To be fair, the list is based on greatness, which is not the same thing as skill. I don't think anyone argues that to begin with. And if people think that JSS is as "great" as the likes of Perry, Mercury, and so forth... they're retarded.

Firm difference between skill and legend.

Great reply. I think a lot of people confuse these 'greatest' polls with 'most technically proficient'. That's always been a pet peeve of mine. I hate it when people argue a 'greatest' opinion article. Greatest can mean a ton of things to anyone...including record sales & concert attendance.

JSS and Augeri hardly rate that status. Both very good and have loyal followings, but neither really fit this list. Arnel Pineda won't ever either.

Back to the List ....

Postby annie89509 » Wed May 27, 2009 6:32 pm

I agree with Brywool, Paul MacCartney never seems to get his due from the rock critics. Maybe they think he's "pop"...? John's always been held the highest regard of the FAB 4, but it was Paul that was the creative force from '65 on until their breakup. Heck, he practically wrote and sang all their latter-day hits. And, as I understand it (after-the-fact) ... Magical Mystery Tour, St. Peppers, Yellow Submarine ... all originated as Paul's brainchildren.

To answer B's post, I think Jrny1 (the other Ed) is JSS Rocks; way back when, he told us he was taking on a new name (turning over a new leaf) after Andrew let him back in. Some seem to think Suzie is here, but don't know who that could be.

If not, he should've or that list is bogus.

Also, Rod Stewart above Perry kinda nixes it too.

I agree, but I was told Stewart is Stewart whatever to hell that means.

Stewart gets extra points for his ability to nail hot chicks one-third his age.

lol...the same old terms ("soulful" and "emote") for singers that can't even sell out the local taverns. Paul Stanley has a fucking army of fans and Eric Martin has....you and Deb. How come, just like with Soto, no one else hears this "soul" and "emoting?" Why can't these great "soulful emoters" even fill up a bar? *I* know why...because the two of you drag out these intangible terms to compensate for the fact that no one else is interested in these guys domestically. I'm not saying they're not talented, but you guys waaaaay overestimate their abilities, and their inability to fill up even a tiny venue is pretty much proof of that. Success, as far as hits and the ability to draw a crowd, is not the sole indicator of talent, but it does have something to do with it.

Except for that blather about Paul Stanley (whom no one would be interested in without his Kabuki make up and high-heel shoes) I actually agree with you SJ. :? :D

I like him unmasked!!

My revised Top 10:     :o
1. Steve Perry (Gets No. 1 position on pure talent alone, doesn't need any fourth-quarter heroics)
2. Robert Plant (Going against AI judge Randy Jackson here, reversed 1 and 2)
3. Freddie Mercury (So special on stage, falls short during attempting falsetto)
4. Ronnie Dio (A legend and will be remembered for first rock soaring vocals)
5. Janis Joplin (Love her toasty voice, so 60's and 70's)
6. Ian Gillan (Maybe abit higher here but look who's ahead)
7. Steven Tyler (Still rockingat his age and should inform Steve Perry it's possible)
8. Jim Morrison (Drugs, Party and women, more women, tons of women, free love)
9. Robin Zander (Nothing cheap about this trick, it's called ProTools)
10. Lou Gramm (Great voice and tone, just released a CD)

I agree with a lot of the list, but if I had it my way...the top 5 would look like this...

1. Steve Perry
2. Lou Gramm
3. Jimi Jamison
4. Freddy Mercury
5. Phil Collins

That's just MY opinion. Not that it should change how any of you feel about YOUR favorites! Peace, Love and happiness!

Thats a bloody good list IMO. And Phil Collins is awesome, but I'd probably swap Phil over with somebody like Farnsy (Johhny Farnham), and it would be the strongest list around.
