Manila DVD to be available this fall

Postby steveo777 » Sun Jun 14, 2009 7:39 am

Thanks to Helix for posting this at AP's site.

Journey in Manila - Beyond HD

Wizard Entertainment produces benchmark Journey Concert DVD “Live in Manila” using RED One cameras in 4K resolution … the results are Beyond HD.

“The RED technology allowed us to deliver an extraordinary, high quality DVD that connects the viewing audience with the band’s performance in a way never seen before. The 4K resolution is more than four (4) times the resolution of 1080P HD. We can now produce a far superior product at a less expensive price point and it gives us tremendous flexibility to soften the images and make each artist look their best. The photo below is from the video footage shot during the concert. The images are amazing”-Dan Barnett, Executive Producer Wizard Entertainment.
Journey Wide Shot

The Journey-Live in Manila project was the perfect example of having the right people working on a project that would make the end product exceptional and create collaborative harmony during the production.

At the helm of this creative process was Director - Eli Tishberg. Eli directed the line cut and supervised the IMAG feed. The Director of Photography positions are key to the success of this project due to the difference in the way we capture and control the images. Steve Gibby and Champe Barton shared the role of DP and delivered amazing footage. Lighting is always the key to a benchmark video. This project had two of the best in the business. Jeff Ravitz from Visual Terrain was overseeing the TV and audience lighting and Kevin Christopher adapted the live show as Journey’s LD. By using RED ONE, a cutting edge camera system, it eliminates the need to rent an HD production truck. Each camera records the entire concert on its own hard drive.
Journey Post Show

We place high priority on the quality and resolution of the production. We produce a far superior product than HD at a less expensive price point. The only way to accurately experience this collaboration is to watch the DVD which will be in stores in the fall of 2009. Wizard Entertainment will continue to champion the RED technology with other major music artists and future DVD production projects.

4 times the resolution of HD. Well, seeing how we all have HD only TVs, how is that going to look any different? For the future, yes but for now, what's the benefit?

The technology doesn't mean anything to me either, but I'm excited to know about when we can expect the DVD. Seems like it's gonna be great quality though. Better than YouTube vids, right? :D

They need to let Perry produce it, the fucker is good at that stuff, judging by the remasters and Houston DVD.

Yeah, this better not have the sound that the Revelation DVD had. On the Revelation CD, Arnel is too loud. On the DVD, you can't hear him.

But I'm so pumped. I want it. Badly. More than sex! :D

Before this gets to far, If anyone thinks I was attemping to derail the thread by putting Perry's name in the post above, you can go munch on freshwater turtle cocks.

Thanks

Is this going to be a Journey site exclusive purchase or is it going to be at BestBuy, etc.?

If it doesn't look like a Y, I don't know if I'd even taste it. If its looks like a T, you can keep it.

It better be better than the Vegas DVD. I thought the Vegas DVD sucked after a couple watches. The camera was all weird and coming in from weird/different angles. Better choreography is needed.

I'm pretty excited for this, too. I loved the setlist they played, so hopefully it all makes the DVD. It bothers me when bands only put partial shows on a DVD. Rush couldn't have done any better of a job with their Snakes & Arrows Live DVD. Perfection.

I think the real benefit to adding on some type of resolution quality is part of a marketing strategy. I've never heard of this type of resolution before, does it really exist yet. Reminds me of the blu-ray music cd movement that is going on in Japan right now. Seems like its pretty much hype to generate interest in people to buy albums they already have cd's and remasters of already.

But a video of the show in Manila might be something interesting to watch since I've not seen that show at all yet.

If the setlist doesn't all make it, I'm going to stab someone. Probably Gunbot or Jim. Douchebags.

Could you be so nice as to get with me so we can schedule it? I want to make sure it doesn't conflict with the days I have already reserved for kitty licking.

There's a fan edit of the 81 Tokyo DVD that came out excellent, 5.1 surround and all that. One of the most impressive boots out there.

Anytime the source material is improved the end result will look better as well. So the DVD will indeed look better because of the superior recording methods used.
