Glad I can amuse you, kind sir! I'm still holding out hope, just not with the vigor I previously had. Not really a retreat.

Now you see why the board reacted the way it did when you posted that. This board has been drug through that same kind of thing many times, and it always leaves the place flat and disappointed. I sure hope it still happens though Splashman.

It's times like these when a little Perry fellowship is in order. Ordinarily, this is something we might have done in the "church" thread, but, sadly it was taken from us (prematurely I might add). Splashy, I wish I could offer you comfort in this dark hour, sadly I cannot.

Andrew, the People (read: Loons) need healing. Take a look at this wretched, huddled mass of broken hearted Loons, and see if you can find it in your heart to give them a home in the revived "Church" thread. It's the only humane thing to do. Please, give....

I think I even heard Perry's triumphant return was forstalled by the desicration of the "Church" thread...just sayin'

...okay, a little over the top, but still...

Well as far as I can recall this kind of talk has been happening for the past 10 years. People will hear a rumor about a Perry comeback, only find it was a "short" backup vocal, which you can barely hear at all, on some artist you never even heard of before. I had no idea who David Pack was until Perry's name was put along side that album, but I must say David Pack is really amazing as well, but I never heard of him before. Then there is more talks of a new Steve Perry album, only to find out it's actually a black guy! that goes by the same name...

Image

Oh it's so, NOT OKAY...

It's not going to happen, I know it's not good news but... that's life guys, sorry. I would bet money that Perry has actually recorded stuff, and probably a lot of it, but! weather he feels it's actually good enough to release... is another story, I honestly don't think he is ready to tarnish the great name just yet, just in case it doesn't meet our expectations. I am sure it will be excellent, because it's the voice who we are talking about, but it's not the same voice we all grew up listening to, same man, perhaps different "voice".

That's what is great about CD's and DVD's. We'll always have the Voice. If we want to spend the money we can shoot out to the next Frontiers show or Journey concert and get a pretty good copy of what he brought, but if we want the real thing, nothing wrong with throwing on the Houston DVD and cranking out Mother Father on the big screen. It's all good.

It's like we want to punish the guy for being smarter than most with his money and giving himself an early retirement. Steve is the Voice. Whether he sings again or not, nothing is going to change that.

Stephen had a pheonominal voice. His voice as I have always said, carries a presence that is strong, melodic, and beautiful. One that I find is and will always be my favorite. Will he do another album? Who knows? But has he given us some wonderful music? NO DOUBT!

I never understood bashing the man for not doing "anything". I am sure he has done plenty producing and other things. It is his life not ours, and he is well entitled to live it as he sees fit. He is not our puppet to control. I love the music he has made and if that is all we get then we have already been blessed a great deal.

I could listen to Melody over and over and left up to Sony we would have never heard it. Steve made it possible for me to hear it. Maybe someday he will share some more with us. I for one will be very happy to hear them. But I would always understand he also has the right to live his life in peace.

He owes us nothing, and has richly given us a beautiful body of work to listen to so far. Any more is icing on the cake.Image

With the exception of RF, I've liked all of Journey's singers. Also exclude a couple of the efforts on Generations maybe.

So I guess I'm a pinhead, soto jerk, wiggler, loon, and whatever they call Rolie fans. I dig them all.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Never fret, in another week, we'll be up to our ears in youtube links of DSB, SW, AWYWI and Faithfully. The thrill of the hunt will be finding stuff that isn't the same thing we've been hearing the last 25 years. WOM, The Party's Over, WCTNGOF, anything to shake up the joint.

On a serious note, when I saw them last year, AP was tired but still sounded great. This year though, even though I'm not a musician I can tell some of the songs are off because of the down tuning. I can handle that with Perry, Gramm, George Michaels, etc because they have given us years of the original performance done properly. But when you get a new car, you don't expect to be told that it can't go over 55 MPH after the first 100k miles. I just don't care for that. It's like a defective product right out of the factory.

I'm sure people are fine with all this but don't tell me this is the beginning of a new legacy when the singer can't even sing songs written only two years ago in the regular key. You might as well record them a step down to begin with if you're going to go that route one year later.

I know what you're saying and I agree with the tuning down. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see them last year, so I would like to this year if only for the new arrangements, which I think are great. However, I don't think its Arnel that wants it tuned down, but Jon and Neal protecting their investment. As far as I'm concerned they should at least do the new music in the proper key, its not like they were in that Perry range in the first place.
