I have a small frame purple diamond back but just picked up a Yellow repro Stingray on Lakers weekend so its the Lakers bike.
It was all rusty & the seat dry & cracked so I refinished it (took off the rust & recovered the seat in black LEATHER...cool) & it looks pretty darn good if I say so myself & its a fun little bike like the ones I road in the 70's.
Single speed back pedal brake no frills & weighs 2 tons!!!!

The older model Schwinn Sting Ray and the Schwinn Scrambler are classic bikes. That bike might be worth some coin once it's restored, Shadow.

Hey girl, ecofriendly and all! I like living. Riding a bicycle is a bit dangerous in the city. We don't have good drivers here. A car is barely safe enough! Cool bike though! :D

You are correct but unfortunately the serial number seems to suggest it's a late 90's reproduction & the real stingrays good ones I've seen them go for astronomical figures.
One on ebay hit $9000 or so & didn't even hit the reserve.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... tsupported

You can' hardly find a good original for under $400.

I thought this was a 70's bike but upon closer research the serial number is from what I have been told one of the Schwinn repoductions & it was so bad when I got it I'm surprised they didn't pay me to take it but I felt sorry for it & it brought back memories.

Image

Hours went into it with 0000 steel wool & WD40 to scrub off the rust but its usable now & I use it for exercise as its better than a stationary bike in the gym.

I ride around really rural areas where there are few cars...we still have some nice areas in CA & I live in a nice area.
Darn if it was a speeded one I'd take it up to Mullholland but I'm afraid this bike won't take big hills as it rides like a bear but it was a fun experience & the bike has good use in iut now so I could resell it.

Pedals may have been there to start the bike but its a cool idea in case you run out of gas...

My uncle put a motor on a bike I think he might have even used a lawnmower motor but it worked.

I used to work for Toys-R-Us as a bike builder part time. I worked half a day on Friday, and all day Saturday & Sunday. One year from Thanksgiving to New Year's I built 476 bikes...part time!

Shadow..... This is a very cool bike. Nice job on the retrofit! I have two bikes, a street 10 speed and a mountain bike. I turned my 10 speed into an indoor exercise bike
and I don't ride the mountain bike much. When I was a kid I loved my Stingray, wished I never sold it now after seeing yours............ :)

Why'd you do that? I hear Oregon has some great biking trails.

Here's another cool bike. $3,000 cool.

Oregon has great trails, that's what my mountain bike is for. In winter = indoor exercise bike. :)

Sigh... and I thought you meant something like this:

Sadly, mine is in pieces. Need to get off my arse and fix that.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

We've got a '79 Triumph Bonneville in pieces in the garage. Sigh... I wish my husband would either restore it or sell it. It make me sad to see a nice bike like that just sitting there. Someone should be riding and enjoying it. :(
