What would be your take on those songs with Arnel singing them....Like if they decided to do

Is it the songs you don't like? Or is it just the way Perry sang them?

Sorry I missed you when you came to town btw, next time....and the first round is on me!

Dude, that's one of the most rediculous things I've ever read!!! I own every Journey album ever released, and while I don't like their 1st three albums (or the Dream after Dream album), I'm one of their biggest fans EVER! I also don't like Red13 or Generations either...guess I'm not a fan either.   That is just freaking retarded!

I've never liked or connected to any other band like I have Journey, and I also played in a damn Journey Tribute band. However, with you're method of reasoning...I'm not a Journey fan? While Dan is on his "Steve Perry sucks routine", your statements are just crazy! :?

If you came out here and said you hate and despise Journey before Perry joined, or Red13 or Generations, then yes, I would say you were not a fan of Journey.

I also say it is pretty arrogant to say you are one of their biggest fans ever.

If you "like and connected" to Journey...then you should also respect the music they created that you didn't connect to so much...because that is part of what journey is.

Have your parents ever done anything you hated? Obviously you don't "Love" your parents then! That's what you're saying. Think about it!

I've never said I "hated Journey before Perry", Dan did. He expresses himself differently than I do. Even if he DOES, he can still be a fan! Nearly every band that I love has put out a stinker album. So what? I listen to the other albums that I DO like, and I'm still they're fan. Bands are like people... They make mistakes, and fuck up occasionally. It's human nature.

To say that it's arrogant for me to say I'm a Journey fan is just fucking ignorant! The radio station here knows me as "Journey Jim". All my friends harrass me about my love for Journey, and I have a fucking Journey poster hung in my studio. Not a fan? I got something you can kiss buddy!

I remember a Rolling Stone review of the pre-Friga/Cain albums. They compared Perry's vocals to a seal crying while it was being clubbed. Seriously.

While I can certainly appreciate, and be in awe of, the incredible vocal acrobatics that Perry delivered it's just not my cup of tea. This is interesting. I too often think that Journey's biggest turning point was a little moreso the additon of Jon Cain. While we all respect everyone in the band, when JC came in the water got a little bit clearer. The lyrics were more mature and the overall album production cleaned-up a bit. The sonic became crisper and the songs more solid. Some of this can also be attributed to Steve Smith. His drums were played & recorded better after the live album. Maybe it was just a producer thing, I don't really know. But in '81, it seems the band just got better, if not completely different.

I do wish though that Gregg Rolie was still in the band. Journey should be a six-piece.

I didn't say he wasn't a fan. I said if a person hates or despises any certain era, then they are not a fan of Journey, but of something else. Journey is from 1974 to this very day.

Nearly every band that I love has put out a stinker album. So what?

correct...so what.

I love when someone defines what "they" think a fan is, and try to tell others they do not measure up. We are all fans, or we would not be on this site day after day talking endlessly about this band! LOL!

I for one have been a fan for a long time, as I am sure some have been fans even longer.......so what? Somewhere down the road each of us turned on a radio, went to a concert, or just youtubed a song and fell in love with this band. One does not have to love all eras of the band to love the band. Some do, and that is great. I find something great in all eras myself, but some I prefered more than others. That is a personal oppinion and preference. But something joined us in affection for this band, right?

The true arrogance is to say no one has a right to call themselves a fan unless they fit into the criteria you deam fit. I am a fan, GI is a fan, SJ is a fan, Annie is a fan, Susie P is a fan, Ari is a fan, SW2, Jubilee, Rhi, and all the others here are fans.

Each love this band in their own way. And each have feelings about the change ups in their own way. Music can be a very personal thing........and feelings are personal...........and everyone is entitled to their own.

Preparing for disection of rant in 1.............2..............3............LOL!

Love ya too Giddy, I'll bake some cookies in your honor. Everyone here is a fan. I know you are. Regardless if your a spoon, loon, JC fan, Dean fan, Neal fan, fan of the drum set.......you get my point. No one should feel put down, looked down on, or disrespected over why they love this band. You guys are free to debate till you turn purple. I will love this band, and for the reasons "I" love it. And you will probably do the same. Enjoy the debate, I will read, laugh, and see that both sides are passionate, and dedicated fans. I just don't see the sense in arguing........what a great band.........and what wonderful music I have had the honor to enjoy................

That's how it sounds to me on most of the early songs. It wasn't until Escape that he even sounded like a man. But I do appreciate, and can be in awe of, his early skyscraper female-sounding voice. It's just not for me.

Exactly. And, if you HATE the version of Journey after, or before, one of those "change ups"...then I don't think you are a Journey fan either. Showing such disrespect is not what a fan would do.

Nonsense. Staying true to the highest standards of a band is what the real fan does. Not blindly excusing every mediocre and shabby thing the band gets up to on its downward trajectory...

Jesus, Mary and fucking Joseph, Monker. What gives you the right to define what "Journey" is to people? If someone wants to be a fan of the pre-Perry years, the Perry years, the Augeri years, the Soto months, the Pineda years, all of them or some combination of them, they are a fucking FAN of some part, or all, of Journey. But no matter what you and the two atoms playing Pong in your near empty fucking head think, they are fans.
