INTERPRET JOURNEY LYRICS

Speaking of lyrics, in DSB, the line - "A singer in a smoky room..." I still think a better lyric (which a lot of people do incorrectly sing) would be "I seen her in smoky room." I think it fits the story/song better. If I ever get a chance to met a Jon Cain again, I'm gonna ask him about that and that they might have missed the boat on the line. Fortunately, the song has still done ok for them.

see you interpret this:

"Sent a letter on a long summer day
Made of silver, not of clay"

Well I seem to remember wheel in the sky is based of a poem written by Ross's wife Mary. I am almost positive that I read that in Time 3... Cocaine is a hell of a drug lol

Ugh probably something to do with the commitment of the words... blah blah blah lol

Ok dokey your turn.....

No surrender dont come easy
We try to get over... over
Everybody feels the rain
fallin together... together

is he talkin about divorce?

Possibly... That whole song is a trip to me but i absolutely love it!

nah. That song is probably the most political, if you will, song they ever did. It's clearly about race and that we are one - the human race.

It's not one of the most political it's one of the most spiritual...
My interpretation is:

When we ignore the great spirit....either deny the existence or choose not to feel the presence of God...
instead of doing God's will we do our own.....we try to get over on God...like in doing things without thinking of consequence....
and we try to get over on ourselves...don't take a good honest look at ourselves....not honest about our indiscretions..too often making excuses for our actions or blaming someone else for them...kidding ourselves out of responsibility...
everyone falls...makes mistakes.. but we need to be honest and own up to them...be real with ourselves and each other
....and although we can fool ourselves and others we can't fool God...or inevitably anyone else or our own conscience..
..sooner or later we will be seen for who we really are behind our pretenses regardless of how much we try to kid ourselves that we are hidden behind the masks we put on.....

(oh...and by the way, SchonRulesAll.....the line you wrote " everybody feels the rain" is not in the song. )

understanding life is not simple .. as the saying goes..."ignorance is bliss'
..yes it may be simplier to remain ignorant but it's still remaining ignorant ...blissfully unaware is just that...unaware..or in other words...putting blinders on and remaining uneducated doesn't mean that whats there to be seen is not there.

And to take it further, this is what recovery from addiction is all about. Surrender is the most crucial thing and the most difficult in recovery. Several songs on that album are heavy into recovery. For example, Trial by Fire, Easy to Fall, Colors of the Spirit are all recovery based.

Yes, I agree thats probably a big part of it...maybe an effort to try to get centered....find themselves again ...being honest with themselves of where they had been...ownership of actions,...to " come clean" if you will....and in seeking a deeper understanding..and in recognizing spirituality....and the ties that bind or weave between all. Some degree of soul searching went on in the writing process. Lyrically between FTLOSM and TBF..it seems Perry was doing a lot of soul searching for a while....getting deeper in trying to understand himself as well as others... and getting in touch with spirituality......maybe coming from some place that combined with Cains spirituality... at least on TBF in the writing process....maybe others in the group contributed a few things lyrically as well at the time...who knows.

Not that I think there's any real danger of that line ever being changed, but, I really don't think it does fit better. I always thought the song was a series of little vignettes (small town girl/city boy both get on a train going "anywhere") as told from the perspective of the "singer in a smokey room" who sees all these people passing through, each with their own stories to tell. It never occurred to me that the small town girl and the city boy ever even met each other - they're just two different people with similar stories (the movie never ends, it goes on, and on, and on, and on).

Either way, I guess you're right, looks like the song has done okay for them.

The only indication we have that Shakespeare might have been gay comes from the sonnets. In the early sonnets, Shakespeare writes about his great love, who happens to be a young man. While many people assume this to mean that he had a male lover and thus was either gay or bisexual, there are others who still believe that his male friend was not his lover but someone who was simply very close to him emotionally.

I always wondered what the lyrics to Missing You by Steve Perry mean. Anyone know what the secret was? :?

I was so wrong
The secret's not worth keeping
I had no faith
That you would still believe

No, now
My heart's in your keeping
Here I am
Missing you
(Missing you)

Fear in the dark
Stares from my wall
Your eyes in your picture
Won't let me go
If I could remember
How you felt the pain
The king of pretenders
Alone in shame

I was so wrong
The secret's not worth keeping
I had no faith
That you would still believe

No, now
My heart's in your keeping
Here I am
Missing you
(Missing you)

Fear in the dark
Stares from my wall
Your eyes in your picture
Won't let me go
If I could remember
How you felt the pain
The king of pretenders
Alone in shame
That song is Steve's amends to Sherrie for his part in the demise of their relationship, just as Anyway was his amends to the guys in the group for his part of the insanity. I have my theories about what the secret is, but don't know. Awesome song though, the emotion is incredible. IMO, Sherrie was Steve's one true love.

Tito wrote:Speaking of lyrics, in DSB, the line - "A singer in a smoky room..." I still think a better lyric (which a lot of people do incorrectly sing) would be "I seen her in smoky room." I think it fits the story/song better. If I ever get a chance to met a Jon Cain again, I'm gonna ask him about that and that they might have missed the boat on the line. Fortunately, the song has still done ok for them.

You're wrong. If they did that, they would change the view from third person to first person, and back again...which is something you do not do in writing.
