But Arnel can "give so much of himself to us" NOW and it's okay to bash him? Glad I have the rules.

When was the last time someone said they hope Arnel fails? When was the last time Arnel was called a douchebag?
Be fair dude, Arnel bashing is pretty much in the past. If you're talking about Neal and Jon, that's one thing, but, with the exception of a few posters, Arnel has been off limits for some time now in this forum.

Just to clarify, this has nothing to do with the thread we are talking about, I thought like others it wasn't over the line and was all in good fun.

Hey GB- Well, I think it's a double standard. I didn't see the thread as it was yanked. My comment was more to the quoted comment above which I see a lot of, mostly from women and one who I can't seem to determine what they are. The guy was in the limelight and is not immune to attacks whether warranted or not. That's part of the celeb game. It sounds like this Perry thing was just in jest and Andrew pulled it. oh well, another of the same type of thread will start in like 2 minutes...

But with AP, SO many threads are started JUST to make sure that Perry's version or contribution or looks or whatever... are put above Arnel's. Gee, no shit. Perry was the originator. We know and everybody here respects Perry. Doesn't mean that some of us can't move on and enjoy what's happening with Journey now. But every time there's a positive post on new Journey, some Perry or Augi or JSS person comes in and whizzez all over it. EVERY post (no matter how off the topic) become an excuse for some to go "well, he's no steve perry" or whatever. I've seen several of the same kinds of posts lamenting the fact that every post becomes a singer challenge post. It's making the forum suck. Your statement of "AP's kind of off lmits" [paraphrasing]- I don't see that at all.

Not sure why everyone feels the need to constantly defend Perry at all costs. He's got nothing more to prove.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Well the Steve Perry Forum didn't go over too well so why would that?

There was an SP forum?

There was, but somehow dividing the fan base led to 'excursions' to the each other's forums to start shit. Then it would get bloody.

I was the one who started it, and I had no intentions of bashing Perry. I am one of the biggest Perry loons out there, and I am usually quick to defend him when others bash him. It was more like a roast as you said, all in fun. However, it did get a little hostile towards the end due to people taking it the wrong way, so I guess it had to be locked up.

Very, very well put post Jubilee. The SP Picture Caption thread you referenced said similar things in it, some even worse and it continues on for 5 pages without ever being locked. And surprise, surprise - some of the very people that are protesting the loudest over the SP Blog thread, participated in that caption thread. So I guess there are different standards as to what is acceptable and what is not depending on who does the posting.

That thread was from January though... since then, Andrew has asked that a lot of things come to an end, including disrespect for band members (past & present) as well as disrespect between members, and I saw both in that blog thread. I think that might be the point of locking it.

I can agree that things were starting to get a little chippy among posters on the thread, but I really didn't see any disrespect of S**P (IMHO). Geez, if Andrew locked down every thread where our little dust-ups and kerfuffles happen, we'd have nothing left but threads with cat pictures.

Okay, granted due to the new "rules" the blog thread was subject to being locked at Andrew's descretion. One of the points I was trying to make was that if some people found this type of joking about Perry disrespectful, why didn't they express the same outrage back then in the caption thread instead of participating in the joke making?

Exactly! Just depends on who's doing it I guess. :?

So, I guess an Arnel blog thread is out of the question?

The individual appreciation threads didn't go over too well either if I remember correctly.

Out of respect for Tito, it was probably only right to nip the blogs in the bud.

I thought it was disrespectful and unnecessary, and I appreciate Andrew locking it and monitoring this forum
more diligently these days. It was Perry bashing which I know some people delight in, but I don't think Perry
deserves such disrespect after he has given so much of himself to us. :(

It was a little funny, but it was fun at someone else's expense (which most of the stuff around here is). :)

The thing about it is, that I see a double standard. If someone were to mention some of the kinds of things that are said about SP with regard to Arnel - physical characteristics, nationality, etc (and it has happened, the Portugese sausage lovers group or whatever it was!) then someone would be called a racist and things would go downhill fast.

We've gotta have a little fun around here, though. Let's just keep it light, and maybe have a 'roast' of all the members in the same thread. Perhaps then the thread might stay open and no one's feelings get hurt. Just an idea.

I guess ya had to be there in "real time" to appreciate the banter b/c I, for one, didn't interpret the thread to be mean-spirited, nor did I get that vibe from anything anyone else wrote or I wouldn't have contributed. "Roast" is an excellent word to use when describing the nature of that thread. I can't speak for the rest of the bunch, but I know I didn't mean anything disrespectful by any of my post & I managed to put out three responses in the short lived, one hour life of that thread. ..... but I'm just saying. :) Sometimes it's difficult to decipher the tone & intended message in someone's written words.

The problem is that it might start out as a funny roast but then after a few pages it turns into a slanderous mockery. I do understand Andrew's logic. Reminds me of the kegger parties of my youth that started out as fun but then landed a bunch of people in jail before the night was over. Pretty much the same principle that happens here.

I mean....you can call people cocksucker, pole smoker, limey, tell people to lick your dirty balls....tell them to dig out their crust infested chickletts.....but call someone an idiot, and your thread vanishes....yes, unclench. Hey, there's a novel idea....

um, I care. I am enjoying the remasters very much.

Ditto. And I only had one copy of Melody that I bought through the SPIN Fan club that is now gone. So if anything had happened to that and other great songs.............I would be without my favorite tune.

Yes, I could download it to my computer and upload it to my mp3, but I enjoy not having to use it now. I can just take care of that rare release and cherish it, while playing the more accessable tunes.

And the coolest thing is they are all compiled! Great music and great CD compilation. I love Can't Stop and that was not to be had anywhere, plus other tunes. I am glad he shared those songs with us.

Look at this 5,800-post mockery thread of Eddie Van Halen that HarmonyCentral.com (the largest online musicians forum owned by the largest online musical retailer MusiciansFriend.com) has allowed:

http://acapella.harmony-central.com/sho ... id=1238245

It has almost 6,000 posts of photochopped Eddie mugshots in it.

I'm not saying Andrew should adopt their standards... I'm just saying. I respect whatever his level of toleration is. HarmonyCentral is actually usually tighter on stuff than Andrew is. They delete threads left and right over there for even the most petty shit.
