawls (car ins., health club, etc).
I heard this same story not long ago, except then they said they were cutting Saturday, which makes more sense.

Are you serious? Slow tracking makes you want to nix the USPS?!?!

1) Most businesses that aren't retail aren't open on weekends. Monday - Friday are the important mail days.
2) personal mail and bills are largely handled by internet, email, and automatic withdrawl anyway, so nixing weekend mail altogether (since there isn't mail on Sunday anyway) is hardly going to make a difference on the customer end.
3) because I said so.
Why Tuesday? What's the logic there?

Tuesday is the slowest(lightest) day of the week, traditionally.
As far as Sundays, just because your local P.O. isn't open, and the is no delivery doesn't mean there isn't mail to process....distribution plants and clerks, and truck drivers work on Sundays...
Either day: Tuesday or Saturday means that come Monday, during a non-holiday - there will be 3X as much mail to deliver is the SAME AMOUNT of time. And on a holiday week(where monday is off) - assuming Tuesday is the day the USPS drops - Come Wednesday there will be 4X as much to deliver is the SAME AMOUNT of time....

Then could they not just save themselves the headache and the expense of the overtime OR the extra carriers regular time they will end up paying by having to deliver 4x the amount by just leaving it the way it is?

You aren't grasping the concept....They want to drop a day so the carriers will have to do, in essense, 2 or 3 days work in ONE day.

Meanwhile some of us have roads in desperate need of fixing, to the point where driving on them is a hazard to your vehicle and there's not much way of avoiding the damage at all. And well, no sign of them being fixed at all.

Yeah, newsflash for ya....the USPS receives absolutely ZERO tax dollars. All revenue comes from the selling of USPS services. Thanksmuch.

I wish those were our streets, but you see that can't be Chicago. The surrounding asphalt is far too smooth.

StocktontoMalone wrote:Personally, I don't think it'll be Tuesdays that are dropped....more like saturdays. And if this does happen I'll be let go. Not enough seniority. It is just bad timing with the economy. Even old-timers who are of retirement age aren't retiring. The P.O. isn't offering a big enough incentive. And these senior carriers are holding onto jobs that younger carriers could have(and not be let go). We have 22 routes in my office. Each 5 route 'string' has the need for a T6(floater position), who basically works every day off that each of his 5 route's regular carriers have. If they go down to a 5-day work week, there will be no need for any T6 position. So that is automatically 4 jobs gone. On top of that, we have these Flat sorting machines coming online in late '09 to early '10....and once these are working clerks will be let go as well.....and ON TOP of that routes are being walked and assessed as to there length. And routes are going to be adjusted and cut....just in our office alone if all these things go into effect - we will lose 7 carriers out of 26. And probably 2 clerks.
The mail volume is SO low that the Postal service has around 640,000 workers and is the second leading employer in the country. Not sure who the first is. And only enough work for 400,000. The Postal service will LOSE over 1 BILLION dollars in the month of May alone. Roll that around your tongue a few times.....
