The first song I ever wrote...

Postby G.I.Jim » Sun Jun 07, 2009 2:06 pm

Well, this isn't technically my first song EVER, but it's the first song that I actually ever finished. I know some of you have heard it, but for those that haven't heard it... I hope you like it!

I wrote it two weeks before I joined a country band, so people who aren't country fans should stay away from this. It's called "Just No Way", and I initially wrote it for my best friend who died during high school but it then morphed into a song about losing a loved one. I think it's one of the best songs I've ever written, and I'm very proud of it. this version is the studio version from my band "Spears Creek". I wrote and co-wrote 5 songs for our album, and I learned a LOT from the experience. I mixed and sang a lot of backing vocals for the album. The band put most of the project in my hands, and I think it turned out pretty good for a cheap album. :D

This isn't the best version I have, but it has some steel guitar in it that I really like. I hope you like it!

Thanks for the compliments, but that isn't my voice. His name is Kevin Mitchum, and he was the lead vocalist. I just sang backing vocals. I used to have these Spears Creek songs on my Myspace page, but I think it probably just confused people with my other songs being so different. I took them off a few months ago.

I was trying to sell downloads of them, and I think I sold about 11 downloads.   If I were set-up with a country page I'm sure I would have had some luck, but oh well...I'm just not into country anymore.

I'm glad you liked it though!

He really did have a great voice. Too bad the band didn't work out. We did have a couple of songs hit the radio though, which was pretty cool! One of our songs was played in over 40 states, but just fizzled out. The band fought CONSTANTLY once our focus shifted to the business end of the music. Once the band nominated the singer's girlfriend as our manager... I knew it was time to exit stage-left. It got bad real soon, and she basically took our money and tried to get him a solo record deal. Not cool. The band lasted about a year and a half before it imploded.

Oh well, it was a great learning experience. Here's the opening track from the album. I co-wrote the song, and it's called "Good Times". Definitely country, and pretty damn up-beat! I hope you like it.

Thank you! I really appreciate it, and I'm glad you like it. It's definitely a lot different than anything else I've worked on, and I'm pretty sure that my country days are long over. I'm still plugging away at new songs for my current project, but I've been so busy that it's been REALLY slow going. I haven't even talked to Alex now for weeks, and it's making me wonder if this project is dead in the water? No matter what happens, these songs WILL be heard. I'm going to try to finish a couple of more songs in the next 2 or 3 weeks, and we'll see what happens.

Here's one more track from Spears Creek. Another one I co-wrote called "Why Don't We Talk Anymore". Hope you like it!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it, and I'm glad you like it. We wrote that album back in 2003, so it's pretty old to me. Country is definitely not for everyone though, and I probably just made a few people throw up in their mouths after hearing these songs. I hope to have some new MELODIC songs finished before too long. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks very much for the compliments again, I really appreciate it. I'm just glad some of you here like it. I AM of course posting this on a melodic rock forum. It is too bad about that band, because I think if we would have had a good producer, we could have possibly done something big. Guess I'll never know now. Now if I can just get my OTHER project off the ground... :?

Damn...I should set up a sales system based on dances and....uh.....other things! I'd probably have at least three dollars by now.  Glad you and the hubby enjoyed it. I'll have to get on here tomorrow and upload a couple of other tracks. I can't do it from my laptop, and my wife is trying to get my damn pc working right now. We're having some error where it only lets me go to a couple of sites, but no others. VERY strange, and I hope it's not something serious! I'll let you know tomorrow. Hope you all have a good night.

LOL! Great Song GI. You have a gift. Danny loves Country as well as rock and he said it is a good song. He liked the words and the melody. I asked him to dance........strictly for marketing reasons of course.............

Hey stranger! Hope you've been doing well. I got that impression, because you've said on here that you don't like it. I'm honored that you like mine though, and a lot of our songs were more rock than country. I think a couple of them had some cross-over potential. It was a cool experience for me, and I learned a lot. I'm still friends with the guys, but the funny thing is...I'm the only one still playing music. The singer's now a cop, the drummer sold his drums and plays soccer, the guitarist sold all of his stuff and now works nights in a factory in Wisconsin, and the bass player now spends his days fixing copiers. I still talk to them every now and then, but it's definitely a thing of the past.

Edit...sorry Rick, I miss read your statement, and thought you said "I don't know why you think I don't like country". My mistake, your fault!
