Perry and VH1 BTM

Postby sonorstks » Sat May 30, 2009 7:51 am

What was Perry's motivation to do the VH1 BTM?
For so many years of nothing, wonder why in 2001 he had so much to say.
Anyone?

He knew everybody else was going to participate in it and wanted to make sure his side of the story was told.

VH1 should produce a Steve Perry BTM.
Then maybe we can find out if there is in fact a new album and if we will ever get a listen.

Are they even making new BTMs anymore?

I dont think it would get many viewers to be honest. He is distant memory apart from his few "faithful fans"

You're outta your mind. "Few'"? Wait until he puts out new music and we can see exactly what "few" means.

Distant memory? Yea, so distant that a performance that was never really scheduled, caused a major uproar.

"Few" and "Distant".....please.

Yea, i'd have to agree on this one, once new music comes out from him and it's a month or two into the circulation process, fans that maybe don't even know who Steve Perry is, but know his voice on all those songs from Journey will skip on the ship. So many people unlike us here, that know of him or know of his voice, will find out therefore, another following will be amoung us. Bitten so to speak. His voice has that effect on pretty much anyone.

I teach school and alot of teens today were raised on Steve Perry and Journey via their parents. Many students of this generation get into the music of the past, due to a lack of connection to the music of their own generation. Many of my students love his voice, and trust me their are many of us from the generation that Journey existed that still love it today.

Some never join fan sites or blog like we do. But most the folks I know love his voice. Most know who he is and what music he sings. So as one of the "few" I think it will be amazing how quickly people will remember, given a new album. :D

Not to burst your bubble on that one, Ginger, but not a whole lot of teens are going to be buying a Steve Perry album. You're dreaming. Maybe Perry with Journey some teens would buy, but that's about it. Even then not a whole lot. Though they would go to a Journey concert with Steve, definitely. I have a lot of teens in my extended family and they're familiar with Journey, but none of them are discussing Steve Perry's voice, not really discussing Journey. But know some of their old music and like it.
And truth be told, nobody I know from 35 on in age ever mentions Perry. And if I bring it up, it's oh that guy with Journey. Are they still around? Is he still with them? Not a lotta of interest from everybody with their busy lives age 35 to I guess up to 55. People don't look at me with a lot of interest when I talk about how great Perry was and Journey's great music. They have some in their collection maybe, but it's back in the past. Actually many back then didn't like Journey much. If they all got back together, I'm sure with the marketing lots of people, young and old, would flock to the concert and probably buy an album. Steve alone, will possibly hit gold, if that.

Perry wouldn't even hit gold unless he did it through Walmart with some kind of promotional deal like his GH and a live DVD included. Even Journey will be lucky to get gold on their next release with one disc. Singles are what sells now. you have to think 99 cents , not $9.99 anymore. Albums are dead. Revelation and AC/DC's Black Ice were some of the last big ones out the door with Walmart. It's a dying format for making money. Touring's where it's at.

George was the best, but Kramer and Elaine were right on his heels. The brilliance and talent of all the actors playing their characters made each other even better. Well, Jerry was Jerry, but great.

Perry doesn't need the younger fans to sell..

The largest buying demographic in music today?

According to the 2007 RIAA Consumer survey: http://www.riaa.com/keystatistics.php?c ... umertrends

Age
10-14 Years - 11.5 %
15-19 Years - 12.3 %
20-24 Years - 11.3 %
25-29 Years - 9.2 %
30-34 Years - 11.3 %
35-39 Years - 11.9 %
40-44 Years - 7.9 %
45+ Years - 24.8 %

So ages 30 and older comprise 55.9% of the music buyers.

This fits with the declining birthrate over the last 40 years... meaning there will be fewer teen buyers, because there are simply fewer teens. And even with the economic downturn... the Boomers STILL have the largest disposable income.

Perry's best bet is to target the same audience that loved him when he was with Journey... cause there's simply more of them. When you factor in the international audience, where Perry is worshiped AND the limited resurgence Journey has gotten so far... which reminds people of Perry.. it all adds up to Perry not having any problem selling... none at all..

I love Babu Bhatt but he pissed me off on the finale by turning against the gang. Wanted to break off his giant finger and shove it up his nose.

Do you find even Newman to be a hilarious character that has his wonderfull subtleties? I love Newman!

According to the 2007 RIAA Consumer survey: http://www.riaa.com/keystatistics.php?c ... umertrends

Age

25-29 Years - 9.2 %

Then maybe we can find out if there is in fact a new album and if we will ever get a listen.

This act is getting old.....

So is the one above it!!
