OT: How's the new President doing?

Today I heard that Obama recently pissed off PETA by killing a fly and now something about the gays are hella pissed off at him. Is there any truth to any of this stuff?

Yes and yes. PETA can go fuck themselves, and the gays well, will have to suck it up- literally.

The honeymoon is over.

These next dozen weeks are going to be hard fought to see if he gets his health care initiative passed. I for one think it;s decades too late coming. I can't wait for all the nurses on this board(save 1), to come running in screaming that the quality of H/C will g down, blah blah blah.

Obama pissing off Peta was one of the best things he has done. Bout time! Great smack by the way! Like these people really care about a fly..............I can see them morning in their beds at night, if they overpopulated and crawled on them, their food, and in their noses and mouths. Flies are nasty, germ carrying bugs, and one being smacked is not going to endanger them in a longshot! Good for Obama.................

As for the Health Care deal.........prepare to pay.......Deano have you ever had Gov run health care? I have and it is shameful what they have done for our vets. Not to mention I have had them nearly kill me, and almost let my daughter bleed to death. To this day my back is messed up because they did not give me proper care. Military families sometimes have to wait 4-8 hours in emergency rooms for serious emergencies. I saw a boy who's hand was mangled and broken and they made him wait for 3 hours! It sounds good on paper. But it will be costly, and no guarantee it won't be badly run. So I am not so fond of Gov health care.

300 million+ people.....7K average cost per person (very low number)... = 2.1 trillion per year.

20% tax at least on everthing.

Long waits.

Doctors losing incentive.

Sounds like a typical Obama plan...let Government take care of you, and let you be indebted to the state.

Deano, I've been working as a Medicare/ Medicaid consultant to the nursing home industry since 1989. The amount of hoops the government makes providers jump through and the paperwork is staggering. All the government does is keep adding more and more requirements. Now don't get me wrong, if it wasn't for the the government and their convoluted systems I wouldn't have this job, but you know, I think they should clean up our existing health programs, cut waste and save Social Security, before they add new inefficient programs not to mention costs that will just add to our already mind boggling deficit. The Feds don't save money, they increase costs due to increased regulations and paperwork. And before you go gettin' your undies in a bundle, I'm not a Republican and I have no ax to grind with Obama.

Aww, here come the talking points.

Eric wrote:300 million+ people.....7K average cost per person (very low number)... = 2.1 trillion per year.

Firstly, where did you get 300 Million people? The goal is to insure the uninsured. That total is somewhere between 40 and 50 million.

20% tax at least on everthing.

Oh well. The people who have health insurance have been enjoying a tax free ride with regards to insurance.

Long waits.

Blah blah blah. Horseshit.

Really? Who says? What incentive? To practice medicine on everyone who requires it, or just the rich and insured?

Sounds like a typical Obama plan...let Government take care of you, and let you be indebted to the state.

Health Care should be an alienable right, and especially in a rich nation as the US. Cubans, yes those smelly melon eating sonsofbitchen Cubans, have better health care than the US provides.

So what is it Obama exactly wants to do for Health Insurance?

Is he making everyone able to have "free" health care by raising taxes? Or have I missed the point completely.

No different then HMO , or managed care systems,Emergency room waits have been 4- 8 hrs for awhile, doesn't happen just to military. Its been a huge complaint by many patients for years.Even staff who go to there own hospital wait up to 8 hrs to be seen, depending on how they are triaged and how busy it is at that hospital.(professional courtesy has pretty much dissolved in the last 10 years)

The government requires "hoops to jump through" because of the few asshole thieves who try to circumvent the system and cheat it.

Clean up existing health care? Firstly, there is no existing health care and secondly, Obama has said saving social security was a priority. George W Bush was the guy who did nothing about health care, turned his back on the biggest Veteran's hospital(Walter Reed), and wanted to privatize social security.

The Feds don't save money, they increase costs due to increased regulations and paperwork. And before you go gettin' your undies in a bundle, I'm not a Republican and I have no ax to grind with Obama.[/quote]

Regulations are a good thing(see the word "bailout"). Regulations are in place to provide safety and prevent cheating. And if you would take the time to maybe read, or listen to Obama speak on this issue, one of the strong points is to eliminate paperwork and go all electronic doctor records, which makes things, easier, cheaper and more efficient.

Wants to provide insurance for the uninsured, and streamline the system in general. The medical lobbyists are obviously against this, as are most republicans, because frankly, they and their constituents already have insurance so why should they give a shit about anyone else? All I know is what I experianced....................And what I still deal with due to negligence today..............the waits are not the issue. Poor care is. I would be dead today if it were not for a caring radiologist who risked his career to talk against the doctor who was over my case. My gallbladder had almost ruptured........the doctor wanted to send me home with Malanta.

They left my herniated disc untreated. Makes it difficult for me to get jobs that require any lifting.

Don't get me started on what they did to my teeth.

My daughter had an IV that was leaking blood down the floor, when I got there a nice puddle had formed, and no one was checking on her. She was 7 years old. She had just had surgery. I had to get someone over there, and when I told them, no one was in a hurry to correct the issue.

I have just worked with a person from Holland and had dinner with a couple from Germany and they have similar horror stories. Not to mention I live across the pond from Toronto and have friends who, while not entirely in agreement, mostly bemoan they quality of care they get.

So wait. You first say there is 300 million people to insure and I correct you and say there is between 40 and 50 million. So now you come back in here strong with admitting there is only "46" million to insure? Which is it, Eric?

Secondly, the families who make over 50K aren't really choosing not to- they are making a choice between food on the table and gas in the car or health care. Families simply cannot afford health care at all, that's why the simply go to ER's and don't pay. Can't say I blame them. Now, if these families you speak of, families that play work hard and play by the rules had insurance, they wouldn't have to use the ER as a doctor's office, thus allowing the ER to be used how it was intended to be; for people with emergencies.

So me wanting better health care here at home, and correctly pointing out that a communistic island has better H/C than America, I should move there? Not a very strong argument. Might I suggest you go fetch that retarded little fucker in Kentucky to help you debate this.

I don't have medical insurance.........I pay cash. I get the doctor I want, and he takes my finances into cosideration. He gives me reduced cost meds when he can, or samples. Some doctors are understanding to folks and are trying to help those who are trying tomake ends meet and struggle. Fix the real problems. Don't make more problems.

You're going into battle with this argument? Jesus Christ.

How many doctors do this? A few? Some? many? Maybe, but certainly not all. You say pay cash. That's great. However, there are millions here who don't even have cash, ie, disposable income. Also, there are doctor's who won't even take cash, and insist you must have insurance.

Now you say "Some doctors are understanding to folks who are trying to make ends meet and struggle." Ok, but that constrasts sharply with Eric who says "doctor's lose incentives." Which one is it?

This is a perfect example to what Youkeepmewaiting commented on above. Those who do have insurance don't know what it's like for people who don't have any insurance.

A lot of doctors, probably almost all, would rather provide a cash discount than deal with insurance companies. But what if you are in a serious accident or have a serious illness?

Pipe Dream.

So a car crash victim with a bill of 130,000 dollars will have his bill reduced to what, 100,000? Hell, ok, let me get my checkbook.

While doctor's might not like the headaches of insurance claims, it is simply unfathomable to consider a pay as you go type cash plan.

I am not going into battle at all.......that is your stick. I don't battle because it is fun. I am telling you I have had your Goverment care and it was a constant battle and nightmare. I am not saying we don't need to fix the system. And I did not say what I have to do is a sollution. But I am telling you I know more than most of you about not having it. Still I don't think Gov run care is going to solve anything. So basicly acting as if I don't have anything at stake over this problem is crap. I have plenty. And I know more about the need than many here who yell the loudest for Gov run health care. I also have experianced it for 10 years as a patient. So I think my thoughts on the subject is just as relivent as any of yours.

You are calling me vile and reprehensible? I am not the one swallowing a sword and getting on all fours. That would be you.
