RJD is the one I pick, but Bruce Dickinson is right there also.

And there was never a time in his career that he could have sang Mother Father like Perry did in Houston 1981, EVER. Not close. He would have had to hit all of the high notes in falsetto.
Do they call him "The Voice"?
Well, somebody has their "Fanboy" cap on. So "guy who sings notes the highest, the longest" is the lone criterion for "best vocalist ever"? Especially if they sound like shit when they try to sing low notes? You need a vacation from Perryland.
If you listen to RJD through the ages, from Elf through Rainbow, then Black Sabbath and beyond, you'll understand that the timbre and texture of his voice is one many other rock & metal vocalists tried to emulate (most of them were not successful). Dio can't hit high notes like he used to, but in his prime those notes sounded razor-sharp and very powerful, yet thankfully they lacked the thin/nasally nutless-wonder quality associated with a zillion other singers that sang in the uppermost register.
And sorry, Steve Perry couldn't sing songs like "Neon Knights," "Tarot Woman," "The Last In Line" in a mode akin to Dio's. SP's voice was never ballsy enough. His voice wouldn't work in that context.
LOL! @ "The Voice." That's such a stupid title. You have no idea how many singers are called that by their fans. I've also heard (of all people) Paul Rodgers and Greg "Swallowed A Toad" Lake called "The Voice"!!!madsplash wrote:You said he had a tougher catalog than Perry. I mostly agree with you, but he'd struggle with SP's stuff more than SP would struggle with his.
Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. See my remarks above.

nothing more to say after the assertive answer from verslibre to Madplash, i agree with him when he say to you that "you need a vacation from Perryland" and know and listen other artist..anyway i just love both (Dio-Perry), they are totally different styles, but "The voice" of metal is RJ Dio no question about it...but like a person say here before, many artist are call "The voice" by their fans..only one thing i'm sure Ronnie J and Steve P have and had (?) voices out of this world!
I have to disagree. Bruce Dickinson is the one I pick, but RJD is right there also.

Had to!
Bruce says you're just dyslexic, so sometimes these things can't be helped.

LMAO....I love that clip....signing autographs and throws Viv under the fucking bus! First of all, why would you ditch Dio to play with Def Lep?!?!?!?
I'll find it.

I'll find it.
Simple: He didn't. He left for Whitesnake....bigger band than Dio ever was. Then went to Def Lep.....bigger band than both the previous two together.
Pacfanweb wrote:BTW, Sammy Hagar is 62, I believe, (or will be a few months) and I don't know of anyone whose voice is as intact as his is. I think his tone has changed, but he can still sing anything he ever recorded pretty easily.
Lots of folks don't like his voice, but nobody can deny that the Red Rocker still "has it". I'd submit that Hagar has far more of his vocal chops left than do any of the singers mentioned in this thread so far.

Plus, I seem to remember him and Dio being at odds, with Adrian saying that Dio didn't want to pay him, or something like that.
