Michael Bolton w/Neal, Jon, and Randy Jackson

Postby Voyager » Sun Jun 14, 2009 5:13 pm

I never saw this video before now... Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, and Randy Jackson backing up Michael Bolton singing the Otis Redding classic "Dock Of The Bay."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90NsO02Qy38

I like what Neal, Jon, and Randy did on the song, but I'm not sure I care for the vocal. I think Bolton should have kept it more like the original was:

That's fake as Bonnie's boobs. The only one I believe participated was Cain, but not on video. Neal would have no part of THAT and RJ...well, that could have been a look a like, but I doubt very much it's him. I think that's a video collage and I can swear I've seen Schon play that riff in a different video.

MTV played this video all the time. It's from the album entitled The Hunger. Neal and Jon helped him out on the whole thing, not just this one song. Not sure about the Randy Jackson appearance though.

Ohhh I dunno man, IMO there isn't many singers with the power of Bolton, as good, but probably not better :)

Thats the official video. No fake at all there.
This was before they considered Bolton to front Journey.

Are you referring to his two-minute "hard rock" career? Nothing impressive from what I recall.

His 2 albums from 83 and 85 are still considered 2 of the finest AOR/melodic rock releases. And they were incredibly impressive.

I agree, the original is so much better. I do like Michael Bolton, though.

What I thought was funny was later Jon's Brother became the Drummer for Michael Bolton.........His name by the way was Mugs...........he gave a woman a sock to put on the journey friendship quilt. It was all he had............he was at a ball game at the time! LOL!

My friend in the picture was a nurse who took care of me during my biopsy. She was a Bolton fan, I was a Journey fan, and this was when that album came out! We made fast friends! She found out about the Journey friendship quilt, and when she found out Mugs was JC's kid brother, she rallied him to the quilt project! LOL! The picture is of her asking for something. Tommy (aka Mugs) offered his baseball sock! LOL! The sock is on the quilt today.  She also got me an autograph, she was such a sweetie! :D

I know they worked with him, and I know he sang for the band at one Awards show or something like that, but I never knew he was considered to front the band. I know you like him, and I do too, to an extent, but I don't think he would have fit at all. He sings like he's passing a kidney stone.

Danny Gokey sounds like Bolton. Never really cared for the style - it sounds like they have been gargling with glass fragments. Gives me a sore throat just hearing it.

And so does Andrew, he said "Everybody's Crazy" is one of the best AOR albums ever made, and owning that album, I tend to agree. It's basicially like any other good AOR album, catchy vocals, stellar hooks, nice big sound.

But! I certainly do not have any Bolton posters on my wall! :D no thanks, I only have a painted art of a Bruce Lee portrait on my wall ;-)

Also, Michael Baird and Mugs Cain played on it.

This could almost have been called Michael Bolton ft. Journey or even Journey ft. Michael Bolton.

I'm very surprised that Jon Friga never collaborated with Michael Bolton more than they did. They are both a couple of cheeseballs.

There are two Michael Boltons: There's the one everyone has heard of. You know the one, the sucky one. Then there's the other one, the one that could rock with the best of them - the one that couldn't catch a break, the one you probably haven't heard before. That's the guy I liked.

http://www.banophernalia.com/reviews/mu ... ists_b.htm

Bolton went from, "he's good, he's gonna make it" to "Bolton sucks" in short order. 'Cause he strayed from rock. Kinda sad when Richard Marx's stuff rocks more than what made Bolton famous.
