Ross Valory Bankrupt Question

Postby youkeepmewaiting » Thu Jun 25, 2009 2:46 am

I remember briefly reading a while ago that after Perry fired him he went bankrupt. Is this true?

I dont know why I'm bothered, just wanted to know.

That dastardly Perry did it again? I don't know if he really had that much to do with Ross' bankruptcy cause when you make that much money it takes a whole lot of debt over quite a few years for things to go kaput!

Ross spoke about it on the director's cut of VH1's Behind the Music. I don't remember all of the specifics, but I do remember something about him losing the family home that was passed down through a few generations, or something along those lines.

I remember hearing something like that, however, IIRC, Herbie Herbert said in an interview that he made sure Valory (and Smitty) were paid full shares during that time. Seems to me the bankruptcy occurred after the TBF fiasco when everyone was counting on there being a tour, but the band had to return certain funds when they were unable to fulfill their obligations.

I dunno, one of our MR "Historians" will have to clarify. :D

If Ross was living paycheck to paycheck, he's got a lot more demons than Steve Perry to blame for his financial woes.

The timeframe was before TBF. I don't remember if the financial woes kicked in immediately after the Frontiers tour or after the ROR hiatus, but it was definitely before TBF. I'm thinking between '87 and '91, before he joined The Storm.

Maybe if he's still having financial problems, he could ask for a government bailout.

Now I understand why Ross seemed so bitter towards Perry on the VH1 BTM show. He was counting on a big TBF tour to pull his ass out of the poor house, and it didn't happen. Plus Perry fired him for ROR, so I guess Ross had valid reasons to be bitter.

I don't think Ross's finances are anyone's business but his own.

Maybe he should have asked his BROTHERS for a helping hand. Seriously, The guy is a professional musician who was coming off of his band's biggest successes with Escape and Frontiers. Even if he didn't get paid for ROR (which is not the case, according to HH), he has to be responsible enough to have a reliable accountant. Considering he doesn't get songwriting royalties, he should have been even more prudent in his own finacial matters. He only has his self to blame, like the rest of us do when we don't plan accordingly.

No, when the rest of us "don't plan accordingly" we ask Obama to step in and save us with the people's money.

He openly discussed it on BTM. There's nothing wrong with discussing what he openly spoke about, as long as people don't get carried away with drumming up their own conclusions....not that this would happen here....

He openly discussed it on BTM. There's nothing wrong with discussing what he openly spoke about, as long as people don't get carried away with drumming up their own conclusions....not that this would happen here....

Exactly the point.
The way I see it, the dude spoke his bit on the matter. Not much is open to speculation within proper reasoning. And I have my own money to manage, no offense to Mr. Valory.
