Andrew demonstrates an incredible amount of patience in dealing with the personalities in the Journey forum, though I have to say that calling him out on his own board is about as wise as telling Darth Vader what you think of his managing of the Death Star

Good luck in your PoliSci studies Gideon. If I could go back in time and change anything about my university days, I would get more involved - join clubs, go to games and enjoy being there, even in class at 8:30am. I focused on the school aspect and spent a lot of time staring at a study carrel, but I have few fond memories of those days and I should have many! I can't do anything about that now, but I encourage you to get away from the computer and really enjoy what a great experience it should be. And if they have a debate team, join it!

And when Steve Perry releases a new solo CD, I expect you'll be back. It will be too much temptation, eh? :P

Yeah, I've never understood the logic in arguing with the owner of the site. It's his to do with and manage as he pleases. We're all just guests here. That should be remembered.

While I don't think Andrew thinks of himself as the Darth Vader of this place, I do agree with the analogy. And while there seem to be many here that have expressed discontent with Gideon's departure, I'm kind of relieved. He's too fucking challenging and argumentative. I'm sure he's a nice kid, but he's exhausting. Message boarding is supposed to be fun, not work.

Gideon, if you're reading this, I love ya man, so don't take offense. I just don't get into the heavy debating stuff. I'm not nearly smart enough.

Good chocie of words Rick. He was completely exhausting in a negative way. And as gfar as I have seen, there have been no real complaints about his departure (once again).

That's right, this is his second exit.

I do think he's a damn good kid. As was posted before, he needs get a job where he can use his debating skills. He'll make millions.

He's gonna be lucky if he gets a job where he gets to debate "holding the pickles or the lettuce".... (seriously I wish him all the best)

Well, I for one hate to see Giddy go. I liked him on here. But that ending with the over-the-top arguing with you I don't agree with. it's your site and a member can make their points with your "rulings" so to speak and push the limits on expressing opinions and slipping in digs and even take vacations, like many on here have, if they want to push some remarks and points even further re a subject, but you don't go at it to the level he did with you as the owner of the site. Disrespectful to me. This isn't a democracy here.  But I do hope he calms down and comes back.

Although I don't think anyone is complaining about his departure, I do think there are those that wanted him to stick around. I agree he was exhausting at times. Well, most of the time. At some point you have to learn when you are just arguing to argue. Debating is one thing. But it takes two to debate, and I think a lot of the time Gideon went out of his way to somehow prove someone wrong when they said something he did not agree with. That is not debating. I do think he made some good points when he left, but ultimately they won't matter. They aren't going to change anything, and he should have been smart enough to realize that given his propensity for intellectual dialog, versus his need to grandstand for the sake of grandstanding.

Gideon always had to have the last word....and there was a lack of respect to the other poster. He needs to learn that people have opinions that vary...and that is okay....not everything is right vs wrong. He was just to over the top for me I come here for fun and information, and I found that for me he took all of the fun out of it.

Ignorance of youth, I suppose. The guy made some valid points at times. I’m not saying I agreed with what he said. I’m just saying he supported his arguments fairly well. Problem is, he knew nothing about timing & never seemed to realize when enough was enough. Whatever points he was able to make, he completely destroyed by his adolescent need to badger his victim through his incessant hunger to debate. Long after he had already made his point, he worked to drive it into the ground. Worse yet, if the person he was debating took a break from MR only to return a few days later, it’s like Gideon was waiting outside on the playground so he could beat them up for their lunch money. He never knew when to draw the line.

Ooh, I bet all of this negative discussion about Gideon is better than an orgasm for Andrew.

Keep it up, but be aware, he may start seizing soon from it. There is such a thing as too much fun for a man.

My sister has a cat like that. You can pet this cat for a long time and it loves it, then it goes into this over stimulated mode and attacks your hand.

From what I have read elsewhere, Gideon not only burnt his bridges with Andrew, he firebombed the entire forest. I believe his self initiated departure has become permanent, care of the Wombat.

You gotta understand, though, with that firebombing, he eradicated all care that he may have had left. It didn't seem like a big loss, imo.

Oh, I'm not doubting that. I was one of those always wondering why he was here debating with old fucks like us when he could be out enjoying life like other people his age.

That's true, but here's the mentality I hold on that:

The evening is *my* time. I, fortunately, have 7+ hours daily, when school is in session, to mingle and talk with my friends at school. Because of that, I have a pretty good balance. I'm sure he holds the same mentality.

I'm trying to remember what I used to do after school. See if there were any new videos on MTV, do homework, go out and socialize, eat dinner, go in the basement to shoot pool and listen to music, go out to joyride and smoke pot for a few hours and then go to bed. Of course, having the internet might have changed some of that.

+1

But for me you'd have to add after the word "hours," eat a jar of peanut butter with nothing but my fingers then later gripe, "Who the hell ate all the peanut butter?" b/c I was so stoned I couldn't remember it was ME. Ahhhh.... youth.

Your teenage life looks a lot like mine, except we hung out at the bowling alley also and played arcade games or went to kegger parties. Then the military came calling and it was time to grow up. :D

Watched Leave it to Beaver reruns with the sound turned down, blasted Grand Funk Railroad from the stereo, ate Cheeze Whiz out of the jar with a spoon, and did my Trig homework on the phone with my boyfriend. All at the same time. :D
