A brand new song for you to check out!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Tue Jul 07, 2009 10:52 am

Hey everyone,

I've been busy for the last day writing some new songs, and I decided I wanted to do something different that I haven't done before...

I have two sides to my music. I have one side that's very Survivor, Journey, Foreigner "ish", then I have another side that's more classical, Jim Brickman "ish" that's much more intricate and softer.

Anyway, I just wrote the music for a brand new song, and it starts out with a very modern "Classical" sound, but then moves into a more traditional melodic rock sounding song. I intend to have some stacked backing vocals (as I always do!), and I'm going to try to make this a more melodic song with a cool hooky chorus. I haven't added Synth pads or ANYTHING other than drums or bass, so it's very stripped down.

I just wanted to see what you think of it! I'm not sure if it'll fit with my new album, but if not...I guess I'll put it on a more classical album!

I hope you like it...

Thanks Rick! I'm glad you liked it. It is a little different from the stuff I usually post on here, but I think the outcome will be a pretty melodic song. As I said though...I don't know if this one will make it on the album or not. I could always change up the arrangement and make it MORE melodic. I guess I'll have to see how it pans out...

Thank you. I know it's a little softer than most of the stuff I post on here, but I think I can make it work for the album. I just wanted to show another side to my music.

I thought you hated my music?   I just talked to Alex and played him another brand new song that I wrote the same day as this one, and he said it's the best song I've ever written. I'm going to work more on that one over the next few days, and hopefully I'll be able to post it for you to check out. It's VERY uptempo, and Alex thinks there's hints of Toto in it. Anyway, thanks for the compliments.

  I just finished recording the rough scratch vocals to send to Alex tonight. I really think this is one of the absolute best songs I've ever written, and I can't wait for you to hear it! :D I'll have to listen back to the vocals I just recorded, and if they're not TOO bad...I may just post it here tonight so you can hear the whole song. I'll get back to you in a few.

Look here sassy-pants!  As per your request, but I have to say...the vocals SUCK! I'm not shy with my vocals, I just know they sound like shit on most songs...hence the need for a lead singer in my project!

I can't post the whole song because I have to wait until I send off the copywrite forms tomorrow. For the time being...you can check out the 2nd half of the song.

It's called "Take Me Away", and is a song I think most here will be able to identify with. It's about how the world has changed since we were kids. How you wish you could go back in time to those days when you hung out with all your friends, etc...

Anyway, here it is. Keep in mind that there's no backing vocals or guitars (other than my cheesy lead guitar) in there yet. It'll sound SO much better after Alex adds his magic touch!

And don't try to sue me if you start bleeding profusely from the ears.

Thanks Rick, I appreciate it. While I'm never going to be a lead singer, there are some songs that I sound better on than others. It depends on the key of the song. This version I posted WAS just me recording some rough scratch vocals for Alex. I could have cleaned that up a LOT. It still wouldn't sound as good as some other stuff I've done though, as it's just not in my comfort zone.

I'm glad you like it though, and you'll be hearing much more very soon. I told you I've been busy!

I'm a big fan of yours man, I think you know that. I'm always all ears. Absofuckinlutely keep me posted on your progress.

I have one piece of advice dude. Let go with your vocals. You sang this song like you had a potato in your ass. YOU HAVE A GOOD VOICE. Shut the fuck up with the "I know my limitations vocally" bs. Dude, you sing good when you let go.

I've heard you sing better, but I'm sure you were just putting things in place for Alex. Next time, sing your ass off. I've heard you do some damn good vocals.

I like that track bro.

So THATS why my ass was burning tonight! I thought it was just the tacos I had for lunch!  Again, I appreciate it. I swear to you that I'm not just saying that...I'm a VERY picky musician, and if I don't like something I can't let it go. I will NEVER be able to sing to my standards. Not trying to diss myself, but I'm just honest with myself. I would like to take vocal lessons someday, because I know it would probably help me a LOT. Until then, I'll stick to backing tracks.

Just sing your ass off next time and let us be the judge. I'll whip your damned ass.

If anyone is around when that event takes place. Please bring a ziploc bag to collect my teeth and the remnants of my ribs.

Rick, the worst I would ever do to you is buy you a beer!  Now a couple of the OTHER people that post here in MR... :D

I have a LOT of stuff on my plate right now. I have a week of vacation in August. If the old lady doesn't map that week out with activities, I could definitely fly my skinny ass out there.

WHAT???  Thanks for the compliment though Eric. Were you referring to the shitty vocals, or the song? I knew I should have waited until I had the song back from Alex before I posted it.

Well, I certainly can't say anything that even closely compares to the sappy, sentiments expressed through Rick's lovely critiquing  :P  but still your song sounds beautiful, Jim. You have a great talent.
