The two comments were the exact same. Leno's joke inferred that John Edwards got the daughter pregnant and Letterman made a joke that her daughter was "knocked up by Alex Rodriguez" during the game.

Its is REALLY CLEAR that he was making a joke based on the fact that the older daughter had been pregnant, and not suggesting that Alex Rodriguez would have sex with a 14 year old. I mean really, this has been blown way out of proportion.

You would think if anything was going to spark THIS much unrest, it would have been the Leno joke, because not only was it during the campaign, but also after the Edwards scandal, and Leno slammed both Palin's daughter AND John Edwards.

But no one batted a freakin' eye.

From what I hear, he was much funnier as a young comedian.

The only funny part of the show for me is Alan Kalter. Dave hasn't been funny in years.

There's is a story breaking tonite that Republican Senator Ensign (R)Nevada, has admitted to an affair with a campaign staffer. I'm curious to see how big that one rises.

Yep and he should be tossed on his ear.

But it is HIS conduct...not the conduct of his daughter....have at him Deano!

Clinton got away with it, why not Ensign, shit Barney Frank is still allowed in the club.

Who gives a shit? So he had an affair? It isn't against the law. I say more power to him..I just hope for his wallets' sake she was a hot piece of ass.

So someone who is not vengeful, got her revenge. He is losing sponsors now, due to the fact she is talking to the press and people are in an uproar about it. And the uproar from almost every post I read here has more to do with politics than anything else, which I bet is true of the general public upset too. Can you imagine if every comedian had to start apologizng for every joke made in poor taste? It would be the end of comedy. Let's just make the world G for all of us and go back to the 1950's

I agree..........bit exposed isn't she...........  I will just scroll down quickly and ignore your posts............now Andrew................hmmmmmmmmmmm.............

Let's make a deal.

I remove the super sexy girl av and you refrain from cat pics. Sound good? :)

Ginger without cat pics?

NO negotiations........... Andrew did not ask me to refrain from those!   So MEOW BABE!

Haven't put one up in a while...........but since SC loves them so...............................

An indicator of a good message board going south is when its littered with cat pics. Unless its a pet lovers forum I guess.

Sugar I only added that because you told me to not add them. I think it has been a while since I added a cat pic because Deano said he did not care for them............I could care less if I ever add another cat pic on this site. But you guys litter it up with half dressed ladies. So is it a Playboy site?

I am not the only woman here who has added cat pics either. Read any birthday thread!

That's my point. The cat pics have a way of becoming ubiquitous. One starts and its a pile on of lolcats. I try to stay out of the Bday threads. I remember Deano's post but I think I mentioned it in this thread before that.

http://forums.melodicrock.com/phpBB/vie ... 13&start=0

I don't mind them randomly as anything can be used for comedy. Niggy's piano playing cat above is hilarious.

Not intended to single you out but you complained about my super sexy beauty av so I offered a deal.

Your son probably liked the av pic, if not yet, someday. This forum isn't pg13, more like R rated. :)

I don't remember complaining about your av, I said I would scroll down because it is too racy for my son. I never asked you to remove, or do anything. I just was agreeing that Andrew would not be too keen on it, because he also has a child who gets on with him. How you raise your kids is your buisness. But that is not for my house.

And I don't add cat pics that often, and less and less now that Deano and you have griped. Difference is outside of my ribbing you on this thread, I have not added any cats in a while. To try and make you guys happy. Have you respected my feelings the same way?

What made you remove your av, had nothing to do with me. And what you put in your av is up to Andrew not me. I am not your mom. But if I put pics of guys wearing nothing but a strategic sock, you guys would barf your eyes out. I am not turned on by a sexily clad woman. Can you appreciate that?

I have not nor will I tell you guys what you can post. But the double standard is I feel you tell me what I can or cannot post. I can do without the cats........... but it bothers me about the double standard. Guy stuff good.............lady stuff unmasculine and must be stopped. See what I am saying? Still love you guys. And I will try and put up less animal pics. :D

I totally agree with you, Lynn. Politics sucks. It was politics that caused the remark to be made in the first place, and politics that is keeping it going. I'm sure that comment really isn't causing Palin's daughter too much harm. I mean, heck, at least A-Rod is kinda hot. It coulda been this guy...

According to Fact Finder she is. In presidential politics, you are always running for office.

and it's a personal attack on ANY of her daughters.

It was a fucking joke. Get over it.

she has the time NOW to fight back, when campaigning she didn't have time to fight every attack... and there were many.

Boo-fucking-hoo. Thank God for the Media actually doing Mccain's job and actually VETTING this hollow headed bitch. The media saved America from even further embarrassing itself. She will never see the Oval office. Drop the dream already.

i thought i smelled poop.

dearest fucktart,

my post was in reply to jana who was asking why palin didn't repond to leno's jokes like she is to letterman's. just pointing out the fact that she was in the middle of campaigning for the presidental election. there was a lot of things thrown at her. she had no time to address every attack.

nice try trying to twist what i was getting at. i see you tried to make it sound like i was whining. i was just answering a question asked by jana.

so if you're okay with jokes about children can we start a joke thread where we just crack jokes about you & your family? i'm sure we can get at least 10-20 pages.

No, Tree, I also said, giving her the benefit of the doubt back then, it's all over the internet now and being discussed about it many places and she's fully aware of it, and since she's still not letting the Letterman thing go and continuing on with it, she should be raking Leno over the coals too in the media for such a horrible joke. She's not. I don't see Leno apologizing either.

jana how do you know leno never apologized? he could have done so without the public/media hearing about it. palin or someone in her camp could have talked to leno or his camp... without the public/media hearing about it. btw... how do you know what palin is fully aware of???

seriously... is palin supposed to now address every person who personally attacked her and/or her family? because she kept silent in the past means she can't speak out now? would you say the same to an abused child or woman? "you kept your mouth shut before so now you also have to keep quite... or face all your abusers".

it really doesn't matter what she does really... people who don't like her will find fault with whatever she does or doesn't do.

Letterman's writers screwed up. They and Letterman probably didn't even realize she had two daughters. It's all been overblown.

Letterman lost me when he went on full attack mode on GW and anything less than liberal. He went from comedian to using his stage as a pulpit to assail. Not sure what he has been doing, but has been something other than humor. I watched and enjoyed Letterman since his late show on NBC. He turned sometime in the past couple of years and I turned him off. We now watch That 70s Show reruns before turning in.

It's like I've mentioned before about artists...knowing the country is split pretty much down the middle...why alienate potentially half your fan base with your political agenda? Makes no sense to me.

That's what I hate about politics... people will sacrifice their personal values to make them fit inside the party line. Any situation can be perceived 2 entirely different ways, depending on which side of the political spectrum you find yourself on. The sad thing is that is happens on both the left and the right, although neither side will usually admit it.

Don't spin it, just tell it the heck like it is. Ya know? :x And in this case, don't feign outrage just to score points with the public (I'm not saying that's what she's doing, I'm just saying no one should do that).

Grrr... I wish people weren't so mean. :|

Mine actually has nothing to do with politics. I don't care for Palin, true, but if it was someone else in either party, believe me, I would be just as mad about the lengths to the way Letterman, who I am a fan of, is being treated. She called him to task, as well she should have as a mother. He said he was sorry and admitted he had the wrong person but it was still wrong. Made a better apology. And it is still going on and they are calling for him to be fired, boycotted, advertisers bail. Come on. Enough already.

After all the things these comics all over on TV have said and SNL has said for years? What this has become is what bothers me and why I'm using the example of Leno, b/c it's the same thing, and a double standard. To me it's now way overblown against Letterman. I would rather out of this Palin used it as a platform for a discussion on things that have been said by all of them not only against her but also kids like Chelsea Clinton, the Bush twins, etc, and call for some changes on politicians' kids being the butt of late night TV. To be a tween or teen and have comics comment about your looks on national TV can be devastating to your self-esteem growing up. Hell, the joke McCain made about Chelsea's looks was despicable but the Clintons forgave him.

Yeah, I know it was not exactly the same. But if you really look at the big picture, to make people laugh you have to make fun of someone somewhere along the line. Blond jokes offend blonds, Polish jokes offend the Polish. Let's face it, it's not funny if your not making fun of someone. Sam Kineson was one funny motherfucker but how much of what made him funny was at the expense of someone else. If you eliminate that, what do you have? The only comedian who I thought was fucking funny even though he wasn't necessarily making fun of too many others was George Carlin.

Palin accepts Letterman's apology.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090617/ap_ ... rman_palin

NEW YORK – Sarah Palin says she accepts David Letterman's apology for the joke he made about her daughter.

The Alaska governor, in a statement issued Tuesday, said the apology was accepted "on behalf of all young women, like my daughters, who hope men who `joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve."

On his CBS' "Late Show" on Monday night, Letterman said his joke about one of Palin's daughters being "knocked up" by Alex Rodriguez can't be defended.

He said the joke referred to 18-year-old Bristol Palin, not her 14-year-old sister Willow. But Letterman said it's his responsibility that people believed that he intended to target Willow, who had attended a New York Yankees game with her mother.

"I'm sorry about it, and I'll try to do better in the future," he said.

Letterman last week tried to make light of the joke after the first indications that it had fallen flat. Palin had called the comments "sexually perverted," and her husband, Todd, said that "any jokes about raping my 14-year-old are despicable."

Palin said Tuesday that Letterman has the right to joke about whatever he wants to, and "thankfully we have the right to express our reaction."

"This is all thanks to our U.S. military men and women putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's right to free speech," she said. "In this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect."

Not everyone was willing to turn the page.

A "Fire David Letterman" protest was held Tuesday outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, where he tapes the show. The turnout was slim, though: about a dozen.

One of the protesters, New York City real estate agent Tom Muller, said he just wanted "to see a little accountability come to the Letterman show ... And maybe urge him to get back to when he ran a funny TV show and didn't use it for his political pulpit."

Inside the theater, the protest inspired comedy for Tuesday's edition of "Late Show" in the form of "Top Ten Things Overheard at the 'Fire David Letterman Rally.'"

They included:

10. "David who?"

9. "Well, it was nice of CBS to provide the catering."

And ranking No. 8: "We should have done this years ago."

Brent Bozell, president of the conservative watchdog Media Research Center, called Letterman's apology the night before "slippery and Clintonian."

Although Bristol, an unwed mother, was the target of his joke, Letterman didn't name her when it was originally made on June 8.

It was "a coarse joke," "a bad joke," Letterman told viewers. "But I never thought it was (about) anybody other than the older daughter, and before the show, I checked to make sure, in fact, that she is of legal age, 18."

"The joke, really, in and of itself, can't be defended," he declared.

If there's a misconception that he was making the joke about a 14-year-old, Letterman said he understands why people are upset. "I would be upset myself," he said.

"I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke," he said. "It's not your fault that it was misunderstood, it's my fault that it was misunderstood."

Letterman made several references to the issue during his monologue, introducing himself as "Dave Letterman, good will ambassador." He said he got a call from his mother earlier in the day telling him she was siding with Palin.

When he began a joke about Bernard Madoff, whom he called "the most hated man in America," he then amended that to a list of two.

"Me, Bernie Madoff," he said. "He was way out in front until a couple of days ago."

I live in the Netherlands and I find it unbelievable that there is such an outrage over a few jokes. To me it looks like Sarah Palin could use some publicity after all the ridiculous stunts she pulled during the presidential campaign and of course she also has a book to sell. What I also find unbelievable is that there are people who want Sarah Palin te become president even after all her ridiculous remarks during the presidential campaign. Sarah Palin is even dummer than George W. Bush and still people are rooting for her to become president. Unbelievable!

Bingo. This whole thing is absolutely ridiculous. As a long time watcher of late night talk shows I can honestly say I have heard many jokes that are just as bad and worse. She needs the publicity, she needs to keep her name out there, and this is the result.

and p.s. - when the older daughter has a baby at 17 and then spends the whole following year running around on a high horse preaching abstinence... I'm really not feeling all that sorry that her family is getting made fun of. They could have stayed private about all of that, but that girl has been on every news program that would have her airing her whole story.

It's just jokes, and that, right or wrong, is a fact of life for those in the public eye. You can have a sense of humor and roll your eyes and everyone WILL forget it in 10 minutes, or you can drag it out into an even bigger public embarrassment.

I agree. It's pretty much what I've been saying through the whole thread 8)

I think Michael Richard is AWESOME and those who got "attacked " by him deserved it, regardless of race. He wouldve been as mad had it been white guys...

Can some of you Palin supporters please explain this to me? What is she talking about? The US Military? What do they have to do with this?

I think she's saying that because our military keeps this country safe, that we have the freedom of speech. She's saying that she hopes that freedom of speech will be used to promote equality and respect. What don't you understand about that butt-bandit!
