Although this Journey review from rushonrock.com is for the Download gig, I think their take on what Arnel is bringing to the table is spot on.

Credit goes to Bitterhalf of AP's site.

What Pineda brings to the Journey table these days, however, is much more than the pipes to bring a sparkling back catalogue alive. He also provides the youthful exuberance his band mates just can’t offer after a lifetime knocking out songs and living on the road. As ZZ Top would prove later in the day you simply can’t by on musicianship alone at a festival demanding the highest standards. Energy is essential.

One neutral review from a long time fan and now opinions suck. Yet during the download Festival that's all we were seeing, opinion after opinion posted as fact.

There is a word for this.

Of course Rdekker is going to think 2007 was better , his boy Soto was in the band then. If memory serves he was Soto's manager or something to that effect...hard not being partial to that

I'm a fan. They were on CMT because they're trying to do something different,. They couldn't find a filipino singer that sounds like Elliot so they have to do other things like gravy train off Taylor Swift.
Hey, what ever works. And even if they lip, I bet they won't throw their own bandmate under the bus.

And how did they throw him under the bus? They were all collectively guilty, and denied it, which is what I would expect. And they said he had vocal problems and couldn't continue the tour. That was true. What, they should take the blame and not Steve A? They were all equally guilty. As a band they made a decision to do it to get through the tour with Def Lep and it bit them in the ass.

Then be the leader of the band and say it. Augeri didn't hire the extra sound guy to monitor the tape. Don't go do an interview saying that the band had no idea what was going on or say Augeri did what he had to do. Say WE, not Augeri. Lipping takes coordination. To feign that Augeri did all this without the band knowing it was just ignorant.

Gunbot, I like the fact that DL is at least trying to stay relevant. They lip too, Neal told me so, lol.

Jana, you are woefully uninformed of Tapegate. What they did was despicable and the idea originated from the top of the food chain. Augeri was sacrificed. Hell, you think they are "brothers?" They could care less about him, Deen included. I wish you all could know what I saw and heard from their very lips. Disgusting.

I never said it was a bad show, just said it wasn't the best I've seen them do. I the 13 shows I've now seen this wasn't top 5 but still a great show.
I was sitting at the balcony and the sound there wasn't as good as in some of the youtube vids I've now seen.

rdekker wrote:Tonights show in Amsterdam wasn't the best i've seen, Arnel'voice sounded ggod but his timing just wasn't right. Ross and Neal also looked irritated about that a few times. Setlist:

Majestic
Seperate Ways (new arrangement)
Never Walk Away
Onlly the Young
Ask the Lonely
Stone in Love
After all these Years
Change for the Better
Neal Jon acousstic and hharp intro
Wheel in the sky (cut short imo)
Lights
What I needed
Jon intro
Open Arms
Mother Father (Een vocals and best song of the show)
Wildest Dreams
Escape
Faithfully
Don't stop believing
Any way you want it
encore:
Lovin Touching Squeezin
Be Good to yourself

Heineken Music Hall was close to sell out but band - crowd interaction was nowhere as good as 2006 and 2007 shows in Holland.

Sounds good to me and looks like the fans are loving it. At least the Youtubes tell the truth, vs listening to someone's opinion.

Arnel is making these songs into his own, and he's doing a damn good job of doing it. 1:15 esp I like the new spin he's putting on the notes. This guy is turning the dirty dozen into something fresh. I love what he's doing.

 He has no other choice. He can't measure up to the original, so he's changing them up. Can't blame him. If a person followed Superman, he'd have to learn to fly in a different way.

Can't blame Pineda for this. If the band had any balls, they would drop most of the perry tunes and let Arnel sing his own songs. That will never happen. As for the dirty dozen, they should never play all those songs every night. My God, don't they get tiring? Mix it up a bit. I think Pineda is cool. If I were him, I would also put a spin on some of the classics and maybe add some ad libbing..This same set list is ridiculous.

I would love to see Journey pull a Bruce and take sign requests...bet they couldn't pull it off. That shows pure musicianship and talent. Playing the same old shit night after night challenges no one.

Looks like they're rocking out. I guess it's not about the singer after all but rather the music.

JSS does command attention though.

Yesterdays gig was done in high speed by the band, no breaks in between where band members said anything to the crowd, hard to say but previous shows I've seen there was much more chemistry between the band and the audience, maybe it was me beause i wasn;t anywhere near the stage.

Well, Pineda doesn't exactly give the appearance of a band leader when compared to someone of Jeff's stature. No interaction would suck though, it's like going through the motions so you can go home.

To be fair, Lori did say that Neil and Arnel were both sick, an excuse we're hearing all too frequently when ever a performance doesn't seem up to par.
