Great. Well After watching this clip, I accidently had my speakers turned off... I came to the following conclusion. From best to worst front man - Now I am not talking vocals here either, I am talking the stage presence, commanding the audience and the moves, the dancing, working the microphone.

1. Steve Perry
2. Steve Augeri

And, somewhere in a galaxy far far away...

3. Arnel Pindea- just watch Arnel with the volume turned down, you'll see my point.

See your point? Nope. After watching a very short clip with no sound you came to that determination on him as a frontman? I certainly wouldn't pick one one-minute clip and use it to make that determination. I'm pretty sure I could go get one crappy clip of Steve P or Steve A without music for about a minute b/c I wanted to make some point, which I don't. I think I will stick with the body of work on stage with Arnel this whole year regarding his stage presence, which he's done a great job for the most part.

In their primes, I couldn't agree with you more. Never saw Perry in his early days. I saw Augeri on the Vacations Over tour and it was very similar to what I have seen from Arnel so far. Sometimes he doesn't do enough and sometimes it's too much. I am confident that he will find the sweet spot. Augeri found it on the Arrival tour. He did not quite have it on the 2001 DVD which was actually filmed in 2000.

I did and I don't see your point. So he's not doing enough during Neals guitar solo?

Well said.
It's a shame we never got a dvd when Augeri hit his stride.
He was at his peak during Under the Radar in 2002.
From 2004 on (I skipped the Main Event), he seemed subdued in comparison.

I wish this would have been a longer clip. There was another one posted from Spain I think, but the sound quality was very poor. I thought from what little I heard Arnel sounded good. I'm very anxious to hear how he sounds when the band writes some new tunes. I want to hear Arnel doing Arnel and not Steve Perry. He's got all the tools. I'd like to see him really establish his own identity as a singer and not just as the guy who sounds like SP. He deserves it.

Yet even the majority of Journey's own fans won't allow it to happen. What are the clips always appearing on youtube first? SW, DSB, AWYWI. The new songs, WIN, WDILYL, WD might show up but that's not the priority it seems. As well as Arnel sings the classics, he will never OWN them as people say. Those songs arent going to shoot back up the charts with Pineda's voice on them or start appearing in commercials with the Revelation version being used over the original. When DSB was used in Glee, no one asked Arnel what he thought about it. They asked Cain and Perry because they are the guys that made that song what it is. I don't even see the need to create another album to tell you the truth. The song most people enjoyed from Revelation, TDTWT never got released as a single, and doesn't get played in concert that often. The band seems happy paying homage to the legacy they already hold, Their is no need to create a second coming with Pineda. Unless he turns out to be a better songwriter than Diane Warren or Desmond Child, Journey's HOF nucleus remains Schon/Perry/Cain.
Just enjoy what the band is giving you now, the recipe has been the same for 20+ years. No need to get cute wth the formula. In this instance the people want classic coke, not new coke and that's what Journey is giving them. As someone else said a while back (I will paraphrase it), The opportunity given by Journey to front the band is Arnel's crowning achievement.
I agree with that sentiment. Don't expect anything else.

Yup. Perry was awesome. Then Arnel. Augeri just wasn't exciting on stage to me. Not an "in your face" kind of front guy.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Sadly, your probably right. However, Neal posting about writing new material while they are on the road really interested me. I don't know if AP ever wrote any of his own music. It seems he mainly sang covers, so at this point as a songwriter he is a blank slate. Although the possibilities are intriguing.

That's hilarious...measuring a singer's stage presence with the volume muted. This is Journey, not some group that needs a circus front man to get the crowd interested. First and foremost is vocal ability, and if the singer gets a bit into it during the performance, why not.

Very simple, the simple fact I actually laughed out loud when I saw the clip muted, that shouldn't happen. Arnel acts like a clown on stage, he looks absolutely and completely ridicules. Can't dance, can't work the crowed, and just looks self indulgent for the most part, in his own world. It's everything distant to what he should be, he's in Journey.

The simple truth is, you and the rest who replied are in denial.

Here's the problem. Every single singer Journey has had, and will have in the future will always be judged, being their shitty ability to command the crowed, broken English, who knows! but day in day, it's a proven fact - they should of never continued without Perry, plain and simple.

That's the truth pal, you want it, you got it.

Sorry, you are never going to successfully argue with a Perry loon. It's quite pointless. The reviews say different than Vlad's take on things. Thousands of people enjoying Journey? According to Vlad's point of view, this simply cannot be....yet it is. Every forum needs a buttlicking Perry sycophant or two.

Vlad=Part of a very Vocal Minority
The fans that keep buying tickets to go to the shows outnumber them EASILY.

Ridiculous how such a great band can have such a polarizing effect.

Seems like you have a bigger issue going on than just what Arnel looks like in a 60 second muted clip. Take it up with Neal. But you might want to stop telling people what they should think and what they shouldn't. You come off looking pretty immature, especially when you are trying to make a larger point.

What you are seeing on the comments section of youtube are retaliation to the insults thrown at Arnel before he was even officially announced as lead singer of Journey.

If you're gonna talk about "broken English", be sure you know how to spell. Arnel has an excuse; English is not his first language. What's yours?

Okay, this made me laugh.

Making bullshit claims and declaring victory whilst retreating?

'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

I've always wondered why Pineda doesn't talk to the crowd more. He yells out once in awhile but doesn't appear to engage them like Soto or Perry did. Those who have seen Perry know he plays to the crowd, talking about songs and such, getting the crowd worked up before certain numbers. Is Arnel shy or is it just that he doesn't know enough about the history of the songs that limits in his speech on stage? As far as the jumping around, as long as he doesn't come off sounding out of breath, I guess it's okay but David Lee Roth is really the only one that could get away with making that stuff look spontaneous, doing Scissor kicks and leaping off of amplifiers.
That said Arnel is an excellent singer and once he actually has songs that he has contributed to the group, he'll probably be more able to engage the crowd when it comes to talking about the origins of certain tunes or just other sings in general.

But Please Arnel, give up on tossing the mic. That was Soto's signature move, not yours. When you dropped it and had to chase it down last year at the Greek, it was comical but not in a good way.
You looked like a five year old kid trying to catch a bullfrog. Sitck to the singing part and you'll be alright.

Why is it only Soto's signature move and not Arnel's also? Who are you to say it's not his? I doubt Arnel even saw a clip of JSS there were so few of him on tour. Arnel was once asked by one of his fans how he never dropped it, and he said he's been doing that since he was young, which is very evident with the ease in which he does it. He didn't drop it in the concert I went to, nor in the hundreds of clips I've viewed. If he dropped it a lot, then I would agree.

Re your other opinions, I have no argument with that, as long as he's not out of breath I don't care, and pretty much agree with you re communicating with the audience. In time he probably will more.
