Thanx for posting. A lot of the same stuff, but very enjoyable listen. The band will be playing coming up pretty soon today, I guess, there.

That was sad when they questioner mentioned John Waite playing to 300 people. I love Waite's music and voice.

thanks for sharing. Very cool
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I still get pissed when I hear about some fans getting angry about the three-hour show because they didn't know some of the songs. What a bunch snotty brats. I mean, how often do you see that kind of a show? In a perfect world we wouldn't have any 'casual' fans.

About Ross...

Postby 4ever4Steve » Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:34 pm

Did anyone else notice Ross has seemed to get even thinner than he was? His face looks so gaunt, I didn't think he had his teeth in :o ! Seriously though, I hope he is well.
Deen looks different too, a bit heavier and no more whiskers! ( which is an improvement!)
I went to a concert last summer at Jones Beach, and I hope I can go to the one at the Nassau Colleseum on 8/31...but money is a bit tight right now :( .
All in all, thanks for putting these up...good to seee the band so happy.

The 3 hour show was probably one of my favorite concerts of all time. I'm a big fan of the pre-Perry music.

Maybe for their 35th anniversary they could do something like Steely Dan, who is doing 3 shows in a row and playing entire albums. Journey has so many albums, it would be great if they did a few shows with multiple nights and music from each era. 70's, 80's, 90's+. I know I would be there for all 3. :D :D :D

Oh well, dream on.

The band did mention they have about 50 songs in the playlist for this year's concerts so they should be mixing it up a bit.

Isn't that the truth. I remember when I read a review of one of my favorite bands' concert, the reviewer said it was sad that they had a great new album and most didn't pay attention to the new music or more obscure older songs and only came alive when the old hits were played from the '80s and '90s. :? I feel for older bands still trying to put out new music or do something different in concert like Neal did. It's a reality, I guess.

Coinciding with the band's return to its "legacy sound", looks like Ross has re-grown his cookieduster 'stache.

Rather than bob and weave and all-around spin like a dervish, Neal's new tact when it comes to the dismissals of Augeri and Jeff is to simply say: "shit happens."
A subtle tip of the hat in acknowledgment of the fuck-ups of the past 8 years.
Beats blaming your internal conflicts on “drunk fans”, I guess.

Neal and the band risks giving hostage to fortune labeling Arnel as “the missing ingredient since Perry”.
That’s a tall order, and one that’s been leveled twice already.
I guess only the new album will tell for sure.

Video clips sound good.

There has never been any bob and weave when it came to the reason SA is no longer in the band. He got sick, could not sing and everyone knows this. Frankly, I like JSS, but he was not a great fit for Journey. While I don't agree with the way his termination went down, I do agree that it was the right decision. And, it seems that Journey was already courting Arnel when JSS got let go, but had not been hired yet. That makes me think that Neal pretty much had it figured out that he was getting Arnel or would enlist Jeremey for the job. Arnel is the best thing since SP...I totally agree, but don't believe me. It's written all over the fans when they play a gig. Arnel has great command of the audiance and superb stage presence. :D

An unprecedented media blackout on the eve of a national co-tour with Def Leppard would seem to indicate otherwise.
Their PR handlers were running scared and, at least for the outset, had no idea how to respond.
That's a fact.

Steve Perry brought alot more to the group than just stage presence and high notes.
Whether Arnel's talents extend any deeper than that remains to be seen.
The argument you're making has been made before in defense of Journey replacement singers here and gone.

There was bobbing and weaving re Steve Augeri's alleged lip-synching during tour b/f it was reported and all of a sudden he left the tour b/c of vocal problems.

The more we played, the bigger crowds we got, and the audience warmly welcomed Steve Augeri. He is the right guy for the band. He has also brought us freshness and more bluesy and R&B feel. Nobody denies the fact that Steve Perry is an outstanding singer, but it is natural to give the person the seat if there's a wonderful singer worth the try.

But years ago when I heard Steve Augeri's voice when he was in Tall Stories, I said, this is when I was in Bad English years ago, and I heard him on the radio and I go, man if we ever wanted to put Journey back together, and Steve Perry didn't want to do it, I would call this guy, because I know we could make it sound like Journey.
It's nothing verbatim you're trying to copy everything this guy has done, but you need to have someone that has similarities to be able to pull off the old material.

And so on and so on. Pineda is all good until he starts to falter a bit, then he should start watching for the knife.

One-hit wonder, lol? I guess the Europeans don't know Journey's music; I wonder why? I hope they blow them away at that monster metal concert this summer (I don't think it's happened yet). THAT is going to be interesting. Anyway, they look great--Neal looks so happy. Thanks very much for posting this!

P.S. Love this--they are going to prove to the promoters that they aren't "soft." Neal, please when you come to Austin, rock the Erwin Center like you're going to rock Europe--this is very exciting!! To me anyway :) .
