She's from my hometown and a former co-worker of mine dated her in high school. Lucky guy, huh?
AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!! Do you know what she was like in HS?
From what he told me, she was kinda shy and marched to her own drum like he did. And not to knock him at all, but he was a short, quirky little guy but with a great personality. A really thoughtful guy whose head didn't seem big enough to contain his mind. He's actually the guy that videotaped my horrible drunken karaoke "Separate Ways" about 5 years ago... LOL. I threw it up on YouTube as a joke for a while.
My step-sister still hangs out with some of the original band members. Anyway,
I have to give Amy Lee credit for really pushing a new sound forward, and they've had countless imitators. She's a hell of a talent.
I beg to differ....Within Temptation, The Gathering, After Forever, and Nightwish were doing it way before Amy Lee...if anything she commercialized an already established genre....Geirsbergen, Adel, Anette Olzon, and Floor Jansen, IMHO, have better voices....
It is a shame that Evanescence's success was not able to catapult the scene to the forefront in America. But what do you think that means? I happen to think that the scene was full of vocals that were too operatic for America. But now you see some of those bands (like Lacuna Coil and Nightwish) going in a more 'straight-ahead rock' vocal and they are gaining a little traction here while losing credibility with their existing fanbase. TI became an ENORMOUS fan of Evanescence and discovered the others because of their success. But I prefer Amy's earlier work pre-Fallen and evern pre-Origin. Her voice as taken a lot of abuse with the constant touring that Fallen required. She does not have the strength in her vocals anymore. But I still enjoy her music and her show. Sadly though, it really feels like the Amy Lee Band now. Without consistency they have faltered.
