Pre-concert routine

Postby JRNYFan » Thu Jul 16, 2009 3:09 am

With the the US tour starting, I thought it would be interesting to hear if any of you have a "pre-concert routine"

For example, do you like to listen to the music a whole lot days before the show or do you stop listening in order to have that "fresh" feel?

Do you like to know exactly what the setlist will be or do you try to be surprised when you go?

I've seen some ladies get really dolled up for a show. Do you think of a concert like a like a big, almost formal event, or would you rather be more comfortable and wear pjs? :)

In the past I've listened a lot to the music beforehand and knew exactly what the setlist would be, but I think I'll change that this year. It will be interesting to try to avoid seeing reviews in the early stages.

I have stopped listening to Journey music since about a month ago; except checking on the tour. I want it to be fresh. I'm listening to alternative rock and R&B to totally make Journey's music stand out from anything I've been listening to.

concert attire? lol

I mainline heroin for two days before a show, then smoke crack the day of the show.

Then it's back to business as usual.

To me, it's a concert, not a black tie gala. Jeans and t-shirt. Last show I ended up wearing two t-shirts. I put one of the shirts T-time made over whatever I was wearing and ended up roasting. I'd go in PJs, why not. I'd be sleeping during the new material anyway.

Make sure to go #2 before I leave the house the bathrooms at venues are a horror show.

I normally drive to Charlotte NC for concerts, and I ALWAYS jam out for the hour and 20 minute ride to whatever band I'm going to see. I try to get there several hours before, check into a hotel, and get my drink on! :D

I don't dress up, and usually just were something comfortable like jeans and a t-shirt. That way if I have to deal with cab drivers (you know what I'm talking about Dan!)...I'm ready.  I normally don't drink too much at the venues because it's so expensive, and I wait until after the show to get shit-canned. Last concert I went to, Dan left our hotel room after 3:00!  We had a blast though.

As far as the set-list goes...I personally like to be surprised. I like a band to pull out at least a couple of songs I hadn't heard in a while. I would have LOVED for Journey (with Augeri anyway) to bust out some deep cuts like "La Raza Del Sol", "Saturday Night", or something similar. I've seen them 6 times, and it's pretty much the dirty dozen every time they come here. The last gig, they did play a few off of Revelation which I really enjoyed, but I just didn't feel that same magic with Arnel...

I really like him as a singer, but for some reason I just don't feel excited about them anymore. :( As much as I've tried, I just feel less and less interested over time. Oh well, maybe the next album will really grab me.
