New Perry Vocal Isolation (DSB).

Postby Liquid_Drummer » Tue Jul 07, 2009 7:57 am

Ive been looking for this one for a while and found a forum that posts a capella tracks. Well, low and behold I found this link.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EE47B77X

Pretty close to the Anyway you want it but you can hear some intruments on occasion. The crowd sound is because the source was the rock band game.

I checked and there are no more. Yet.

His voice cracks in the 1st verse. I never heard it before and the piano covered it up. Tape was expensive back then I guess.

That was really fucking cool! Thanks, dude. I didn't hear the cracking of his voice though. What part excatly did it occur?

And it's funny how you need all of the instruments to make the song come together. The vocal, like any of the other instruments isolated, seems like it's missing something.

The last drawn out "Anywhere" (right at the end of the word no biggy) before the guitar build up leading in to the 2nd verse.. Its at about :27 seconds in. The last oh in the song has a big rasp in it that I never heard before as well.. I am listening on a $1000.00 Harmon Kardon with really nice speakers so I hear detail. Amazing the difference between my old receiver and my new one with the same speakers. Hearing all kinds of details I didnt know were there in many songs.

Oh wow...he goes completely flat at the end of that word and it warbles out. Nice catch! And, yes, he's completely strecthed on the last note and at the end of his range. It sounds as if he's straining to some degree. But I don't really give a fuck. This is still one of the greatest songs of all-time. :) Thanks for those great observations, LD!

I think his voice was a bit tired. It doesnt take away at all and you never hear it in the song. I mean, Keep on Running is on the same album. Probably fatigue. Studios can rip you up if you spend to long in there !

Thanks man, that was AWESOME! It makes me want to take those tracks, and add my own keys to them. :D He was THE fucking man with his vocals, and I don't think we will EVER hear anyone else that can do what he did. Just freaking amazing!

The thing most people don't realize, is that back then everything was recorded on tapes in the studio. There WAS not pitch correction, or 100 takes to get a part right. Tapes cost money AND time, and bands back then did albums with very few takes.

Comparing him with todays musicians is just funny.

Thanks LD for posting this! I really love hearing SP's amazing, pure vocals.

It's funny - as soon as he sings "...he took the midnight train going anywhere", I always expect to hear him say "Neal..." to bring on the guitar intro. I've been listening to Journey's 'Escape' DVD playing while I'm on the computer and the live version is becoming more familiar.

That's funny....I did the same thing...I have the live Escape CD in my car and that's the one I listen to most...I am always waiting for SP to say Neal at that point of the song too.
