While I certainly agree that Perry, in his prime, is clearly the better singer I sense tons of emotion when Arnel sings. Open Arms, Faithfully and After All These Years being 3 fine examples. And may I ask you, how many times have you seen Arnel live?

+1.

+2. I can love Perry sinigng Faithfully and feel it's one of his best vocal deliveries and still listen to Arnel in concert and feel emotion from his wonderful performance of that song and enjoy it.

I like Arnel, but he is not in the ballpark with Steve..........Steve had a voice that was unique in it's own right. He had a range that was bar none. And as much as I like Arnel, he would agree Perry was one of a kind, and someone he aspired to. I have heard both men live.

Steve put on a better show, and made me have goosebumps. He touched your heart! Unless you seen both men in their prime it would be hard for you to say. I hate to say it but the recordings on youtube don't do either men justice. Steve still has a superior tone and sound. He was solid on the notes. His voice had a deep resounding presence. You left the show with a feeling I have never felt at any concert with any other singer, not even Arnel. It was an event you would treasure for a lifetime.

I could care less if he cannot hit the high notes ever again. It is not what makes his voice great. His voice in lower registers still would be warm, beautiful, and uplifting. I will not beleive otherwise till I hear otherwise. One loon rant over! LOL!

If Perry puts out an album, I would go to see him one more time. Even if I have to work two jobs for the ticket money!

Now having that said. I still like Arnel, and would go see him sing again. :D

Well it's nice to know....and it's not that I don't like AP...I just don't like what happened...

...which was absolutely not Arnel's fault

+1.....and Arnel did not replace Steve Perry. Arnel replaced JSS.

I agree. no one could touch Perry in these songs. His range and his tone just fit the music. Its really not fair to Arnel or or JSS. You cant compare Perrys voice since its beyond compare

True dat. And love when her and Cyndy randomly share those memories with us, too. Especially that one when we were all talking about the ROR Mountain Aire show and Lora shared how they sat on the hill and watched rehearsals for hours. Man that would have been cool, I love ROR, could easily sit through 20 takes of Girl Can't Help It. :D

Amen, brother.

We can all argue all we want about how "wonderful Arnel is"...or NOT.....but it doesn't change the fact that AP is the latest in the line of sound-a-likes and "Revelation" has had over a year now to prove whether or not he can replace SP (I exclude the other sound-a-likes because they truly DON'T COUNT) effectively. No doubt he can sing........but he is NOT SP. Like I've said before elsewhere, at least he has other lead singers he has been known to mimic to fall back on after this gig ends. Until then, he's just embarrassing himself. IMO.

Peace.
It doesn't matter what you say, because I'm ALWAYS right!!!! LOL!!

It's really a transformation from a medical standpoint for SP. In an interview i read, he said that right before (maybe a year or so ) he joined Journey, he had mulitple health problems. He said he had a gum problem, he said he stood 5-8, 5-9, and weighed 140, He said he couldn't pay the rent or eat well enough to maintain any energy or for a better understanding, eat proper foods. Now, this coming from a guy who i believe owns the greatest voice in rock and possibly will hold the record for the shortest career but the greatest stint for the ages. Truly a rags to riches leap. Now, AP's story is somewhat the same as he lived in a place with awful healthcare and AP has even talked about it.

Comparable in nature but not in depth or scope. Arnel wins the sympathy (but not the voice) by miles and miles and miles. And rightfully so.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Unfortunately, it's not the AP fans that started this shit. If you go back not even two years ago, AP and his fans were a victim of a lot of negativity from other Journey fans. What you are seeing on youtube is a retaliation to all of these negativity towards Arnel and his fans before. I don't agree with what they are doing but in a way, I understand where they are coming from.

I said I'd go back and look up past posts; I did and truly I couldn't find anything like you implied about Journey fans starting negative posts about AP... I saw a few opinions about personal preferences but nothing major .... There was a number of posts expressing a negative feeling toward some of journey's handling of past singers and a concern for any new singer falling by the same sword... I found nothing that gives AP's fans the right to bash SP thus to me your theory doesn't hold water. :)

Oh, believe it. I was around back then, last year. I saw practically every single clip of Arnel from the beginning on. Arnel's site would post new clips of Arnel performing, and I would scroll down and be horrified at some of the things being said about Arnel. Vicious, inciteful and racist stuff. I felt bad for his fans on there. But don't get me wrong, Arnel's so-called fans on YouTube who then retalitated and were saying disgusting things are just as bad and gives Arnel and Filipinos a bad name, just like the So-called Perry fans on these Youtube clips look who are so vile or just plain stupid. But all the crap that was said, to me, aren't the regular fans. You could tell all of them are losers and enjoy what they're doing and saying to get a rise out of the other. They create new accounts and have different names. But just like on here no Perry fan seems to notice the crap that was said about Arnel and only Perry, the same holds true for Arnel's site. They focus on all the stuff that is vicious against Arnel, and not Perry now. And I've said the same thing on Arnel's site as I'm saying here. So I'm the objective one. It's from both sides and I excuse none of those losers. And those Arnel fans aren't off his site. They are very peaceful and kind people on his site. It's the usual internet youtube losers that enjoy the filth they were spewing back and forth. Fortunately, there's normal give and take and comments by all fans in an intelligent manner, too, on YouTube clips. I just don't read any of it anymore.

That, would be great but it's not likely going to happen as long as the so called AP fans keep posting negative comments about SP... they have to understand they never will change what was because what was ,was too great to ever forget... so making negative posts will only cause hard feelings among some long term fans toward AP. JMO

He, didn't say youtube fans only.. so I was under the impression he meant MR fans... so this is where I went back and looked up past posts.... I don't try to deal with youtube fans because some of them are indeed very nasty mannered people who say some very ugly things about others... Some of the MR fans certainly aren't pollyannas but still there's a level of class about MR members that make their opinions more acceptable and important to the Band...and yes I believe that this site is monitored closely by the band because it is a more creditable source of information and the fans are loyal and truly love Journey come what may.... AP is now a member of Journey and treated as a member by the MR fan base... he will be fussed over and fussed at just like the others are...that's the price of being the lead singer of a much loved band. JMO :)

Alas it all started here. All of these posts have been deleted now and rightfully so. Any long time member of this board will tell you how bad it was during that time. Much to my disappointment, that went on a tad longer than necessary. If you want to do a little bit of searching, go here:

That's a web archive (around 2007) of the journeymusic.com website. You will find familiar nicknames there.

Here's a news article in the Philippine media:

This, I believe was repeated in the mainstream press as well.

These nasty things said about Arnel (chink, outsourced, cheap labor, hiding their dogs when Journey tours near them come to mind) did reach the Philippines and I am sure you will understand why a lot of people there are furious.

Just to clarify my points:

a) No one can touch Perry in his prime. Period.

b) Arnel has improved dramtically since that initial comparison video.

c) If you compare Arnel of today to Perry on his last solo tour, I think it's VERY hard to say who is better. Perry still has more emotion but you can't deny Arnel's power and overall energy. It would be very hard for Perry of today to improve on Arnel's always powerful performance on Seperate Ways. Arnel and co have really re-introduced that song to their live audiences and the version they play now is dramatically better than any previous live performance from the band. The live versions with SP were always rushed for instance and didn't really allow you to feel the rock pulse of that song like you can now.

I've always loved Arnel's better than Perry's SW live. There's few songs live compared to Perry that I would say Arnel improves upon, but that's one. I also love him performing WITS live. I love Perry's just as much. They're so different. I absolutely love Perry's cleaner, higher-pitched vocals on it, but I do love Arnel's more rock version with his voice.
As much as I listen to Perry ad nauseum and he's unmatched in absolutely all areas, he hasn't performed with Journey since '87 live. So when I go to see Journey with Arnel, I'm always enthralled by his voice and energy on most of the songs, not all, and actually just excited to see Journey live again with their great musicianship in the year 2009. Rock on, Neal.

[/quote Ok, I saw a few stupid comments not the all out racial overkill you implied... I do think that you helped fuel some of that fire by some of the things you said also.... most of the anger was toward Journey with some of the anger projected toward AP this is true..... some of the people involved have admitted that they were wrong and moved on so why then are you still trying to fuel a past moment of blind anger ... And not one time have you heard or read where SP said anything negative about AP have you ... and I can bet you none of the AP fans who bash and write negative things about SP have read or heard him say anything negative about AP either... so I still say they have no right to mistreat a man who has nothing to do with Journey's current lineup and who hasn't had anything to do with Journey for over ten years.
