+1...that is assuming Journey ever gets in.

Much as I love me some S**P, I just don't think he has produced a body of work, as a solo artist, that would/could put him in the HoF...now if there were to be some new music...well

I don't see Perry or Journey fitting the criteria of influential. Yes, they did popularize the power ballad but Keep On Loving You was the first bona fide one to hit number one on the charts so Reo Speedwagon can claim that they originated that idea also.

Winger has sold more more albums than Perry has, so his solo work, while on par with anything Journey has released without him isn't anything to write home about.
Modern Journey has tape gate and while most fans are not aware of it, Rolling Stone is and that's all that matters.

Journey hasn't made any relevant Top 10 list of acts snubbed by the HOF, so that has to say something also.
Groups that formed their own genres like Rush and the Moody Blues or Women artists that were pioneers for fronting hard rock bands like Heart and Pat Benatar haven't got a sniff either and in my opinion seem a little more deserving than Journey at the moment.

Another thing Journey is lacking is that one magnificent album, something like Dark Side Of The Moon, Hysteria, Slippery When Wet or Back in Black. Journey's Greatest Hits is their only album to achieve Diamond status, which speaks volumes about them having one of the most casual fan bases out there.
Escape is probably the closest they have come to having their own Hotel California.

I couldn't agree more. It's all politics. It seems like they're inducting people based on ethnicity, instead of achievement.

I don't care if an artist is from Texas or Bangladesh, if they have influenced rock and roll the most, they should get in.

Journey had a significant impact back in their heyday. They practically reinvented the live show experience, and so many other bands of the day were trying to emulate them.

They've made quite a wake in the last couple of years also, with DSB on the Sopranos and the overall popularity of just that one song. Couple that with the Arnel/YouTube story. If they don't get in soon, I think their chances get slimmer as this tide of popularity subsides.

She was a great singer, but how in the hell was she a rock pioneer? Your confusing the difference between innovation, and influence. I've heard many female singers list her as a big influence but no one that has ever called her innovative. Since she's in Celine Dion sure as hell better get in. Just as influential and sings miles more than Dusty ever did.

Innovation is one of the big bullshit catagories that the hall stands behind, when it's convienant for them to do so. I like AC/DC but they didn't do anything that hadn't been done before. Meanwhile a genre of progressive bands aren't in. Pink Floyd is the closest thing, but Rush, Yes etc.. invented a whole different style of music and they're ignored.

The hall is an inconsistant joke. If they want to call it the Music Hall of Fame, that would be better, but Grandmaster Flash isn't rock and roll and had no influnce on the evolution of rock and roll.

But you don't know as much about Dusty as you think you do. She was a rock pioneer, for her time. I'm talking her early stuff, the early Phil Spector stuff. Do you disagree that the Ronettes, the Supremes, Martha and the Vandella, and the other Wall of Sound singers belong in what you would consider a true HOF? Dusty was just as much their contemporary...but she was white. She pulled off the rock and soul sound like no other white female singer did at the time. True, the material wasn't necessarily written by her...but how many songs did Elvis actually write? Name me one song that Sinatra wrote. And that's not a knock on those two gentlemen, I hold those two singers up at the pinnacle.

Don't be so dismissive of Grandmaster Flash. While I'm inclined to agree the Hall of Fame should change it's name, some of the rest of your statement leaves me scratching my head. To think that GMF, and by extension rap music, has had no influence on the evolution of rock and roll is naive. Rock and Roll does not now, nor has it ever existed in a vacuum.

I love Perry, but how does he get in solo over someone like Sammy Hagar? Sammy's been in two big bands, (Montrose/VH), sold tons of solo records, and has never stopped to this day. Now he's in another potentially big band, and it touring the world.

If Perry had gone on a solo tear after his last round with Journey, and really toured and recorded a lot, I could see it. But if he gets in the HOF, it needs to be with Journey.

Agreed. Also, as someone else stated, the RARHOF is a joke. It'd be great to see as a tourist attraction, but as a measuring stick of who did what... not so much.

Pretty much the same chance as Journey being inducted in the first place.

Styx, Foreigner and Reo Speedwagon were the early Pioneers of arena rock. From 1977 to 1981, Styx released four consecutive Multi-Platinum albums:The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone, and Paradise Theatre. They might not have finished up with the big numbers but they were definitely leading the charge in the beginning of the melodic rock era. Hi infidelity was the Top selling rock album of 1981, so Reo can lay claims to jump starting this particular genre of music also, especially the power ballad arena with KOLY. Not to mention, Foreigner's debut album in 1977 stayed in the Top 20 for a year, with two Top 10 hits..
I like Journey but these other groups have just as much argument to be inducted themselves, if it's about being influential or innovative. And none of them have two monster releases like Def Leppard has (Pyromania and Hysteria are both Diamond certified by the RIAA).

Precisely. And that would just cast gloom and disappointment over the whole thing anyway, so I kind of don't even care. I know that *I* enjoy this band's music, and that's all I need. I don't really give a flying frig what the RRHOF thinks. They can induct them or not and it won't change what is played on MY iPod.

I think they've been eligible for a while. Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora just got inducted and they've only been around as a group since 83.
