Damn straight. DL was great in the 80's, hit n miss in the 90's and doing covers in the 00's.

Freddie's been gone almost 20 years and their music lives on.

some killer cuts

I think because Queens good songs were... great...it makes up for the million shoddy ones.

Why Def Leppard can even be used in the same conversation with Queen is mind boggling.

Freddie is 100 times the vocalist and front man than Joe could ever be.

Look, I like Lep...I like alot of their early stuff and really like a lot of their album cuts (non singles)

But Queen is in an a whole other league.

But like Andrew said, some folks get Queen, some don't.

One of the most original bands ever.

If Queen doesn't exist, Def Leppard doesn't either....and I think Joe Elliott will be the first to say such a thing.

I'm not going to dis the Leppers their due either....but to say that Def Leppard has a better catalog than Queen is just fucking lunacy.....Def Leppard had 2 great albums in their career...and a whole lot of bad ones.

Queen has an entire career of great albums. It's a difference. a big one.

Queen is one of those generational spanning rock groups. They had achieved monumental status in the 70s, 80s and 90s....and maintained that status with the help of Paul Rogers in this past decade.

Def Leppard, love em or not, never escaped the stigma of the 80s. They were hated in the 90s, and now, they're desperately trying to reinvent themselves as a 70s band. Kinda sad. When you think of someone trying to reinvent themselves, doing so with eyes to the past and not future, is always a recipe for failure...

To an extent, but a band that ran out of steam in my opinion. C'mon, I Want it All, Breakthrough et al... total crap. This might have been a better argument if I wasn't playing Faster Pussycat as i write this.

No one who can actually hear can possibly think, in terms of songwriting, that this is a patch on previous Queen songs. The fact that May burns it up all over the song, doesn't hide the fact that it is a crap song. If anyone else had released it it would have died a death. Now shut the fuck up and put Seven Seas of Rhye on.

Nah, that's one of my faves. I like all their albums though and there's only a couple of songs I skip out of the entire discography.

I'm talking about creativity. Not great guitar playing. You either do not not know Queen's back catalogue or don't recognise ground breaking music. Queen were totally original. I Want It All is totally derivative.

Nice sweeping generalization there. "You either like the color red or you don't recognize colors!"

...but your missing the point. I'm trying make a point about a band that was original and ground breaking that ended up turning out run of the mill rock songs. Can you tell me that I Want It All has any originalty? That's what I'm talking about. That is not say that I think they became a bad band, just not an original one. The truth is that they were a better live band than on record.

Queen is 100 times better than Def Leopard. No one can touch Freddie's voice....he was pure magic.... 8)

You Don't Fool Me one of Freddie's last songs he ever did with Queen. Not long after doing this Freddie passed away....vocals are incredible.

It could be argued that Queen learned to craft very good "run-og-the-mill" rock songs. The fact is they learned to craft commercial rock. IMO, for the band to survive, they needed to follow that direction more. Their previous work would not sell nor be as viable in the 80's. Sort of like Yes' 90125. It's not like this direction was new to Queen, look at "You're My Best Friend" or "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". Queen were always all over the map and that continued to a lesser degree in their later years. Innuendo is one of my favorite CDs. And the title track still shows a band that can construct a very creative, interesting song. Add the emotional connection on some of the other songs to Freddie's condition and it blows me away. Yet they still have a quirky song like "Delilah" on there too. As for "I Want It All", I think the hook of that chorus is monstrous. And the shout-out style of it was rather unique. You might think it is a derivative, pop, commercial sound but it took 20 years to make it into a commercial. I think it was a little ahead of it's time back then.

I love Queen. DL's okay too, but TO ME, they just don't have the imagination Queen does.
However- I have never liked I Want it All. It was a low point for me as far as Queen goes. I did like that album, just that song was lost on me. I think one of my favorite Queen albums is "The Works". It's not as imaginative as Opera or Races, but it's a good well rounded album.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
