My first question is ,why would michael do this unless he knew he would die before paul McCartney. McCartney is 67 years old.

Thank God. I was wondering about that.

That's not anything unusual. When people are making out wills, they'll often set up something for someone who in a logical sense they should outlive, I'm sure in the event that Sir Paul had passed before Michael that there was something else in place to default the catalog to someone else.

yeah, until your dilusiona and your daughter gets you to change your will at the last minute to write your other sister off.

It is completely base to speak ill of the dead. And to speak ill of a deceased man you never knew and choose his passing as a moment to hop on a ideological platform (not that I don't agree people who hurt kids should rot in hell, I do agree) and drag his name down unnecessarily is heartless.

Frank, T... you guys should feel ashamed. Cut the man some slack. It doesn't matter now anyway. He's dead, God will sort him out either way the story goes.

Give me a fuckin' break. I hate that when someone was a lifetime jagoff and then he dies and all of sudden, "Oh, he was good person. He was nice. He did this and this." Fuck them. If they were a jagoff, when they die they're still a jagoff.

Although MJ may not have been a jagoff per se, he was and still is a piece of shit.

My ass. Whatever they did wouldn't warrant dancing on their graves.

Lets put this another way. If you didn't know who he was and he just an average, normal (for lack of better word) citizen. Would want to live next door to someone who looked like that (You can't tell me if you had a next door neighbor who looked like that, you wouldn't think they weird and quite frankly gross you out) and acted the way he did? Would you let your kids hang around him?

On any other day I would argue you on this, but not today. We were also talking about how as the news networks are covering this, the vast majority of the talk is his courtroom days, weird behaviour and criminal charges levied against him. When George Harrison passed away, you didn't hear anything negative. When Lennon passed away it was all good talk. When McCartney goes, or Bruce passes, it will be big like this but I doubt you will hear any negative talk like you are seeing now. It's quite sad that he is going out with a multitude of question marks.

Because as much as I don't care that much for the others you mentioned, to my knowledge they didn't do anything wrong and with the possible exception of Lennon, none of them are/were weirdos.

As far as the talk of MJ's courtroom days, weird behavior, etc. That's basically been the bulk of the story the last 20+ years. Approximately 1/2 of his career and the most recent half at that.

Someone I know twittered about this:

Had Michael Jackson been a garbage man or a lawyer or a train conductor.....who had been dragged into court more than once on child molestation and had settled out of court multiple times on the same charge, his Obit would NOT be:

"He was such a great garbage man (or lawyer or train conductor)." In fact there would be no obit, because his despicable actions towards children would be such an overpowering issue...that it would generate such contempt and malice that the rest of his life contributions would pale in comparison. As it should.

Hitler was a lover of art and music...and collected several priceless pieces. Does his obit reflect any of that? or more appropriately should it?

My concern throughout this thread and all of my mental energy put into this since he was found dead of a demoral overdose yesterday is simply out of concern for the children he violated.

I don't remember saying he was a good person.
Now, this strikes a funny note of reasoning here... a lot of people say that Neal and Jon are bad people and they're "jagoffs", but you defend them as good people. And by all means, 99% of us here have no intensive personal interaction on which to base such a judgement about them. They could be good or bad people. Now you're saying MJ was a "jagoff" and while he may have been (and if a small hint of the allegations hold any truth to them then he was a disgusting person), you don't have anything personal to base that on so you are just as much in the wrong as the "Friga is gay" jokes. Think about it.

I don't know or care if he was a good or a bad person, I just think it's rude to badmouth someone the day they die. It's a human life lost, with a family that loved him and is in mourning. No one is in danger of forgetting all the chaos and controversy that his life held. But most of us are thinking about playing our "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" records... or when Fox debuted "Black or White" right before the Simpsons came on. Or staying home one hot summer day to watch the world premier of that "Scream" video on MTV.

Make no mistake, the man for better or worse was an intensive part of our culture for a long time.

(And I don't care, Allah, Jehovah, Yaweh, God, Buddha, Zeus... whoever. Same principle.)

He was a kind person to the point of being childlike. One of the things that bothered him more than anything was that the neighbor parents told all their kids to stay away from him 'cause he "might" be a child molester. The guy was basically a child himself and liked being around kids 'cause he felt more comfortable with them than adults.

He had no money, but if he was worth millions, what do you suppose would've happened?

If you are a parent, why would you let your kid hang around a person in their 20s (regardless of his epilepsy). I'll give you people this, the parents who let their kids hang around MJ deserved to be ballbatted too. Especially, after they knew about his history.

Precisely my feeling today.

We all know that the last 10-15 years were a total downward spiral for him - and very true, no one is in and danger of forgetting that.

But before all of that happened, back in the day when the oddnes was limited to having exotic pets, being shy and quiet, and having just one nose job, there was a lot of music that I enjoyed very much. I played Thriller over and over when I was 7 and 8 years old. I sat in front of the TV watching the music video channel, playing with my Legos, waiting for "We Are the World" to play (because it was on 16 times a day)... and I waited for the shots of Michael (and yes, I very specifically recall wishing they would show the 'Oh Sherri' guy more often because "he's so cute!" )... it was part of my childhood so it's a good memory for me.

And that's why I played Thriller in the car this morning, and will play it again on the way home.

+1
They were doing it because they were hoping for a settlement. The later accusations of Jackson pedo-predator actions were likely money grabs....but I HIGHLY doubt they weren't baseless...

The truly incriminating accusations are the ones that initially happened in the early 90s. The ones (that we know of) that were settled out of court, were as good as a conviction in my eyes, tito's and PLENTY of others out there....

They did drag up some people from under a rock during the coverage. This one probably topped it off. They must have had a real big falling out (Hey quick grabbing me. I'm not a kid anymore.) if they couldn't make up after 9/11.

What a strange coincidence - I just bought the CD 'Thriller' last week. I wasn't a fan, but there were some great songs on it that are part of the soundtrack of my youth.

To those who keep making accusations, they should consider that there is a difference between being weird or suffering mental problems and being guilty and the speculations of what he "might" have done or how many he "might" have paid off are ridiculous. He was 50 years old and if he were predisposed to that type of behaviour, probability states that he would have numerous victims who are now adults and some would have spoken out, money be damned.

He had two accusers on record and both were demonstrated to be motivated by a monetary settlement - the last one had a mother who was a career con who set up "accidents" or altercations at stores and sued, until she got caught for fraud. And she used her son in her scams - I saw part of their testimony on TV and it wasn't even a challenge for MJ's lawyer to trip up the different stories they had given. Many of you are parents and I am sure that if someone molested one of your children, no amount of money would make you turn a blind eye and keep quiet, but not one parent of any of the numerous victims some of you are alleging MJ to have ever fought for their child? What are the odds of that? I believe in severe justice against child molesters, but I also believe there should be solid proof beyond reasonable doubt.

I believe he was a deeply scarred human being with questionable judgment, but unless someone has more evidence than "maybes" or credible witnesses come forward, I'm not joining the hanging party. Perhaps now that he is gone, more people who truly knew him will feel free to speak openly and we may know more of who he really was. Lisa Marie Presley once said he was nothing like his public persona. I was sad to see the MJ of the 80s turn into the character he became later in life, but I'm going to choose to remember him as he was in his glory days.

If you believe that, then shame on him for putting himself in that position...on way too many occassions.

Why did you do that? There are at least a half a dozen stations playing Michael marathons today and others mixing his songs in their playlist (that don't normally do). Believe me, you could put the MJ catalog away for at least a week. You'll be hearing enough on the radio for awhile. On a related note, I'll say one thing, even thought it was just his videos, it was good to see music videos on TV at night like there use to be.

Jeff pays tribute to MJ. :(

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=122623

Legendary vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (TALISMAN, JOURNEY, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) has issued the following statement regarding the passing of pop music legend Michael Jackson, who died yesterday (Thursday, June 25) at age 50:

"Every day the world mourns over the loss of a loved one, a relative, even a pet...but it's not every day the whole world mourns over a single person like they were a loved one or blood relative.

"On Thurday, June 25, 2009, we lost an icon, a legend, a superstar named Michael Jackson.

"I don't think there is a man, woman or child over 5 years old in the world who doesn't know the name Michael Jackson. This in itself is an achievement that is rarely attainable anymore but it shows this man was known for better or worse (in my book, always better; the negative side of his life was always something I always chose to ignore as the MUSIC blanketed this) by EVERY person in the 21st century, and he will be remembered through his music and his legend.

"Of all my childhood memories, many of them included buying my first 45 single (yes, that would be a small 8" vinyl platter called a 'record'!) of the JACKSON 5's 'I Want You Back' to standing in front of a mirror at the ripe age of 5 with a spoon in my hand, pretending it was a microphone and singing at the top of my lungs to every word little Mike was belting out. When my brother Joey and I were about 7 and 8, we would draw crowds at the local boys club of NY as the song 'Rockin' Robin' would be blasted on a record player. Joey would pound on benches/tables as they were percussive instruments while I crooned along to the alto notes of Michael's version. They called us the 'TWEET TWEET BROTHERS'. if you know the song, you'd understand why :)

"Last night, I was witnessing the birth of a new supergroup, an amazing incarnation called CHICKENFOOT (featuring the eternally youthful Sammy Hagar, the baddest bass pounder Michael Anthony, the untouchable Joe Satriani and the mischievous Chad Smith) performing in London — an energetic and amazing evening — only to be flattened by the news of what was happening in Los Angeles simultaneously.... A night to remember indeed!

"Today and forever, I celebrate the music and the influence of Michael Jackson.

"Long live the King Of Pop, long live one of my few mentors of the mic.

"RIP, Michael!"

Simple. Because I wanted to hear what I wanted to hear and in my time frame. If the radio isn't giving me the tracks I want, I can play them myself, without having "Billie Jean" cut off by some reporter stationed outside the LA Medical Examiner's office talking about "remains" and "cardiac arrest" and what Jermaine is doing this morning.

Tito,

You made your point. Would you at least have a little respect for the people in this thread that want to talk about MJ in a positive light ? I dont believe in sugar coating things myself. If someone was an ass while they lived then they are probably an ass when they died. Now that he is dead however it is meaningless. MJ had a huge and positive impact in the lives of MANY. Honestly I could care less what is said about him however the people that do care and want to talk about it deserve that without having to wade through the negative stuff. Some are grieving about it. I cant understand that but as a logical human being I understand what is proper in those situations. Have some class in otherwords.

If you dont like MJ and have nothing positive to say about him then please leave this thread and start your own then so that others that feel as you do can talk anyway you want. Dont sugar coat how you feel but at least have some respect for those that do not share your opinion of the man.

Thanks.
